“How can we save it? Unless it suddenly rains heavily, but there isn’t a single cloud in the sky,” Meng Ruliu looked up at the gray sky. “Huh, what’s that?”
She saw a huge black shadow descend from above them, followed by a gust of wind that blew away all the flames that were approaching them.
“It’s a giant eagle,” Meng Ruliu exclaimed in surprise. “It’s come to save us.”
There were no people on the back of the giant eagle that descended from the sky. It landed on the ground, grabbed two people with each claw, lifted them into the air, and flew away into the distance.
Only after leaving the scorching heat did Meng Ruliu breathe a sigh of relief and ask Su Wan, "Did you summon it?"
Su Wan shook her head and said, "I returned the whistle to the Holy Land when I left Southern Chu, so I can't control it. But I know that the Divine Physician Family will definitely not let me die."
Looking down from the air, the two saw that the entire Tongchan Temple was engulfed in flames, with fires reaching over ten meters high. Outside the temple, a group of several hundred people, including soldiers and government officials, surrounded it and were throwing various oil-filled containers into the fire to intensify the flames.
Many people below had already spotted the giant eagle in the sky and were pointing and shouting. Some people shot arrows, but the eagle was flying so high that the arrows all fell to the ground midway due to exhaustion.
Meng Ruliu saw that in the most crowded place, three people were huddled together, pointing at the giant eagle and shouting. She said to Su Wan, "The bald guy in the middle is probably Jia Tuo. He's the one who shouts the loudest."
Su Wan looked at them and said, "It seems so. One of them is dressed as a civil official, and the other as a military general. It's a pity I don't have a whistle, and the giant eagles don't listen to me, otherwise we would have gone down and given them a good lesson."
Meng Ruliu said, "It's good enough that we escaped this disaster. We can deal with them anytime."
The giant eagle carried the two away, which Jia Tuo below saw clearly. He was so angry that his head was practically steaming. He said to Magistrate Du and Chief Steward Yan, "We're doomed now. The two of them escaped, and we're all going to be executed."
Magistrate Du said, "I had planned everything, but I never expected an eagle to fly over here."
Yan Bazong's legs were trembling. He said to Jia Tuo, "I have never seen such a big eagle before. Everyone says that the Empress is a goddess. She is indeed blessed by the gods."
The three were in a panic when a young man suddenly appeared out of nowhere and stood in front of Jia Tuo, saying, "You three set the fire, didn't you?"
The guard said, "Where are the soldiers? How can you let people in like this?"
He looked behind the young man and saw that the soldiers on guard were all lying on the ground, their lives unknown. Enraged, he said to the young man, "Who are you? How dare you harm soldiers?"
“Jiang Li, those who protect the goddess,” the young man said, “you attempted to burn the goddess alive, committing a heinous crime. According to the Creator’s command, anyone who poses a threat to the goddess must be killed without exception.”
Yan Ba was a military officer, and his reactions were swift. He sensed the murderous intent in Jiang Li's words and immediately drew his sword from his waist, aiming to strike at the other man. The young man raised his palm, and the steel sword struck the edge of his hand with a clang, actually being blocked by his palm.
Yan Bazong couldn't believe his eyes, wondering if he had picked up an unsharpened knife.
While he was still in a daze, Jiang Li punched him in the chest, knocking him down and denting his entire chest.
Jia Tuo and Magistrate Du, who were standing nearby, were terrified and were about to run away when two more young men came over and punched them one by one, killing Jia Tuo and Magistrate Du as well.
Jiang Li said to the other two, "Leave no one alive who participated in arson." The two nodded to indicate that they understood, and charged at the constables and soldiers from the left and right.
Jiang Li wiped the sweat from her forehead and said in a low voice, "Thank goodness, it almost turned out to be a disaster."
Before the words were even finished, a girl's giggling voice rang out from behind, "So chatting with me was a big mistake after all."
Jiang Li turned around and saw a bright and pure girl in white standing in front of her. She quickly said, "Xiao Yi, you misunderstood. No, no, I misspoke. It's all my fault. I lost track of time talking to you."
The girl in white glanced at the flames leaping up in Tongchan Temple and smiled, "It's good that you know. You haven't done what you promised me yet."
Jiang Li said with difficulty, "Xiao Yi, you know. No one can enter the Creator's room. She will never let anyone in."
"Don't lie to me, you came out from inside, how could you not be able to get in?"
"I really don't know."
The girl in white revealed a cute yet fierce expression and said, "I don't care, you have to help me. Don't you like me? Then find a way to let me see the Creator, otherwise I'll never talk to you again. I'll go find Mr. Jiang; he won't have so many excuses like you."
After saying that, she snorted and turned to leave.
Jiang Li was shocked and quickly caught up with the girl in white, saying, "Xiao Yi, don't be angry. I'll think of a way, I'll think of a way, please don't ignore me."
The girl in white ignored him and walked faster and faster. Jiang Li followed closely behind, and the two walked down the mountain together.
