Chapter 312 Construction Noise

Jiang Wenpei thought this made sense and said, "So it was Emperor Jin who forced Your Majesty. I was unaware of this matter. I will go and reason with Emperor Jin again."

He hurriedly left the capital and took a carriage back to Jinhua Mountain to find Jiang Yan.

Jiang Yan said, "So it was the Jin Emperor who threatened you. No wonder. When you go to see the Jin Emperor this time, you can make your words sound more serious."

Jiang Wenpei came down the mountain to find Wei Jingzhuo. After meeting him, he questioned him: "Your Majesty, I went to see the Emperor of Southern Chu. He said that you threatened him that if you were not allowed to come to Jinhua Mountain, you would demolish the city wall of Yanxun Pass."

Wei Jingzhuo said, "Sir, you must have been deceived by the King of Southern Chu. I am the Emperor of Great Jin, how could I do such a thing? I hope you will investigate thoroughly."

Jiang Wenpei said, "If what His Majesty says is true, then who among you actually suggested coming to Jinhua Mountain?"

Wei Jingzhuo said, "Actually, this matter is not important. I only need to quarry some stones to build the Star Gazing Platform. Why do you care, sir?"

Jiang Wenpei said, "But Jinhua Mountain is the sacred ground of a family of divine physicians, and no one can enter at will. Even though Your Majesty is the ruler of the Great Jin Kingdom, you must abide by our rules."

Wei Jingzhuo said, "That's easy. Someone come here."

General Meng Ruliu entered the camp.

Wei Jingzhuo said, "Mr. Jiang said that sacred places should not be entered without permission. I wonder which places are off-limits?"

Meng Ruliu said, "Your Majesty, I have already inquired and found out that the untouchable areas of the Holy Land start from the steps at the foot of the mountain. Without the permission of the Divine Physician Family, no one may arbitrarily step onto the steps, and the same applies to the entire Holy Land residence."

Wei Jingzhuo looked at Jiang Wenpei: "Sir, is what the General said correct?"

Jiang Wenpei said, "Yes. The Holy Land has existed since..."

Wei Jingzhuo waved his hand to interrupt him and said to Meng Ruliu, "Issue my decree: all workers are forbidden from stepping onto the steps of the Holy Land or entering the Holy Land residence. Anyone who disobeys will be executed. Let everyone get to work."

Jiang Wenpei was overjoyed, thanked Wei Jingzhuo, and happily returned to the holy land, where he told Jiang Yan about Wei Jingzhuo's promise. Jiang Yan said, "That's wonderful."

But when night fell, both of them started complaining.

The mountain was brightly lit, and the sounds of chisels breaking stone filled the air, keeping everyone in the sacred site awake. Jiang Wenpei got up to confront the workers and discovered that they hadn't actually touched the steps. The mountain was teeming with people, all diligently digging into it. When someone got tired, someone would take their place; it was a non-stop operation.

He looked around and then went to discuss it with Jiang Yan.

Jiang Yan didn't take it seriously, saying, "Do you think they can hollow out the mountain? Just be patient for a few days, and they'll leave once they've dug up enough stone."

As the night passed, all the craftsmen working in the sacred site came to Jiang Wenpei to resign. These craftsmen were all from Southern Chu, hired by the sacred site specifically to repair the houses destroyed by the alien demons.

“Mr. Jiang, we’re happy to help the Holy Land repair the houses without paying for them. But with all this noise outside, we can’t sleep at all.”

Jiang Wenpei kindly persuaded everyone to exchange the gold given by Wei Jingzhuo for silver and distribute it to them, which temporarily calmed people's hearts.

After two days of chiseling, the craftsmen couldn't take it anymore and came to find Jiang Wenpei. One craftsman said, "Mr. Jiang, we really can't stand it anymore. Our ears are ringing all the time, and we haven't slept for three days straight. If this continues, we won't live to enjoy our money."

The craftsmen couldn't bear it any longer and bid farewell, leaving the sacred site one after another.

They dug for another three days, and Jinhua Mountain was filled with holes, looking like a honeycomb from a distance.

The candidate goddesses in the holy land came to Jiang Wenpei one by one, crying: "Mr. Jiang, look at our dark circles, please think of something."

Having no other choice, Jiang Wenpei went down the mountain again to find Wei Jingzhuo.

This time, Wei Jingzhuo didn't see him; Meng Ruliu received him instead. Jiang Wenpei said, "General, you craftsmen work three shifts a day, constantly chiseling and quarrying stone. It's so noisy! We can't rest at all. Could you work during the day and rest at night?"

Meng Ruliu said, "Sir, His Majesty is in a hurry to build the Star Gazing Platform and can't wait even a moment longer. I still think this is too slow."

Jiang Wenpei said, "But it's too noisy."

Meng Ruliu said, "Sir, you don't know, when my family lived in the capital, the renovations next door were just as noisy. We endured it for a week before it stopped. Chiseling stone is just like renovations; there will always be noise. Sir, please bear with us. We can finish quickly if we want. If it's really unbearable, we can just put cotton balls in our ears."

Jiang Wenpei agreed. He returned to the holy site and had everyone stuff cotton balls into their ears, but it didn't help much.

Two more days passed, and the people in the holy land could fall asleep while walking. Unable to bear it any longer, they surrounded Jiang Yan and Jiang Wenpei, demanding they resolve the situation.

Jiang Yan tried to persuade everyone that the stone quarry might be finished in a couple of days, but they refused. Jiang Yan had no choice but to tell everyone to go down the mountain and stay temporarily in the capital of Southern Chu.

As a result, only he and Jiang Wenpei remained in the entire holy site, hiding in the operating room.
