Chapter 313 The Ship Leaves, the People Remain

In November, Emerald Island is still as warm and humid as it is in the height of summer.

Early in the morning, Su Wan sat at the table and combed her hair in front of the mirror.

The clothes she wore when she arrived on the island were snatched away by seagulls when she changed and dried them; she was wearing modern clothes from her apartment closet.

She wore a simple white shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers. When she raised her hand, the sleeve of her shirt slipped down from her wrist, revealing thin, pale arms. Furthermore, her hair, lacking proper nutrition, had become dry and yellow, and conditioner hadn't helped.

She carefully tied her hair back, held up the mirror to look at herself, and looked for something to praise.

Her face was so pale it was almost transparent, even her lips were pale. To put it positively, it was a kind of morbid beauty.

Her cheeks were deep-set, making her eyes appear particularly large. To put it positively, she looked very energetic.

My waist has shrunk to 1.5 feet. Pants that used to be very tight now fall down without a belt. To put it positively, it's a very successful weight loss.

Seeing these pleasing changes, she put down the mirror and pumped her fist to cheer herself up.

"Keep going, there's still a vast ocean to cross before you see Ah Jin."

After leaving the cabin, I first chased away a few seagulls that were stealing fish and put the dried fish into the apartment. Then I walked up to the giant eagle that was dozing by the pond and said, "Grandpa Eagle, I'm setting off today. Wish me luck."

The giant eagle kept its eyes closed, seemingly not hearing her speak.

She didn't mind, humming a song as she walked down the hillside to the beach.

Flying Turtle was sunbathing on the beach with another turtle named Timid Mushroom. When Flying Turtle saw her coming, Timid Mushroom fled into the sea, while Flying Turtle clumsily crawled towards her.

Su Wan came to Fei Fei, squatted down and patted its shell: "I'm going back to find my lover, so I won't be taking you with me. Thank you for your company during this time. Live well with your other companions."

Feifei looked up at her, tears streaming down her face.

"Stop faking your tears," she said with a smile as she stood up. "You cry every day. I knew you were just trying to get rid of salt."

She came to the beach and looked at the raft floating in the water. The raft was tied to a wooden stake on the shore with a sturdy rope, and it kept bobbing up and down with the waves.

“Everything is ready,” she said, pointing westward. “Ready to go.”

The raft was originally on the beach, and it took her a lot of effort to get it into the sea.

After building the raft, she realized she had overlooked something. The rising tide alone wouldn't be enough to carry the raft off the beach. And the raft's weight was too much for her to move; even the principle of leverage wouldn't help.

She was also an intellectual, and she calculated the density and volume of the wood. She concluded that a single palm tree trunk weighed about seventy kilograms, and fifteen trunks would weigh over a ton, not including the mast and other accessories.

The final calculation showed that the entire raft weighed about one and a half tons, equivalent to a small car without wheels.

Even in her healthiest state, she couldn't push a car into the sea, let alone in her current sickly state.

This matter troubled her for a whole day, until she saw the sea turtle flying and suddenly had an inspiration.

The name Feifei comes from the story of this sea turtle who attacked a giant eagle and was thrown away by the eagle's claw. It took her a lot of effort to turn Feifei back into a normal position from belly up.

What she couldn't do, the giant eagle could do easily; it would be a waste not to take advantage of such a powerful resource.

Every day at noon, the giant eagle would catch fish for her to eat. Even though she could find all sorts of food on the beach herself and poke coconuts with a pole, the giant eagle would still complete the task meticulously. It must have been Bai Zhiyi who ordered it to do so.

Su Wan took advantage of this.

In the morning, she first removed the mast and awning, then used a shovel to dig a large hole under the bare raft. When the giant eagle returned from fishing at noon, she picked up the fish and stuffed it into the hole under the raft, deliberately leaving only the tail sticking out so the giant eagle could see it.

The giant eagle, unaware of human cunning, saw the fish hidden under the raft and swung its talons, sending the raft flying three or four meters away.

The next day, it was lifted three or four meters higher.

On the third day, after everything was agitated, the raft was less than two meters from the sea.

On the fourth day, Su Wan tied the raft to the stakes on the shore with sturdy ropes beforehand, and dug holes to hide fish, just like last time. This time, the giant eagle directly overturned the raft into the sea, and the raft successfully floated.

She waded into the water, climbed onto the raft, attached the mast and canopy, and practiced rowing again until she was done.

Today is the day she sets sail.

She had absolutely no experience sailing, and venturing out on a raft into the unpredictable sea was fraught with danger. It was an extremely risky undertaking. But in her mind, even the risk was better than waiting to die on the island. It was already November; if she fell into the sea and drowned, it would only be a few days sooner.

If doing this allows her to see her lover before she dies, then it's worth it.

Now, I'll leave everything to fate.

She jumped onto the raft, put on a sun hat, and at the next high tide, used a fruit knife to cut the ropes tied to the raft.

The receding tide carried the raft out to sea, and it drifted more than ten meters away in an instant.

She wasn't nervous. She glanced at the island receding into the distance behind her, turned back, steered the mast, and adjusted the sail. The sea breeze immediately billowed the plastic sail. The raft began to accelerate, and the island grew farther and farther away, seemingly about two miles away.

"God bless me so that I can see Ah Jin," she knelt on the raft, clasped her hands together in front of her chest, and closed her eyes in prayer, "Please grant me this small wish and let me die in his arms."
