Wei Jingzhuo, with his hair disheveled and eyes bloodshot, clenched his fists and pounded hard on the glass wall. He then picked up an empty metal chair and tried to smash it, but the glass wall didn't budge.
Seeing that it wasn't working, Bai Zhiyi plunged the dagger into the control panel again, slicing it horizontally to create a cross-shaped crack. Then, she bit the dagger, grabbed a corner of the cracked metal plate with both hands, and lifted it upwards, her face turning red. She managed to lift it up a little, at least revealing the intricate cables underneath.
"Quick, Ah Wan is dying!" Wei Jingzhuo gasped for breath, dropping the deformed chair. "Miss Bai, I beg you."
Bai Zhiyi gritted her teeth, gripped the dagger, and slashed it horizontally across the cables. A flash of electricity erupted, and she screamed, collapsing to her knees, dropping the dagger. A patch of her left sleeve was blackened by the electric shock.
The control panel crackled and sparked, sending sparks flying onto the floor. A hissing sound emanated from inside, yet the numbers on the screen continued to jump, as if they had nothing to do with the device, continuing their countdown.
"Your Majesty, I'll try again." Bai Zhiyi struggled to her feet and gripped the dagger in her hand once more.
The number then jumped to zero and stopped.
Wei Jingzhuo bent his knees and slowly knelt down against the glass wall, letting out a roar to the sky.
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty," Bai Zhiyi knelt down in front of the glass wall, facing Wei Jingzhuo, "Look at me, I still have a way."
Wei Jingzhuo looked up at her and said, "It's gone, there's nothing left."
Bai Zhiyi gazed deeply into his eyes, two streams of tears falling like broken beads from her face: "Your Majesty, may I call you Xiao Yi?"
Wei Jingzhuo said blankly, "If I can save Awan, I will call you that for the rest of my life."
Bai Zhiyi smiled, got up and rushed to the control panel, pulled the overloaded red lever to the opposite position, glanced back at the grief-stricken Wei Jingzhuo, raised her short knife and plunged it into her heart, then pulled it out.
Wei Jingzhuo was stunned, and exclaimed, "Xiao Yi!"
Bai Zhiyi's body was half-stained with blood. She slid weakly along the control panel until she sat down on the ground with her back against it.
Her eyes were closed, her face showing no pain, but rather a hint of satisfaction and happiness. Then her head drooped to her chest, and a large pool of blood slowly spread beneath her body.
Something unbelievable happened to Wei Jingzhuo.
The glaring zero on the screen began to increase rapidly, reaching over a million in the blink of an eye, before stopping.
Then, an even larger burst of sparks erupted from the control panel, accompanied by a loud explosion. Blinding fireballs shot out like a volcanic eruption, striking various objects and setting the room ablaze. However, the glass walls blocked all the flames and smoke, leaving Wei Jingzhuo completely unaffected.
The soft white light in the room was replaced by flashing red lights, and a shrill alarm sounded at the same time.
Wei Jingzhuo rushed back to Su Wan and took her hand to check her pulse.
Su Wan's pulse actually started beating again.
He suppressed his inner elation and called out softly, "Ah Wan, Ah Wan?"
"Is that A-Jin?" Su Wan's lips parted, a hint of doubt in her voice. "What's wrong with me? I think I fell asleep... Wait, I suddenly have energy?"
On her deathbed, she had lost the strength to even move her fingers. Now, she felt life returning to her body. Although still very weak, she felt she could walk.
She raised her hand in surprise and lifted her helmet, first looking at Wei Jingzhuo, whose face was streaked with tears, then at the opposite side, which was now filled with flames and thick smoke. Through the gaps in the smoke and firelight, she saw Bai Zhiyi leaning against the control panel.
“It was Xiao Yi,” Wei Jingzhuo said. “She stabbed Zhang Ying and destroyed that thing.”
"How did Bai Zhiyi get inside?"
Given Zhang Ying's personality, there's no way she would let anyone into such a crucial place.
“She came out of that hibernation pod,” Wei Jingzhuo said excitedly, hugging her tightly. “The number had already reached zero. She pulled down the red lever and then committed suicide. I don’t know what happened, but the number suddenly increased a lot.”
Seeing the numbers on the life factor display screen that were faintly visible in the thick smoke, Su Wan immediately understood that Bai Zhiyi had returned the last life factor to her.
She had told Zhang Ying that she wanted Bai Zhiyi's clone to retain her memories. However, to retain these memories, it was necessary to preserve a portion of Su Wan's life essence. This portion of life essence was the source of Bai Zhiyi's ability to remember everything from the past.
While Zhang Ying was away, Bai Zhiyi hid in the hibernation pod and must have overheard Zhang Ying's conversation about how to operate the overload system. When she pulled the red lever, the life factor extraction device began to run in reverse.
After Bai Zhiyi committed suicide, all the life factors in her body were released, collected by the life factor extraction device, and then returned to her body through her helmet, pulling her back from the clutches of death.
Now that the life factor extraction device has been consumed by flames, it certainly won't be able to extract her life factors anymore.
This means she won't die.
Ecstasy overwhelmed her instantly, but she immediately remembered something.
Chu Ming, who was in a dormant state in the room engulfed in flames, was obviously doomed. Zhang Ying, upon discovering all this, would likely descend into utter madness and commit unimaginable and terrifying acts. The most important thing was to escape from here with Wei Jingzhuo as quickly as possible; happiness could wait.
She stood up and took Wei Jingzhuo's hand: "Ajin, let's get out of here quickly."
