Chapter 35 Crops

Actually, this book is full of popular science knowledge, but for Wei Jingzhuo, it was the first time he had ever heard of such a wide variety of crops.

As Su Wan read out the words, he couldn't help but be shaken.

Are there really so many different kinds of crops in the world?

Suppressing his doubts, he carefully recorded the contents of Su Wan's book.

Half an hour later, Su Wannian's mouth was dry. "I can't take it anymore, I need to rest for a while."

She put down her book, picked up the kettle, poured herself a glass of water, and took a big gulp.

Wei Jingzhuo put down his pen, his gentle gaze filled with expectation, "Awan, do you know where to find these things?"

These things were all cultivated by later agronomists through grafting.

Of course, most of the improvement is achieved through technology, but fortunately, she had some vegetables and grains available for immediate use in her apartment.

Other crops are not so easy to find.

“I do have some of the crops mentioned in the book, but there are also many that I don’t have here.” She subconsciously looked around the apartment.

The vegetables included green peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions. There were also some grains such as corn, carrots, and rice. As for fruits, there were quite a few, including grapes, bananas, apples, pears, watermelons, strawberries, and so on.

She picked out one or two and told him, "These vegetables and fruits here are meant for eating, not for growing. If you want someone to take them and grow them, that's fine too."

After thinking it over, I decided it would be better to save the seeds so that we can have vegetables and fruits to eat next year.

Many of the vegetables and fruits available in ancient times were inedible.

She remembered that when her father was alive, he would get her a watermelon to eat, but it didn't taste very good; the flesh was white.

It tasted a bit astringent and didn't look very appealing.

Because Youzhou is located in the northwest, the original owner had the good fortune to see watermelons since childhood.

This isn't called a watermelon yet, and most people don't really like it, mainly because it doesn't taste very good.

With that in mind, she took a watermelon out of the refrigerator in her apartment.

Looking at the large, round, green watermelon in front of him, Wei Jingzhuo asked, "Is this a cucumber?"

Hearing him say that, she then remembered that this thing mainly grows in the west, so when the Great Jin Dynasty saw something from that side, all the names were related to Hu.

She nodded. "Pretty much, but this tastes much better than that cucumber. Let me cut some for you to try."

After saying that, she took out a fruit knife and a plate from the apartment, and with a few snips, cut it open.

She handed him a seed and said, "Here, have a taste. Remember to spit the seed out and don't throw it away."

She's counting on these seeds to grow a new crop of watermelons.

Although she doesn't know how to grow them, she can find someone to do it for her.

Wei Jingzhuo took it, took a bite, and looked at the watermelon in his hand with surprise.

It tasted better than any fruit he had ever tasted in the palace.

Neither of them spoke, they ate in silence, carefully placing the sunflower seeds away.

After they finished eating, the two tidied up the table, and then Wei Jingzhuo said, "I plan to go to the General's Mansion in the Northwest the day after tomorrow. Would you like to come with me?"

Although he asked a question, his gaze never left Su Wan.

Su Wan naturally wanted to go out and see what it was like outside. She had been here for so long, but hadn't yet gone out to see what the outside world was like.

Besides, she was a little scared to be left here alone.

If those who are hunting her down find her, she can't handle so many people by herself.

Su Wan certainly wouldn't miss such an opportunity.

“Of course I want to go to Youzhou,” she asked. “What do I need to prepare?”

Wei Jingzhuo said gently, "There's no need to bring anything, but we'll still need Awan's help when we get there."

My maternal grandfather was seriously wounded on the battlefield in his early years. Now, those old wounds are still causing him illness. In addition, he is old and has been bedridden ever since he heard the news of his demotion.

If this continues, the outcome will likely be disastrous.

No one knew Su Wan's medical skills better than him.

As Su Wan packed her things, she asked, "What kind of help? Let me make this clear, I'm not doing anything like murder or arson."

Wei Jingzhuo looked at her and said seriously, "I want you to take a look at my maternal grandfather's health."

"So it's just something trivial," she waved her hand dismissively. "Do you know what illness your grandfather has?"

If she knew about his condition, she would have a better understanding of the situation.

He said casually, "It's just a recurrence of an old injury from my childhood."

Su Wan nodded. The old injuries were nothing more than some internal injuries that had not fully healed.

This isn't too difficult.

She readily agreed, "Okay, we can change Brother Lu's dressing tomorrow and set off together the day after."

When Su Wan mentioned Lu Lin, his expression turned somewhat cold.

When Su Wan saw that he hadn't spoken for a while, she was about to ask him something when Lu Lin and Lu Zhao arrived.

As soon as Lu Zhao entered the courtyard, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Sister A-Wan, I'm here!"

Upon hearing Lu Zhao's voice, Su Wan quickly got up and went outside.

She was carrying two chickens, while Lu Lin was carrying a wild boar on his shoulder.

“Sister A-Wan,” Lu Zhao said, bringing the two chickens to her. “My brother and I caught these on the mountain. We’ll cook them and eat them later.”

"Isn't this too much?" she asked instead of taking it. "You're not going to give all of this to me, are you?"

Lu Zhao laughed loudly, "Of course it's for Sister A-Wan! You healed my brother's injuries, and now he's almost fully recovered. He wanted to stretch his muscles and went hunting in the mountains."

The main reason was that Sister Awan was treating her brother's illness. They offered her money, but she refused. So, her brother decided to go up the mountain to deliver some things to Sister Awan's family.

Lu Zhao put the pheasant down and then went to the kitchen. "Sister A-Wan, I'm coming to your house for a big meal today."

After putting the wild boar down, Lu Lin clasped his hands in a salute to Wei Jingzhuo and said, "Thank you for saving me, you two. If you ever need anything from me in the future, please don't hesitate to ask. As long as it's within my power, I, Lu Lin, will do my best to help."

Wei Jingzhuo stood before him with his hands behind his back, his expression distant and indifferent. "It's alright."

Seeing that he didn't want to say more, Lu Lin thought for a moment and still reminded Wei Jingzhuo: "Young master, I went to the city before I was injured. Now the streets and alleys of the city are full of arrest warrants for a couple, saying that they are serious criminals of the imperial court."

The man on the wanted poster was quite handsome, and all the young women watching blushed.

The woman on the wanted poster was extremely ugly, making it hard for anyone to believe that the two were husband and wife.

Wei Jingzhuo remained silent after hearing this, as it was something he had expected.
