Chapter 36 Not Too Stupid

Wei Jingzhuo now wears a mask every day, and his appearance has been greatly altered by Su Wan's makeup.

When Lu Lin saw Wei Jingzhuo, he didn't connect the people on the wanted posters with him. Instead, he reminded him that it was best not to go out unless necessary, to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Wei Jingzhuo nodded and replied calmly, "Thank you."

Lu Lin scratched his head. "No need to thank me. I just happened to run into those soldiers arresting people. I heard that many unfamiliar young people have been arrested by the government. If you don't have anything important to do, you'd better not wander around outside."

I don't know what crime those two young people committed that made the authorities arrest people everywhere.

Arresting people is one thing, but those arrested are all innocent people, and some unfortunate ones have even been beheaded.

The officials who made the mistake refused to admit it, and those living people were beheaded with just a word from those officials.

There is truly no place to reason with them, and now the people are filled with resentment.

Wei Jingzhuo's calm eyes held a hint of coldness, and his voice was indifferent, "If you can leave here, you'd better make plans as soon as possible."

He believed Lu Lin understood what he was saying.

Lu Lin was well aware that the border was far from peaceful. He had originally planned to join the Northwest Army, but he unexpectedly ran into his former employers. Those men had actually given up their mountain banditry and joined the army.

He found the matter very strange, so he secretly followed them and discovered that the bandits had already colluded with the Western Rong people.

He had no choice but to become a bandit in the mountains in the past. However, after killing the steward of a wealthy family in Youzhou a few years ago and being wanted by the authorities, he had no choice but to hide with his mother and younger sister in Linyuan Village, which is the closest village to Xirong.

Later, in order to make a living, he had no choice but to become a bandit in the mountains. However, he was still the leader of the stronghold. He was a man with a conscience and never committed murder or robbery, let alone associated with the Western Rong people.

Since the death of the eldest brother, the stronghold has been taken over by the ambitious second-in-command.

To his surprise, the second-in-command was not only bold but also ambitious, actually dreaming of becoming a local tyrant.

The Western Rong people promised them that once the matter was accomplished, they would be rewarded here and become kings of a different surname in this region.

After learning about their schemes, he planned to go to the Northwest Camp to report them, but he was discovered by them and almost killed by the Western Rong people.

If it weren't for his good fortune in being carried back by his younger sister and having Su Wan treat his injuries, he would probably be reporting to the King of Hell by now.

He glanced at Wei Jingzhuo again and saw that he still looked calm and composed, and the aura of a superior he exuded made people have no choice but to submit to him.

After hesitating for a moment, Lu Lin decided to tell Wei Jingzhuo everything he knew.

Upon hearing this, Wei Jingzhuo's gaze toward the west grew even colder. He stroked the long sword at his waist with one slender hand and said coldly, "Agree to their terms."

Lu Lin asked, puzzled, "Why...why?"

Wei Jingzhuo glanced at him and said indifferently, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

Lu Lin's eyes darted around, and he finally understood. He slapped his forehead hard and shouted, "You mean, you want me to be a spy?"

The voice was so loud that even Su Wan and Lu Zhao in the kitchen could hear it.

The two looked over at the same time, and Xiao Zhao gave Su Wan a thumbs up: "Sister Wan, your husband is really amazing. He made my brother do things willingly with just a few words."

You should know that her brother is notoriously stubborn; once he's made up his mind, nothing can change it.

Since Sister A-Wan's husband is so capable, can she also join the army like her brother?

Her mind suddenly became active.

“Actually, I can do this too,” she nudged Su Wan’s arm and said with a fawning smile, “Why don’t you go and talk to your husband and ask me to do this job?”

After cutting the two pheasants into pieces, Su Wan stir-fried them in the oil for a while, then took out two plates and served them. "No, those people know your older brother, and they might not believe you if you go."

Moreover, what Lu Lin was doing was extremely dangerous. Although she didn't think Lu Zhao was any worse than Lu Lin, there were some things that were much easier for men to do than for women.

Xiao Zhao pinched two pieces of chicken with her hands and put them in her mouth. As she ate, she said, "How do you know I can't do it if I don't try? Maybe I can do it better than my older brother!"

Seeing her determination to join the army, Su Wan stopped trying to dissuade her and instead said, "If there's a chance, I'll try to talk to her on your behalf..."

"Really?" Lu Zhao immediately stood up and excitedly grabbed Su Wan's arm, saying, "I knew Sister Wan would help me. As long as Sister Wan said so, your husband would definitely agree."

Su Wan: "..."

How could she not know that her words would be so effective?

How could Wei Jingzhuo possibly listen to her?

Lu Zhao ignored all of that and said earnestly, "Sister A-Wan's words will definitely work. Don't be fooled by your husband's coldness and aloofness. I've noticed that he only talks to Sister A-Wan."

She remembered that the last time she came to see Su Wan, she ran into Sister Wan's husband. The man looked at her with an extremely cold gaze, so cold that it made her feel the bone-chilling cold from afar, making her afraid to even breathe. In short, whenever she saw him, she wanted to turn around and run away.

But only when Sister A-Wan was around did his eyes show any warmth.

Su Wan sighed and rubbed her forehead in exasperation. "I'm her wife. We can't just stand there in silence, can we?"

Even after spending a lot of time together, the two will still exchange a few words.
