Wei Jingzhuo pulled Su Wan to his side and whispered to her, "If A-Wan is not happy, I will have someone send her away right now."
Although keeping Bai Zhiyi would be helpful for finding clues about the family of divine doctors, if Su Wan didn't like her, he could send that woman away immediately.
"No need," Su Wan slowly withdrew her hand from his and stood up. "You should rest first. I'll go get you something to eat. Also, keep an eye on the IV drip yourself, and remember to remove the needle when it's finished."
She took two steps toward the door, then turned back to remind him.
"When the needle is removed, there will be a little blood at the injection site. I've put the cotton balls for stopping the bleeding on the table, so you can easily reach them. Don't forget to dispose of the waste."
After saying that, she lifted the tent flap and left the camp.
Although Wei Jingzhuo said she could send Bai Zhiyi away at any time, she still didn't want to do it. If she agreed, it would seem as if she couldn't tolerate this woman and was forcing her to leave.
Men should take the initiative in these matters, rather than waiting for women to ask.
However, since Wei Jingzhuo decided to keep Bai Zhiyi, it meant he genuinely needed her for something. She didn't intend to press him for details; only a jealous person would dwell on such matters. She considered herself a carefree woman.
Lin Qingfeng was overjoyed to see her come out and quickly went up to ask about Wei Jingzhuo's injuries.
Su Wan explained the general situation to Lin Qingfeng, including the fact that Wei Jingzhuo had woken up, and instructed him not to let anyone disturb Wei Jingzhuo during this period.
When Lin Qingfeng heard that his master had woken up, a smile finally appeared on his face.
He had followed his master for many years and knew his master's character well. For his master to gain a foothold in the army, he had to lead by example in everything he did to inspire the soldiers. This operation was his master's attempt to disrupt the Western Rong's offensive rhythm; he had led a commando team of several thousand men to attack one of their camps, and that's how he ended up being hit by this arrow.
Because they were attacking the heartland of the Western Rong army, they happened to run into the retreating Western Rong army and almost collided head-on with them.
To cover their retreat, their master was unfortunately struck in the chest by an arrow from the enemy leader. Fortunately, the armor embedded the arrowhead, preventing it from penetrating further. However, blood gushed out, staining the clothes beneath the armor red, which terrified everyone.
It was a truly fierce battle; our side lost over a hundred men before finally escaping the enemy's pursuit.
With this surprise attack, the Western Rong will surely leave a portion of their troops stationed there specifically to guard against further attacks. As a result, due to the redeployment of their forces, the Western Rong will not attack the Great Jin for at least the time being.
Moreover, the biggest gain this time was the hundreds of warhorses seized from the Western Rong.
Those horses were exceptionally fine steeds. The Jin soldiers could use these warhorses for long-distance raids.
They also made great sacrifices for this, with hundreds of people killed or injured, and even their master was seriously wounded.
Thinking of this, I realized that my master was able to wake up so quickly thanks to Miss Su. As long as Miss Su took action, there was no need for the other doctors.
While he was still pondering, Su Wan asked him, "Guard Lin, do you know where the kitchen is?"
Lin Qingfeng knew what she was planning to do. He had just pointed in a direction when the two of them saw Bai Zhiyi. She had already walked over carefully, carrying a steaming jar.
Upon seeing Lin Qingfeng and Su Wan, she greeted them quite familiarly, as if none of the unpleasantness that had just occurred had happened. Only the bruises on her face revealed how badly she had fallen.
"Dr. Su, you've worked so hard. I just made a pot of chicken soup for Young Master Jin in the kitchen," Bai Zhiyi said with a smile, lifting the lid of the jar in her hand. "I'm sure I still won't be able to get into the tent, right? Then please, Dr. Su, take the chicken soup in quickly for Young Master Jin to drink."
Su Wan looked at the steaming chicken soup in front of her, exchanged a glance with Lin Qingfeng, and immediately understood.
Bai Zhiyi has changed her tactics. Since a direct frontal assault failed, she's resorting to a flanking maneuver.
Neither of them responded for a moment. Seeing that neither of them spoke, Bai Zhiyi asked with a gentle smile, "What's wrong? Is Dr. Su unwilling? The chicken soup will get cold if left out any longer."
Su Wan had to admit that Bai Zhiyi's smile was truly captivating. Just what kind of man was Lin Qingfeng, that he could throw her out twice?
Bai Zhiyi looked at the two of them with a troubled expression and said softly:
“If Guard Lin hadn’t stopped me from going in, I wouldn’t have asked Doctor Su for help. When I came over just now, I heard you two say that Young Master Jin had woken up. He must be starving by now, right? Doctor Su, as a doctor, you should know that patients need to be nourished after waking up. This chicken soup is the best for nourishing the body.”
Su Wan nodded gently: "Then thank you very much, Miss Bai. I'll take it in right away."
After saying that, she took the earthenware pot from Bai Zhiyi's hand, turned around and went into the tent.
This time, Bai Zhiyi didn't rush forward to follow, and Su Wan didn't let her go in either. She just stood there, watching Su Wan's back, a strange, cold smile appearing on her lips.
A hint of hatred flashed in those originally gentle eyes.
Dr. Su, please don't blame me. Blame yourself for blocking my way.
Unaware of Bai Zhiyi's gaze behind her, Su Wan carefully carried the chicken soup into the tent. Wei Jingzhuo, a light sleeper, immediately opened his eyes and smiled with delight upon hearing Su Wan enter.
Su Wan placed the chicken soup on the table, rubbed her hands together, and then couldn't help but tease him, "Didn't expect that, did you? The delicious chicken soup arrived so quickly."
