Su Wan, with a bright red veil covering her face, walked out of the room hand in hand with Su Yuze.
She could only see the road beneath her feet, surrounded by a cacophony of voices, the crackling of firecrackers, the banging of drummers, and the smell of gunpowder in the air.
Life is truly full of ups and downs. I just transmigrated here, slashed a villain with a pair of scissors, and now I'm a bride, about to ride in a bridal sedan chair to a strange place to face an unpredictable future, not knowing what awaits me ahead.
Su Yuze seemed to sense her nervousness and squeezed her hand, as if to tell her not to worry.
Su Wan's lips curled up slightly. Although her younger brother was young, he was quite understanding.
"Su Wan, wait a minute," Madam Yang called after her, "The Zhao family's wedding procession will be here soon, let your sister go out first."
Su Wan didn't bother with the woman. She pulled Su Yuze along, and the two siblings walked straight out, stepping over the threshold and leaving through the gate. Granny Cui followed behind, holding sunflowers and smiling.
Madam Yang glared angrily at the backs of Su Wan and her entourage, secretly gritting her teeth.
This girl just caused a huge scene, but thankfully we compromised and released Su Yuze, otherwise our good day would have been ruined. If we push her any further, who knows what kind of trouble Su Wan might cause? It's best to swallow this for now.
A gentleman takes his revenge even after ten years. It's not too late to deal with her later.
To her surprise, the Wei family, who came to fetch the bride, did not neglect Su Wan at all. Although the scale of the wedding procession was insignificant compared to that of the Zhao family, drums, firecrackers, and a bridal sedan chair were all present.
I really can't understand why a bride who's brought good luck to a patient is so adored.
Seeing Su Wan leave, she hurried back into the hall to urge Su Yue'e on, fearing that Su Wan would steal the spotlight.
"Daughter, hurry up, the Zhao family will be here soon."
"Mother, where is my cousin? I haven't seen him at all." Su Yue'e lifted her veil and looked around.
"Where has Yaozu gone off to again... Never mind that for now, let's get you into the sedan chair first," Madam Yang said with a smile, then turned and waved to Su Heng, "Hurry, hurry, the Zhao family has arrived."
At this time, the area outside the Su family's gate was already crowded with onlookers, most of whom were there to see the Zhao family's wedding procession from the capital.
This was the first time they had ever seen a wedding procession from a noble family in the capital. The wedding procession alone stretched for two miles, almost reaching the end of the street, with the suona horns blaring and the gongs and drums beating loudly—a truly grand affair.
Su Wan lifted her veil and glanced at the crowded street. Seeing that everyone's attention was focused on the Zhao family's wedding procession and no one was paying attention to them, she quickly let go of Su Yuze's hand and gently pushed him, signaling him to hurry up.
Although she was somewhat curious about her husband, whom she had never met, she did not intend to let Su Yuze go to the Wei family with her. The lesson Yang had taught her by using Su Yuze to blackmail her had made her realize that keeping a weak younger brother by her side was not a good idea.
She would decide what to do next after she met the man.
Su Yuze didn't say much, and his thin figure ran into the crowd.
Granny Cui lifted the sedan chair curtain, and Su Wan boarded the sedan chair. Peeking out from behind a corner of the curtain, she saw Su Yuze's small, thin figure waving at her before disappearing into the crowd.
She nodded in satisfaction, lowered the sedan curtain, and noticed a small, round stove at her feet, its purpose unknown. Finding it in the way, she kicked it under the seat.
And the veil—it always obstructs my view, so I tore it off and threw it aside.
The onlookers were talking excitedly, after all, when had their small border county ever seen such a grand spectacle?
"Our Suiyang County has never seen such a grand spectacle in all these years!"
"Yes, this is the first time in my life I've ever seen a wedding of a high-ranking noble family in the capital. I never knew it was so grand."
“That’s Lord Su’s daughter, it’s only right that way.”
In Suiyang County, this godforsaken place, even if the county magistrate took a concubine, they would consider it a great event, let alone imagine what a wedding in a truly prestigious family would be like. Now that they've had the good fortune to witness it, it'll be enough for them to brag about for a lifetime.
"Is that procession going to marry that sickly man from Shigang Village to bring him good luck?" Someone looked at the Wei family's wedding procession with a regretful expression. "I thought it was the bride that the Zhao family of the Marquis's mansion was going to marry, but it turns out it's not."
Someone pointed at Su Yue'e and said, "This is Lord Su's daughter. How could Lord Su's daughter marry into a rural family?"
"That's true. I've heard that the Yang family's daughter was originally going to marry into a wealthy family, but unfortunately, something happened to her family, which led to her falling into such a predicament."
Some people exclaimed, "Mrs. Yang is such a good mother; she really dared to let her marry a sickly man."
"That's better than dying, isn't it?"
Upon hearing the man's words, Granny Cui turned around and glared fiercely at him.
The man seemed to realize that it was inappropriate to say such things in front of others, and quickly changed his tune: "But good people are always blessed by heaven. Maybe things will get better after the marriage!"
Granny Cui's expression softened, and she instructed the sedan chair bearers, "Lift the sedan chair."
As the music faded, the bridal sedan chair, accompanied by music and fanfare, left Suiyang County and headed towards Shigang Village.
Sitting in the bridal sedan chair, Su Wan thought about how the Zhao family's wedding procession had to carry a large pile of dowry chests filled with stones back to the Zhao residence, only to discover the truth upon arrival. She couldn't help but cover her mouth and chuckle to herself.
Just as she was feeling happy, the bridal sedan chair suddenly lurched to the left. Caught off guard, she slammed her face against the chair.
Caught off guard, she nearly slapped her face flat. She angrily braced herself up with both hands and discovered a red lipstick mark on the carriage, with a smear running diagonally upwards, much like a checkmark drawn by a teacher with a large red pen when grading papers.
