Chapter 282 This General is in a Pleasant Mood

In the forge of the family of divine healers, in order to ensure the killing of the Otherworldly Jiang Yan, she frantically pressed the buttons, resulting in her defensive gun firing at the speed of a machine gun.

Bai Zhiyi froze for a moment, then stood up and said, "If it's really as you say, these people are probably no match for us. Let's leave here first. There's fighting going on outside; we can't go out directly. It would be troublesome if we got hurt by arrows."

"Then let's go from the side."

Su Wan left the doorway and dragged the table to the window. First, she picked up Bai Zhiyi's severed hand, put it in a sterile bag, placed it in her handbag, and put it on Bai Zhiyi's shoulder.

Bai Zhiyi asked, "Why keep this?"

“Maybe we can still bring them back,” Su Wan climbed onto the table. “Once we kill Xie Maoliang, we’ll go back to the family of divine healers.”

Bai Zhiyi said, "Do you think they'll reconnect me? I killed the head of a family of divine healers."

"It's okay, he's alive again."

After Su Wan finished speaking, she raised her foot to kick the window frame, but she didn't have enough strength. Not only did she fail to kick it open, she almost bounced herself off the table.

Upon hearing the news of Jiang Yan's resurrection, Bai Zhiyi stood there stunned for a moment before reacting. Seeing Su Wan's embarrassed expression, she leaned against the table with her back to Su Wan and said, "Lean on my back."

The two leaned against each other back to back. With Bai Zhiyi supporting her, Su Wan was able to get some leverage, kicked the window open a few times, and turned around to say, "Come on, I'll pull you up."

Bai Zhiyi turned her body and said, "I don't need your help, I can do it myself."

"Young lady, please stop fooling around. Let me help you up... that's more like it."

Su Wan pulled Bai Zhiyi onto the table. She jumped out of the window first, and then helped Bai Zhiyi up.

The windows on the west wing face the walls of the house, and there is only a narrow passageway that leads from the gap at the end of this row of wing rooms to the front yard.

Su Wan and Bai Zhiyi walked to the end of the road and saw a commotion outside. The firelight was bright, and a large group of yamen runners carrying torches were shouting as they poured into the courtyard through the gate. The smug voice of Magistrate Sun rang out from inside the courtyard.

"General Xie, all your men are dead, so you should stop resisting."

Su Wan put her finger to her lips, gestured for Bai Zhiyi to be quiet, and took her arm as they walked along the corridor. When they reached the corner of the side room, she stopped and peered into the backyard.

A large group of yamen runners stood in the courtyard, all carrying bows and crossbows, quivers, torches, and swords—there were easily over a hundred of them. Fortunately, they all had their backs to her, and no one noticed her hiding in the corner of the house.

Xie Maoliang's voice rang out from the backyard: "Sun Qing, so you had planned this all along. I really misjudged you. I'm impressed."

Bai Zhiyi trembled slightly upon hearing Xie Maoliang's voice.

Su Wan knew that she deeply hated Xie Maoliang, so she quickly turned around and whispered in her ear, "Don't make a sound."

Bai Zhiyi nodded silently.

At the front of the crowd, Magistrate Sun laughed loudly and said, "General Xie, all's fair in war. We are classmates after all, and I don't want to make things difficult for you. As long as you let me take Bai Zhiyi away, I will spare your life."

Xie Maoliang said, "You killed so many of my men and abducted the prisoners I was escorting. Aren't you afraid the imperial court will find out?"

Magistrate Sun said, "Your soldiers are robbing people everywhere in the village. I am just doing my duty to rid the people of this scourge. Besides, this is my territory, so what could possibly be leaked?"

Xie Maoliang said, "I brought Bai Zhiyi here, not so you could take her to claim a reward."

Magistrate Sun's voice turned fierce as he said, "Since you're so ungrateful, don't blame me for being impolite. Fire the arrows."

The constables took off their bows and crossbows and were about to rush forward when a flash of light appeared in the backyard, turning the night sky green.

The crowd erupted into chaos, with someone exclaiming, "Lord Sun is dead! What was that metal tube he was holding?"

Su Wan thought to herself, "This guy really did use a defensive gun."

"Hahaha," Xie Maoliang's sinister laughter rang out, "Since you've come to block my path, then all of you shall die."

Su Wan hid around the corner, her eyes flashing with green light and her ears filled with screams. Just as she was about to look, a green light flashed past her not far away, piercing through the half-closed door.

She touched her chest, then peered out with lingering fear. She saw that three-quarters of the constables had fallen, and corpses littered the ground, almost every one with holes in it, emitting wisps of smoke. The survivors were terrified and were screaming as they scattered and fled.

Xie Maoliang, holding his defensive pistol, aimed at the fleeing constables and shot them one by one, laughing, "Don't run away, where's your bravado from before? Hahaha."

While Xie Maoliang was chasing after a constable who had fled to the backyard, Su Wan grabbed Bai Zhiyi and ran towards the gate.

Bai Zhiyi said, "No, I want to kill him."

"Why kill him? This bastard has a defensive gun," Su Wan said. "Miss Bai, don't be stubborn, let's run away first."

Bai Zhiyi glanced back at Xie Maoliang's retreating figure, stomped her foot angrily, and followed Su Wan out the door.

The scene outside the gate was even more gruesome than inside the courtyard. Arrows were stuck everywhere—on the tents, on the ground, and corpses lay scattered in front of the fire and at the tent entrance. A few wounded people were still struggling and groaning.

Su Wan pulled Bai Zhiyi along as they ran, taking out a bamboo whistle and blowing it. With a cry of an eagle, a giant eagle appeared in the night sky.

With Xie Maoliang armed with a defensive gun, probably no one in this world could kill him. It's best to escape with Bai Zhiyi first, and let the healers from the family of divine physicians deal with him later.

Just as the giant eagle was about to descend, a flash of green light passed by, grazing the eagle's wing.

Su Wan was nearly scared out of her wits. If the giant eagle was killed by the defensive gun, how could she possibly bring Bai Zhiyi back to Southern Chu? She quickly blew the bamboo whistle again to make the giant eagle take off.

The giant eagle seemed very angry, cried out twice in resentment, and flew into the sky.

Xie Maoliang's voice rang out at the courtyard gate: "Who do we have here that dares to come and rescue Bai Zhiyi? It turns out to be Su Wan."

He walked towards the two men step by step, holding his defensive pistol: "Since you're not dead, that means... Wei Jingzhuo should also be alive. Even if I take Bai Zhiyi to the capital, it won't make a difference. So... I'll kill you both."

Bai Zhiyi screamed and was about to turn around and fight Xie Maoliang, but Su Wan grabbed her desperately and said, "Don't be foolish, His Highness's life is in our hands."

Her life, Bai Zhiyi's life, was tied to Wei Jingzhuo's life; they absolutely could not die here. If they died, Wei Jingzhuo would surely die as well.

The two stepped over the corpses on the ground and fled into the distance.

Xie Maoliang had drunk quite a bit of alcohol, and the cold wind made him stagger, laughing loudly as he followed behind the two men.

"Run, keep running! Seeing your despair truly pleases this general."
