Chapter 72 Those who harm others will ultimately harm themselves.

Su Wan poured the soup from the bowl back into the jar, seemingly casually stirred the soup and looked at it, saying, "This Miss Bai is truly talented; no wonder this soup tastes like plain water."

Wei Jingzhuo wanted to laugh, but his chest ached, so he just grinned and said, "Since the meat isn't cooked, let's just have the soup."

Su Wan thought to herself: Drink, drink, drink, my foot!

She immediately noticed something was off about the chicken the moment she tasted it; it had a strange medicinal flavor. But upon closer inspection of the soup, she couldn't find any edible medicine.

If Bai Zhiyi had added goji berries, ginseng, or other qi-tonifying herbs to the soup, she could at least have skimmed off some residue. But after searching repeatedly, she couldn't find any; it was just a pot of boiled chicken. Where was the medicinal taste coming from?

Her nose was as sensitive as a dog's, as was her sense of taste; she could detect the distinctive aromas of various medicines. It was this ability that prevented her from eating the food the maid had smuggled with sleeping pills when she first transmigrated, and it came in handy again now.

The chicken soup that Bai Zhiyi brought now clearly contained some kind of medicine. This medicine could be good or bad, and she couldn't distinguish the ingredients by smell alone.

This is a problem. If I drink it, I'm worried about the quality of the medicine. If I don't drink it, it seems like I'm being overly anxious and worrying unnecessarily.

What should we do?

She was lost in thought when Wei Jingzhuo called out, "A-Wan, what are you thinking about?"

Su Wan exclaimed, as if she had thought of a brilliant plan. She tapped the spoon on the mouth of the jar and turned to Wei Jingzhuo with a smile.

"Ah Jin, what do you think of Miss Bai?"

Wei Jingzhuo glanced at Su Wan and felt that she was smiling mischievously. Could she be testing his feelings for Bai Zhiyi?

“As I just said, if Ah Wan…”

“No, I meant the chicken soup,” Su Wan sat down on the edge of the bed. “Look how busy Miss Bai is. I’ve only just left the camp, and the chicken soup has already been served.”

“I didn’t ask her to do it,” Wei Jingzhuo said righteously. “I didn’t ask her to do any of these things, Awan, don’t misunderstand.”

Su Wan pressed down on his raised hand: "Don't get agitated, I didn't say that you ordered her to do it."

Wei Jingzhuo was somewhat confused. He was already in poor spirits due to excessive blood loss from his injury, and Su Wan's words, spoken in a roundabout way, left him completely bewildered.

“Actually, Miss Bai is a pretty nice person,” Su Wan said slowly. “I was talking to Guard Lin when I went out just now. He said that Miss Bai tripped and fell twice while trying to see you.”

Wei Jingzhuo snorted: "You want me to pity her?"

Su Wan said, "Ah Jin, you're too cold-hearted. Even Miss Bai is like this..."

“It has nothing to do with me,” Wei Jingzhuo said, grabbing Su Wan’s wrist in return. “Ah Wan, you should know my feelings.”

“I was talking about Miss Bai,” Su Wan said with a smile, putting the spoon back into the jar. “She waited outside and even made you chicken soup. You should at least meet her and express your gratitude.”

Wei Jingzhuo blinked, pondering the deeper meaning of Su Wan's words. After a long while, he still couldn't understand what Su Wan was thinking, so he decided to leave it to Su Wan to decide.

"Since Ah Wan says so, then let her in."

"Okay, stop holding me," Su Wan stood up and pulled her hand away. "You don't want Miss Bai to think you have homosexual tendencies, do you? I'll go out and call her in."

The IV drip was almost finished. Su Wan removed the needle, collected all the medical waste into the pharmacy, and walked lightly out of the tent.

Bai Zhiyi was waiting outside when she saw Su Wan come out and quickly went up to ask, "Doctor Su, has the young master drunk the chicken soup?"

Su Wan cupped her fist to her mouth and coughed lightly, saying, "Young Master thanks you for your care and invited you into the tent for a detailed discussion."

"Really...really?"

Bai Zhiyi was so excited that she twisted the hem of her clothes with both hands and stepped into the tent.

She had only taken two steps when she saw Lin Qingfeng, and her face turned pale instantly. She raised her hand to touch the wound on her cheek.

Lin Qingfeng could tell that his tug at Bai Zhiyi had probably left her with psychological trauma, so he quickly stepped aside to make way for her.

“No, no,” Bai Zhiyi turned around, “We can’t do this… Doctor Su, wait a moment.”

After saying that, Bai Zhiyi ran away as fast as she could.

Su Wan and Lin Qingfeng were both stunned.

Just now, Bai Zhiyi was shamelessly insisting on entering the tent. Now that we've agreed to let her in, why isn't she going in?

Su Wan and Lin Qingfeng chatted for a few moments, and then Bai Zhiyi came back like a whirlwind. She had a thin blue veil over her face, her clothes were neatly arranged, and a sachet hung from her waist. With a faint fragrance, she passed Su Wan and entered the tent.

Su Wan suddenly realized that Bai Zhiyi didn't want Wei Jingzhuo to see the wound on her face.

She followed Bai Zhiyi into the tent, where she saw Bai Zhiyi standing in front of the bed, gazing absently at Wei Jingzhuo with his eyes closed.

“Miss Bai,” Su Wan approached Bai Zhiyi, “the young master knows you are generous, so he lent me five hundred taels of silver…”

"It's just a small amount, you don't need to pay it back."

Bai Zhiyi made casual remarks, her gaze still fixed on Wei Jingzhuo's pale, jade-like face, her expression full of shyness.

"You've gone to great lengths to make chicken soup for the young master..."

"It's only right. Young master has worked hard for the country and the people, and his contributions are immense. It's nothing for me to cook some chicken soup for him."

"The young master drank some chicken soup, and he said..."

Bai Zhiyi turned to look at Su Wan and asked, "Did you drink it, young master?"

“I’ll drink it. Young Master said Miss Bai worked hard in the kitchen, so this chicken soup is for you too,” Su Wan ladled chicken soup into the bowl with a spoon. “Young Master is treating you to this soup as a token of his gratitude.”
