Su Wan wiped away her cold sweat outside.
On second thought, I was a bit too happy.
What if that man has seen her? What if he exposes her to protect himself?
She turned her head to look down and felt dizzy from the height of the ground, so she quickly turned back.
Just as they were feeling lost and confused, with neither heaven nor earth in the air, someone burst into the room. The soldier said, "I asked the innkeeper, and he said this room doesn't belong to a man; it belongs to a woman."
“No way,” another soldier said. “I just saw it, it was definitely a man who jumped out of the window. We’ve already arrested him.”
The soldier who spoke earlier said, "A woman can't become a man. Let's look again."
Su Wan secretly groaned.
If they can't find anything in the room, they'll probably have to open the window to check. This time, however, she wasn't so lucky.
Just as she was at a loss, a long ribbon, about the width of a palm, suddenly hung down in front of her.
Thinking it was the captain of the guard coming to rescue her, she was overjoyed and gripped the strap tightly with both hands. The strap immediately pulled her up slowly.
The moment his foot touched the roof, the window below was flung open with a bang, and a head popped out, looked around, and shouted, "I don't see anyone."
Someone in the room replied, "Then she jumped. Ask the people guarding the inn's entrance if any women have come or gone."
He pulled his head back in and closed the window.
Su Wan touched her chest and turned around, whispering, "That was terrifying... Ah, it's you."
The person who pulled her up was actually Chu Yi.
Chu Yi smiled and re-fastened his belt, saying, "What, you don't want to see me?"
Su Wan said, "You're a strange person, how come you always seem to appear in front of me... But thank you for saving me."
Chu Yi glanced down at the figures running around below and said, "I haven't actually left Suiyang County. There are soldiers searching for you down there. Don't go anywhere now, just wait for them to leave."
Su Wan asked, "So you're hiding on the roof?"
Chu Yi walked along the roof tiles for a while, then reached out his hand and whispered to her, "Come over here. Walk slowly, don't slip."
The roof was a slope, and Su Wan was initially afraid of slipping, but halfway across, she remembered Wei Jingzhuo and withdrew her hand, saying to Chu Yi, "I can get across by myself."
She approached Chu Yi and asked, "Why did you send me here?"
Chu Yi smiled and said, "When you were hanging down there just now, I was going to pull you up, but I saw you making eye contact with that Young Master Ge. What, don't you want to hear the story that happened down there?"
Su Wan asked, "What Young Master Ge?"
"That's the guy who hangs the bed sheet outside the window."
"His surname is Ge?"
"That's right."
Su Wan immediately became interested.
It wasn't that she wanted to gossip; firstly, she was on the roof and couldn't go anywhere. Secondly, there were soldiers searching for her below, so she had nothing better to do.
She carefully crouched down, and the sounds coming from the room below became clearer.
Young Master Ge said, "Xiao Feng, they already know about our relationship. If they tell my father, we're both finished."
The third wife's voice said, "Young master, let's just run away and find a place where no one is around to live."
After a moment of silence, Young Master Ge said, "If we leave, I won't get any of my father's inheritance..."
The third wife retorted angrily, "Then what are we going to do? Just wait? You may be shameless, but I am. How can I face anyone if people find out about my affair with you?"
Su Wan thought to herself, "How dare you two adulterers say that? If you knew this would happen, why did you do it in the first place? Your son is secretly meeting with his own father's concubine, and the concubine actually has the nerve to mention shame. As long as no one finds out, they have no shame."
She turned to look at Chu Yi and saw that he was also smiling, seemingly listening with great interest.
"Chu Yi, back when you were in the General's Mansion, did you also eavesdrop on my conversation with my husband like this?" she suddenly asked.
Chu Yi was taken aback at first, then quickly shook his head: "Absolutely not, I would never do such a thing."
Su Wan said, "I know you are a prince of Southern Chu, you can't possibly do the right thing, right? So what are you doing now?"
Chu Yi gave a wry smile: "If I didn't save you on the rooftop, where else could I be? Did you expect me to walk right into the inn and tell the soldiers that this is my woman and none of you can touch her?"
"You." Su Wan turned her face away angrily, not wanting to look at this guy anymore.
"I was just kidding, don't be angry." Chu Yi's tone changed from joking to serious. "You know that the people below are all that general's men. If I openly save you, that would be going against the general."
Su Wan then turned her head and asked, "Aren't you, Ge Fanghai, and that general all in cahoots?"
Chu Yi raised his hands and spread his fingers like claws: "Of course not. Otherwise, I would have arrested you and used you to blackmail Wei Jingzhuo."
Su Wan asked, "Then tell me, who is that general?"
“How could I possibly know?” Chu Yi said, somewhat bored, lowering his hands. “It’s always been Ge Fanghai who’s been communicating with that general. I came here today hoping to meet with this general, but instead…”
"I was interrupted by your sister and brother-in-law's sudden visit." Su Wan finished the sentence for him, "You ran really fast."
"I guess so," Chu Yi smiled. "She starts nagging me as soon as she sees me, even more so than my mother... Don't glare at me, I'm not saying all women are like that, only my third sister is like that."
Su Wan asked, "Do you know that your brother-in-law and sister have been captured by that general and brought back here?"
