Chapter 75 First Encounter with the Jade-Faced General

The guard went in to report, and Su Wan and Lu Na waited at the entrance of the General's Mansion.

A large herd of cattle and sheep crowded in front of the general's mansion. The cattle were relatively quiet, but the sheep bleated and defecated everywhere, making the entrance to the general's mansion smell like sheep manure.

Luna asked Su Wan, "Little Brother Su, is the General's Mansion your home? What is your background?"

Su Wan was also aware that Luna was very nervous. Although the war between Xirong and Dajin was a matter between armies, there were often hostile acts between civilians, and not every Xirong person could trade with her like Luna.

She could tell that the Luna people weren't bad, so she said, "I'm a doctor in the general's mansion, responsible for treating the wounded soldiers in the camp. Sometimes I'm also responsible for purchasing supplies, like right now."

Luna didn't care; he bought and sold cattle and sheep simply to make a living. However, he was still somewhat afraid if he were to enter the general's mansion.

"I...I think I'd better not go in."

Luna stammered, though his face still wore a fearless expression, but in reality, he was already imagining the terrifying scene of being captured by soldiers and beheaded on charges of being a spy for the Western Rong.

Su Wan smiled sincerely and said, "Brother Lu, since I'm buying your cattle and sheep, I'll guarantee your safety. Neither of us are soldiers, so there's nothing to worry about."

Luna thought to herself: Since Brother Su lives in the General's Mansion, even if the medicine he gave me was a scam, do you really think I'd come here to find him? It seems I really have to swallow my pride and bear it this time. If I had known he was from the General's Mansion, I definitely wouldn't have sold him these cattle and sheep.

Seeing his expression shift between light and dark, Su Wan simply patted his shoulder: "Brother Lu, we've already made a deal. Don't you really trust me?"

Luna felt his mouth go dry, swallowed, and said, "You make it sound so easy. If I asked you to go see our king, wouldn't you be afraid?"

Su Wan smiled and said, "The army's fighting has nothing to do with us civilians. It's so late, and you can't make it back in time. Just stay at the general's mansion for the night. There are empty rooms available for guests."

Luna was about to decline when Lin Qingfeng came out from inside the door.

He raised his hand to fan his nose to dispel the smell of sheep dung, first looking Luna up and down before bowing to Su Wan and saying, "Doctor Su, the master wants you to bring the guests in."

Su Wan smiled and said, "Alright, I bought these cattle and sheep. Have someone find a place to raise them. I also have something to discuss with your master."

After saying that, she tugged at Luna's sleeve: "Let's go."

Luna glanced at Lin Qingfeng and, seeing that he didn't make things difficult for her, felt a little relieved and followed Su Wan into the General's Mansion.

This was his first time entering the Northwest General's Mansion. His curious eyes darted around, but apart from the lit rooms, the courtyard was pitch black, and he couldn't see anything. Occasionally, a patrol of soldiers carrying torches would pass by, their armor and weapons clanging with a heavy, menacing air.

The two followed Lin Qingfeng through the halls and corridors, and soon arrived at an exquisite villa behind the General's Mansion.

Lin Qingfeng led the two into the reception room, where Su Wan immediately spotted Wei Jingzhuo, who had returned sometime earlier.

He sat in a chair, wearing a loose, moon-white robe, his long, ink-black hair falling loosely over his shoulders, and he was reading a book.

The orange candlelight shone on his jade butterfly mask, reflecting a faint yellow light that seemed to flow slowly, making him appear like a noble, ethereal being from a dream.

Luna had never seen such a handsome man before. Although he couldn't see the man's face, the aura emanating from him made him lower his posture involuntarily.

The room was completely silent, except for the occasional sound of him turning the pages of a book.

Seeing that Wei Jingzhuo remained silent and was simply reading, Su Wan thought to herself, "You're quite the show-off." She coughed and said, "Young Master, let me introduce you..."

“No need,” Wei Jingzhuo closed the book with one hand, looked up, and without looking at Luna, said gently to Su Wan, “You’ve been out all day, you must be hungry. I’ve already asked someone to make you something delicious. Go wash up first, and then we’ll have dinner together later.”

The servants then brought out the dinner one after another, placed it on the table, and quietly left the room.

Su Wan had no idea what this person meant. He asked Lin Qingfeng to call the person over, but then acted as if Luna didn't exist. It was really just making a big fuss.

As Luna scrutinized Wei Jingzhuo's butterfly mask again and again, her whole body gradually tensed up.

Although he was not a soldier, he had heard of the generals of the Jin army. It was said that there was a general with a jade-faced face in the Jin Dynasty, whose identity was unknown, and who always wore a butterfly mask on his face.

This person is very famous in their Western Rong region.

The true enemy of the Western Rong army is this jade-faced general before them.

To think that he would actually meet the legendary Jade-Faced General in the General's Mansion was simply unbelievable. If he could kill this Jade-Faced General in one fell swoop, the entire Western Rong would probably be proud of him. With that kind of prestige, he would be practically king, if not king.

However, the Western Rong people had heard that General Jade Face was a highly skilled martial artist. They felt that with their mediocre fighting skills, they would probably die without even knowing how they were killed if they made a rash move. It was better not to think about such unrealistic things.

As Luna was lost in thought, Su Wan glanced at Wei Jingzhuo.

Because of the butterfly mask, his face couldn't be seen. Su Wan thought to herself, "He still has an injury on his chest, how did he get back to the manor? Did someone carry him back?"

However, since Luna was there, she couldn't ask directly, so she changed the subject.

“Young master, I forgot to introduce you. This is a friend I met in Youzhou City some time ago. His name is Luna.”

Then she turned to Luna and said, "Brother Luna, this is my young master."

Wei Jingzhuo then glanced at Luna, his gaze cold.

For the first time, Luna felt the gaze of the Jade-Faced General upon him, and he couldn't help but tremble. This gaze made him realize for the first time the gap between people and the difference in status.

Even through the butterfly mask, he could feel the powerful pressure of that gaze. That cold gaze was like two ice swords, making his legs weak and almost causing him to kneel down.

Only those who have been through countless battles possess such a gaze. Just by looking at his eyes, he could tell that the person before him was the Jade-Faced General himself, and certainly not a double.

However, he vaguely sensed that the jade-faced general in front of him seemed to harbor a trace of hostility towards him.

This hostility did not stem from the confrontation between the Great Jin and the Western Rong, but rather from a contest between two men.

He was somewhat bewildered. This was his first time here, and he was certain he hadn't offended the man before him. Why was this jade-faced general looking at him like that?

Wei Jingzhuo's gaze lingered on him for a moment before lowering it again, and he asked in a cool tone, "Answer me, what tribe do you belong to?"

With just one glance, Wei Jingzhuo guessed Luna's true identity.
