Chapter 309 Building a Raft

Su Wan guessed that the giant eagle had attacked the Jin army's ships, a guess that was confirmed three days later.

In the morning, the tide pushed a section of the ship's mast onto the beach, along with a torn part of the sail. She carefully examined and compared it with the cloth wrapped around the giant eagle's talons, confirming that they were the same material.

On the vast ocean, once a ship is sunk, the people on board will surely die.

She didn't know how many ships the giant eagle had sunk, but she did know that many people had lost their lives trying to rescue her.

“Feifei, I can’t wait here any longer,” she stopped sawing and wiped the sweat from her forehead. “Ajin will keep sending people over to save me. All of them will die in the giant eagle’s attack.”

She decided to rely on herself and build a boat to leave the island. As the old saying goes, there's always a solution. Since she couldn't get the giant eagle to take her, she would find her own way.

She wanted to leave, partly because she didn't want everyone to die for her, and partly because she wanted to see Wei Jingzhuo one last time before she died. Although her death in November was inevitable, dying in her lover's arms would be an acceptable ending.

Beside her, the turtle Feifei looked up at her sawing palm tree trunks, slowly chewing on oysters.

After spending these days together, Feifei became very dependent on her, rushing straight to her as soon as they got ashore. She also enjoyed talking to Feifei, which at least alleviated the loneliness of having no one to keep her company.

The saw blade was left over from the apartment renovation. Besides the saw, there was also paint, a spirit level, a hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, a bunch of nails, wire, plastic sheeting, and so on.

She planned to build a boat, but she knew nothing about shipbuilding, so she had to build a large raft instead.

Making a raft is much simpler. First, select suitable tree trunks, cut them down, and then tie them together side by side with wire to provide sufficient buoyancy. Then, erect a mast and use plastic sheeting as a sail.

With nowhere to block the sun at sea, they painted plastic sheeting with paint, propped it up with a wooden frame, and made a simple boat awning.

We also need to make two oars, to paddle in the wind and keep the boat moving when there is no wind.

Food and water were the easiest to obtain. There were so many fish that they couldn't eat them all, so they were hung up to dry and then brought into the apartment, which had running water.

Everything was planned well, and after she had eaten and drunk her fill, she began to work.

The first step is to saw the tree.

Emerald Island was full of trees, so there was plenty of material. She chose a palm tree whose trunk was about as thick as her waist and began to saw it with a saw blade.

She sawed and sawed for an hour, until her arms were so tired she could barely lift them, and the saw blade was burning hot to the touch. She had only cut through a third of the blade. When she went out of the apartment to get some water, her hands were shaking.

Left with no other choice, she went back inside and slept. When the moon rose that night, she had rested enough, so she went out to saw again, resting whenever she got tired.

With perseverance, even an iron rod can be ground into a needle.

After sawing for a day and a night, the palm tree finally crashed down.

In her excitement, she discovered a new problem: she couldn't simply drag the tree to the beach. She couldn't pull it by hand, and the canopy prevented her from rolling it away.

Since the raft didn't need the whole tree, she selected the best five meters from the middle of the trunk, drew a line on it, and continued sawing.

This sawing method is much less strenuous than standing and pulling the saw. You can place one foot on the trunk and hold the saw blade with both hands, pulling it back and forth. As the saw blade cuts fine marks on the trunk, it makes a hissing sound, and sawdust falls from the depths of the cuts like dust.

After sawing for a whole morning, they finally managed to cut the tree trunk completely. Then, using an iron bar and leveraging the principle of leverage, they slowly pried the trunk to the beach. The progress was so slow that even the sea turtle Feifei had to stop and wait for her.

What's even worse are those seagulls. Not only did they steal the dried fish she was drying, but they also carried the dried fish and landed in rows on the tree trunk to show off. The tree trunk was already incredibly heavy, and those scoundrels added to its weight.

By the time she finished all that, it was almost dinnertime. She was so exhausted that she collapsed and fell asleep on the beach.

In her dream, she was on a raft drifting with the wind, and soon she saw the mainland. Once on land, someone recognized her as the empress and immediately sent a carriage to take her to the capital.

When they arrived at the city gate of Shangjing, Wei Jingzhuo was already waiting there. He was still wearing that dark dragon robe, his handsome face full of joy. He ran towards her with his arms outstretched, calling her name.

“Ah Wan, Ah Wan.”

Unable to contain her excitement, she ran towards Wei Jingzhuo with all her might, calling out, "A-Jin, A-Jin."

The two rushed forward and embraced tightly. She wanted to give him a passionate kiss first, but Wei Jingzhuo lowered his head and nuzzled her waist with his head.

"Ah Jin, what are you doing, haha," she found it too funny and couldn't help but laugh, "What do you mean by this? Stop messing around."

Wei Jingzhuo ignored her and continued to nudge her with his head until she could no longer stand.

"Stop fooling around, I'm going to fall," she warned.

Wei Jingzhuo picked her up and threw her out. She landed with a splash in the lake beside him.

She was completely submerged in water and was terrified. She cried out, "Ah Jin, save me! I can't swim!" But as soon as she uttered the words, lake water rushed into her mouth, filling it with a salty and bitter taste.

She suddenly opened her eyes, sat up, and spat out the seawater in her mouth.

It turns out the tide came in while she was asleep.

A bright moon shone overhead onto the beach, and the tide had risen so high that she was completely submerged. The sea turtle Feifei was nudging her waist with its head, trying to push her away.

She got up, wrung out her wet clothes, and patted Feifei's turtle shell: "Luckily you reminded me. I'll give you something good to eat tomorrow. I'm going back to my room to rest."
