Lupin led a squad of guards to wait outside Su Wan's tent. The soldiers guarding the tent paced back and forth impatiently.
He felt that Luna had taken too long to arrive, making him suspicious that something had happened. However, the king had a strict order: no one was allowed to enter the goddess's tent without her permission, or they would be executed.
After pacing back and forth several times, he saw a maidservant emerge from the tent and hurriedly asked, "Isn't the goddess ready yet? Is my brother inside?"
The maid had no liking for him whatsoever, and said with a stern face, "Commander, why are you asking so many questions? If you're in such a hurry, why don't you just go in and see for yourself?"
Lupin nearly flew into a rage, but he didn't have time to argue with a maid, so he put on a smiling face: "Last time I trespassed into the goddess's tent, I was drunk. Now look at me, standing here quite properly, aren't I?"
The maid's expression softened, and she said, "Master is naturally making preparations. Luna accidentally twisted his ankle and can't even stand up now."
"Oh... my brother... sprained his ankle again, what a coincidence!"
Lupin blinked, recalling Luna's charade in the operating tent. That time, he'd pretended to trip and drop things. Was this another delaying tactic?
The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt, and he said to the maid, "Call my brother out."
The maid replied, "I wouldn't dare. My master needs him as an assistant; this is a power granted to my master by the King. How could we, as servants, dare to order him around so casually?"
Lupin was getting impatient. If Luna was really acting, it could only mean one thing: he had already told Su Wan the truth.
Just as he was about to rush into the tent, the maid raised her hands and said, "Stop! Commander, you're going to force your way in again! Soldiers!"
The guards standing in front of the tent immediately drew their swords, and the lead guard shouted, "Commander, please do not advance any further. This is the King's order. If you remain obstinate, do not blame us for being impolite."
Rupin, anxious to check the situation inside the tent, roared, "I am your commander of ten thousand! Do you listen to me or that brat?!"
The guards behind him also drew their swords, and the two sides were on the verge of a fight.
Just as the stalemate was reaching its conclusion, a commotion arose from the direction of the camp gate in the distance. The sound of a gate opening and the clatter of horses' hooves carried on the night breeze, and everyone present turned to look in that direction.
Lupin's body stiffened, and he said to a guard beside him who was leading a horse, "Go over there and see what happened."
The guard obeyed and left, but soon returned on horseback, looking panicked. "Commander, it's your brother! He's taken the goddess and escaped from the camp on horseback!"
Lupin was furious and shouted, "How is this possible? What were the gatekeepers doing? How could they let them out?"
He had always thought that no matter what tricks Su Wan and Lu Na played, they wouldn't be able to escape from the Xirong army's camp. But unexpectedly, something did happen.
Another guard reminded him, "Commander, you've forgotten. Luna is the King's special envoy; he carries the King's token and has unrestricted access."
"Oh, I forgot about that."
Lupin slapped his forehead in regret, went forward and pulled the messenger off his horse, then mounted his own horse and charged out of the camp alone.
"I'll go first, you guys hurry up and catch up."
