Chapter 483: Visiting Friend Lingyan, What is the Demonic Obstacle?
Jin Ting Daxian had very few friends in Gusu. Originally, Bai Xianglong came up to him to flatter him and could barely be considered a friend, but Jin Ting Daxian really looked down on people like Bai Xianglong, so he had sent him to Shangfang Mountain to serve as his hidden pawn.
The Taihu God was originally a superficial friend, but was framed by King Tonghui and the relationship was severed.
King Tonghui can be considered a friend with ulterior motives, but the Immortal Jinting also has ulterior motives. When two people with ulterior motives meet, they always have to fight a few moves first.
In the end, it was King Shicheng, who had only invited him to two banquets, who was more to Jinting Daxian's liking.
He came here this time without any purpose, but he heard that Lingyan Mountain had also taken in a lot of refugees, so he came to take a look.
Lingyan Mountain did take in a lot of refugees. King Shicheng had been running it for many years, and Xiufeng Temple was quite effective, so this Buddhist temple had a good foundation.
Now a large number of homeless refugees came into Wu County. The old monk took a look and agreed that his disciples should help with disaster relief.
A porridge stall was set up at the foot of the mountain, supplying rice and water every day, and every person who could be saved was saved.
Such a good deed also received support from many people. There were many wealthy merchants in Gusu who contributed part of the money and donated part of the food. The entire Lingyan Temple gathered a lot of refugees.
When Jin Ting Daxian came to Xiufeng Temple, there were not many monks in the temple.
The old monk was chanting, while the others went to help provide relief to the refugees.
When the Immortal Jin Ting arrived, the King of Shicheng was a little surprised and asked, "How come you have the time to come to me today?"
Jin Ting Daxian laughed and said, "I was originally going to Gusu, but when I passed by you, I saw that your place was crowded and full of bad luck, so I thought of coming down to see you. I didn't expect you to be providing relief to the victims."
King Shicheng sighed and said, "Buddha is merciful. I cannot bear to see this."
Jin Ting Daxian simply chatted with him, and from his few words, he learned that Xiufeng Temple had already started providing relief.
Xiufeng Temple provided relief to refugees earlier than the government. Last year, there were two disasters: drought and locusts, and the winter was cold, so there were already refugees, most of whom were from nearby counties.
The government did not care at first, but the monks of Xiufeng Temple could not bear to see this, so they started to provide assistance.
It was only this year that the government, realizing the seriousness of the situation, decided to report the matter to King Wu and implement benevolent policies, regardless of the potential chaos. Only then did they provide relief with great fanfare and momentum, easing the pressure on Xiufeng Temple.
Otherwise, even if Xiufeng Temple scraped off the golden body of the Buddha, it would not be enough to fill the bottomless pit of these people.
The Immortal Jin Ting sighed and said, "You are so kindhearted that you are more human than anyone else. All I have seen and heard along the way is that this world is turbid and difficult to navigate, and it makes me sick."
King Shicheng shook his head and said, "It's very difficult to survive under the great catastrophe."
Jin Ting Daxian nodded and said, "No wonder you don't have time to go to Shangfang Mountain to preach. It turns out you are stuck because of this matter."
King Shicheng's heart skipped a beat. He looked at the Immortal Jinting and asked, "Why are you dealing with Shangfang Mountain? I thought people like you looked down on them."
The Immortal Jin Ting said, "I really don't think much of them, but who can blame them for their great magical powers? I don't have the ability to refuse them."
The King of Stone City hesitated for a moment and warned, "The Five-Powered Gods are extraordinary. They are both good and evil, and often act in extreme ways. If you have to deal with them, be careful."
Jin Ting Daxian suddenly laughed and said, "So you didn't go to Shangfang Mountain, not because you didn't have time, but because you were deliberately hiding."
The King of Shicheng asked, "Do you really have to say it like this?"
Jin Ting Daxian said: "I like to be straightforward. There is nothing I can't say."
King Shicheng snorted coldly and said, "I just don't want to go, okay? I was born and raised in Wu County, and I also practiced in Wu County. I have heard a lot about what kind of person the Five-Directional God is."
"If you cultivate supernatural powers but don't practice Buddhism, and refuse to save yourself, how can I save others? The old lady invites me to go, but what will happen if I go?"
The Immortal Jin Ting said, "King Shicheng has a clear mind. He will avoid it if he can. But if someone like me can't avoid it, he will also think of some way to escape."
He took advantage of the situation and asked about the five magical powers of the King of Stone City.
The King of Shicheng said, "Why are you suddenly asking about the Five Divine Powers... I understand."
He didn't ask any more questions, pondered for a moment, and then said, "The word 'supernatural power' is something that is self-generated, just like the flame of a lamp; the flame itself has light. Buddhism has six supernatural powers: divine eye, divine ear, divine mind, divine destiny, divine wish-fulfilling, and the cessation of defilements. The cessation of defilements is the cessation of all defiled afflictions. Through tranquility and meditation, one manifests a majestic and virtuous state, a state attainable only by saints."
"Thus, when discussing supernatural powers, we often mention the five. These five powers, however, should not be deliberately sought. Buddhist practice requires both self-salvation and self-awakening, as well as the salvation of others and awakening of others. Therefore, one needs eyes that can see all forms and colors, ears that can hear all sounds, and the ability to understand the thoughts of sentient beings and the fates of all living beings. Only by allowing one's mind to reach the places where sentient beings in the ten directions travel can one attain these five supernatural powers."
"When you practice Buddhism, supernatural powers will naturally arise. There is no need to be greedy, as this will only lead to demonic obstacles."
The Immortal Jin Ting raised his eyebrows and said, "What if it's greed?"
The Great King of Stone City said, "It is like neglecting the essential and pursuing the trivial. Although you may temporarily gain supernatural powers, in the end, you are still just a pillar in the wall or a brick in the kiln. You have already fallen into the devil's barrier, and you don't even know it."
The Immortal Jin Ting asked again, "What kind of demonic obstacle is this?"
King Shicheng hesitated and said, "I can only hear and smell now. Although it is not a great ability, it is also a righteous way. I don't know what kind of demonic obstacle it is."
"But obstacles vary from person to person, so it's hard to say."
King Shicheng couldn't say it, but Immortal Jinting already had a guess in his mind.
It is like King Tonghui who has achieved the ability to see destiny. He is often able to make plans, but he is also extremely concerned about things that he cannot see through.
The Great Immortal Jin Ting fought with him secretly only because King Tonghui tried to spy on his fate and calculate his past and future, but the Great Immortal Jin Ting used his own Taoist magic to block him, causing him to often fail at the last moment.
Isn't this going around in circles just King Tonghui's stubbornness?
The Immortal Jin Ting seemed to be lost in thought, and the King of Shicheng did not disturb him.
The Immortal Jin Ting did not understand what the obstacles of King Tongyou and King Tongji were, so he turned around and thanked King Shicheng.
King Shicheng simply waved his hand and said, "If you truly wish to escape them, and there's no other way, you might as well shave your head and worship at Xiufeng Temple. Your practice of the Moon Dharma aligns perfectly with the Dharma of Moonlight Bodhisattva. With your wisdom, you'll be able to become abbot in a few years."
Jin Ting Daxian touched his white hair and said, "It doesn't matter if I shaved my head. I'm just afraid that it will anger them and bring trouble to Xiufeng Temple."
The King of Shicheng said, "Don't worry, I have someone to back me up."
The master of Xiufeng Temple, a great monk who practiced Buddhism, actually said such words. Even the Immortal Jinting was amused by him.
