Chapter 55: Testing Ning Caichen
As for how effective it would be, Gong Mengbi couldn't guarantee it.
These two noble people still have a lot to go through. It doesn’t matter whether they study or not. What matters is that they live well.
Gong Mengbi couldn't see clearly which path they would take or how far they would go.
Wish you good luck, wish you good luck.
Gong Mengbi muttered this and finally sighed.
Although the annoying guy is annoying, he was raised by Gong Mengbi after all. Although he has some expectations for his good life, he is more worried.
I want them to grow up quickly and not be afraid of the wind and rain. But I am also afraid that they will grow up too fast and lose their innocence.
While waiting for Chenshan to take the two little ghosts out and take a boat to Yuhang, Gong Mengbi did not see them off.
I can't bear it.
The yellow-bellied tit said from under the eaves: "So you were waiting for these two little devils."
Gong Mengbi said, "Not entirely. I still need to find a teacher. Now that I've sent these two little devils away, I can go see him."
The yellow-bellied tit landed on Gong Mengbi's shoulder and asked, "Do you still need to ask the teacher for advice?"
Gong Mengbi said, "It's not for me, it's for the other foxes. I'm currently working at the Heavenly Fox Court, holding a minor position in charge of the foxes in Wuning County. Since it's difficult for foxes to cultivate, I'm planning to establish a fox academy and invite some talented teachers to teach the foxes."
The Yellow-bellied Tit said, "It's interesting to teach the fox."
Gong Mengbi said, "But the Fox School hasn't been established yet. There's no classroom, no teachers, and no students. It's not easy to open the Fox School in three months."
The yellow-bellied tit said, "Then you'd better hurry up. If there's anything I can help you with, you can ask me for help."
"Even if you didn't tell me, I would have asked for your help." Gong Mengbi said with a smile.
While chatting and laughing, they arrived at Ning Caichen's house.
Ning Caichen's family was relatively large, having inherited property from his father, but they had fallen on hard times and were struggling to make ends meet. He had only one mother, who did not appear to be in good health.
Gong Mengbi had seen it outside and had a rough idea in his mind.
The yellow-bellied tit asked, "Aren't you going in to invite the gentleman?"
Gong Mengbi said, "He's not at home. He should be copying books for the Liu family, a wealthy family in the county."
The yellow-bellied tit continued, "He's a scholar, right? If you ask him to give a lecture to the fox, won't that scare him?"
Gong Mengbi said: "So we need to give him a try."
It's getting dark.
Ning Caichen was about to leave, but the Liu family's housekeeper saw that he had almost finished copying the book and that the master seemed to appreciate him, so he asked him to stay for one night.
One was to finish copying the book, and the other was to provide him with a good meal and drink.
Ning Caichen looked at the sutra that was almost finished, thought about it and agreed, but said he would go back and tell his mother so that she would not worry.
The Liu family official said, "I'll just send someone to run it, so you don't have to go back and forth."
Ning Caichen thanked him.
The old lady of the Liu family was a devout Buddhist. The three volumes of sutras Ning Caichen copied were borrowed from Huaguang Temple by the old lady. In order to study regularly, she asked a scholar with beautiful handwriting to help copy the sutras.
Mr. Liu heard from the Shen family that Ning Caichen was a scholar who was proficient in writing, so he asked him to copy the scriptures.
Ning Caichen needed money at that time, so he would not refuse.
After dinner, Ning Caichen continued to copy the scriptures word for word.
The candlelight flickered, illuminating the study.
Ning Caichen felt a little envious. When he was young, his family could afford to light lamps like this, but after his father passed away, he had no livelihood and could only light a small oil lamp to read at night.
It hurts and irritates the eyes, but there is no way to deal with it.
He shook his head slightly, feeling that his thoughts had strayed a little, and refocused his attention on the scripture in front of him.
Just at this moment, Ning Caichen heard someone knocking on the door.
He opened the door and saw a very pretty woman holding a food box in her hand.
Ning Caichen asked doubtfully, "Miss, who are you?"
The woman said, "I am a maid in the mansion. It is still a little cold at night, so I came to bring you a bowl of soup to warm you up."
Ning Caichen suddenly realized and said, "Thank you very much, young lady."
He reached out to take the food box, but the woman dodged him.
The woman looked at him and smiled, her eyes full of spring, her lips full of affection, very charming.
She walked in head-on, and Ning Caichen had to move out of the way.
When passing by Ning Caichen, Ning Caichen smelled a light fragrance.
The woman put the food box away, but did not place the soup bowl on the table. Instead, she held it in her hand and handed it to Ning Caichen, saying, "Please have some soup, young master."
Ning Caichen was quite at a loss. He carefully took the bowl of soup and only felt the woman's soft hand brushing against his.
"Miss, just leave the lunch box here and come back to get it tomorrow." Ning Caichen said.
The woman said, "That won't do. I'm going to take the food box away. You can just drink the soup."
Ning Caichen sat on the stool and drank the soup in a hurry. He only tasted that it was a bowl of chicken soup, and his mouth was so burned that it hurt.
He placed the soup bowl in the food box and said, "Thank you, young lady. Please go ahead."
The woman didn't leave. Instead, she closed the door and looked at him with a smile: "Why are you drinking so fast?"
She walked forward and Ning Caichen stepped back.
"Miss, men and women should not touch each other." Ning Caichen said.
The woman said, "I don't care. What do you have to be afraid of?"
Seeing her approaching, Ning Caichen quickly moved away: "You're not a maid, are you? I've never seen such an unruly maid."
The woman snorted softly, her waist swaying gracefully as she said, "You're quite clever. I'm not a maid. I'm a concubine of the Liu family."
Ning Caichen's expression turned even uglier. "Since you are Master Liu's concubine, how dare you come into my room?"
The woman said, "What are you afraid of? Old Liu is old and useless. I have always admired scholars, especially handsome scholars like you. Don't be afraid, no one will know."
Ning Caichen's chest heaved as he suppressed his anger and said, "Please respect yourself."
The woman's expression turned ugly: "If you don't like a beauty like me, who else can you like?"
Ning Caichen said, "Anyway, I'm not as self-deprecating as you."
The woman laughed in anger, and even in her anger, her face still flushed, looking very beautiful. "He is an old cow eating young grass, which is useless. How can you blame me for not loving myself?"
She continued softly and tenderly, "I still have some property. If you stay with me, you can spend my money. When Mr. Liu gets older, we can find a way to seize his property. Wouldn't that be more useful than just rote learning?"
Ning Caichen flung the door open and said, "You have no shame and are vicious. I despise women like you. Get out of here and don't delay me from copying the scriptures."
The woman was so angry that tears welled up in her eyes. She asked, "Are you still a man?"
Ning Caichen hid far away from her: "Get out."
The woman stamped her feet, picked up the food box and left, turning back to curse: "Poor scholar, you deserve to suffer all your life."
Ning Caichen slammed the door shut, leaned against it, and punched it hard.
