Chapter 62: Palace Master's First Lesson
"I can't ask for the highest reward for you, but if you have talent, I can recommend you to take the entrance exam to become a student at the Sky Fox Academy. I can only reluctantly ask for the lowest reward for you, which is to allow you to live in the human world, so that you won't die by the mouths of dogs, by the hands of men, or by slaying demons. I can allow you to live a peaceful life."
"If someone unfortunately dies young, and their spirit can be saved, I can pray for you and show you a way to become a ghost or fox spirit. But I advise you that it is best not to let such a day come to pass."
Gong Mengbi stood on the platform and spoke to the foxes word by word.
As he was speaking, the fox below became restless.
Foxes are like this, seeking profit and avoiding harm. They like to cling to powerful people, to create something out of nothing, to borrow chickens to lay eggs, and to use the power of the tiger to bully others.
As Gong Mengbi said this, in the eyes of the fox, he was just a tiger that could be used for leverage, a thigh that could be clung to, and a chicken that could lay golden eggs.
The eyes of each fox were shining, and they were ready to make a move after listening to Gong Mengbi's words.
Gong Mengbi glanced down and said, "You should understand clearly that you are now under my control. If you don't obey my discipline, as long as you don't violate the fox law, I won't have time to bother with you. If you are willing to accept discipline, then I will do my best to teach you well."
"I am willing to be disciplined!" a white-footed fox immediately shouted.
How can we let this guy get ahead of us?
The foxes became agitated for a moment, and echoes rose one after another.
“We are willing to be disciplined!”
Gong Mengbi nodded and said, "Don't make noise."
The foxes did not dare to cause trouble and became quiet.
"Whether you are willing to be disciplined by me or not, you don't need to tell me. Words spoken with your mouth don't count."
Gong Mengbi looked at Fox Heart Xiaoqi, paused, and did not push Fox Heart Xiaoqi forward. Instead, he cast his gaze on Kang Wen and said, "Over the past month, I have sent fox envoys to patrol the village and investigate your situation. In the end, I got a list of names."
"Kang Wen, tell me."
Kang Wen suddenly felt a surge of blood rushing to her head. She said solemnly, "According to the Fox Society, there are 156 fox tribes in Wuning County. Some do not bother others, some are worshipped, and some mingle with the crowd. They are all good foxes. But among them there are more than 30 evil foxes. Some use evil magic to seduce men and women, some eat people and steal their energy, some steal people's property and enslave their masters, and some raise babies and use them to practice magic. These are evil foxes."
Before Kang Wen finished speaking, a shadow from the fox pack quietly retreated and fled into the forest.
Gong Mengbi said to the judge behind the platform, "Bring him here."
The green-robed ghost still had time to bow and say, "I receive the order."
He suddenly disappeared from the spot and escaped into the mountains and forests.
The deep woods are the home of the green-clothed ghost. He is surrounded by smoke and a bow made of vines appears in his hand. He draws the bow and shoots an arrow, which flies into the forest.
Then a scream was heard from the forest.
The foxes saw the green-clothed ghost holding a vine basket and coming to the altar. The ghost threw the vine basket on the ground, and the vines gathered like a snake and turned into a flying arrow.
At the end of the flying arrow was a pierced fox.
The foxes were silent as cicadas in fear, and could not help feeling the sorrow of their own kind and the grief of the fox's death.
Gong Mengbi said, "Kang Wen, come and identify him."
Kang Wen stepped forward to identify him and said, "So it's you."
The fox cried, "You are seeking revenge! I will report you to the Queen Mother of Mount Tai. Although you are a fox, you are acting for others and killing your own kind!"
Kang Wen said, "Bullshit! You relied on your little magical powers to scheme to drown the host you were staying with, seize his property, kill his son, and take his wife. You're greedy, cunning, and vicious, and you still dare to argue!"
The fox said, "I just had the farmhands kick you out when you came to my house, and you've been holding a grudge and seeking revenge!"
The fox, pierced in the shoulder, stretched out a foot and said, "That man threw a stone at me and injured my foot. I am still lame. What is wrong with me taking revenge on him?"
"He's a human, and you're the fox's superior. How can you speak for him? How can you harm the fox for the sake of a human?" The fox shouted, "Even if you kill me, I will report it to the Queen Mother of Mount Tai and ask her to punish you!"
Gong Mengbi sneered, stepped aside, and revealed the two shrines behind him.
"You want to sue me before the Queen Mother of Mount Tai? Fine, I'll let you sue me!"
Gong Mengbi stretched out his hand and captured the fox, bringing it before the tablet of the Taishan Goddess: "Sue, the Goddess' spirit is here."
The fox was sweating profusely and wanted to argue, but when he looked at the tablet of the Goddess of Mount Tai, he could not utter a word.
It’s not that I don’t want to say it, but that I can’t say it.
The Goddess of Mount Tai is in charge of all the foxes in the world. She is like a strict father and a kind mother, and her spiritual response is extraordinary. How could she allow a small fox demon to gossip and confuse right and wrong?
Either you tell the truth, or you don't tell the truth at all.
The fox trembled like a sieve, then suddenly realized what was happening. He kowtowed desperately and said, "Madam, please spare me! Madam, please spare me!"
The Queen Mother of Mount Tai would not even appear for Gong Mengbi, so how could she speak for this evil fox?
The evil fox kowtowed repeatedly, suddenly pulled out the arrow from its shoulder, and jumped down from the platform. When its feet landed on the ground, it burrowed into the soil, and the ground bulged as it fled away at a rapid speed.
Looking at it now, how can there be anything that is still lame?
Gong Mengbi said: "Kill him."
The yellow-robed ghost said, "Respect the law."
The ghost suddenly disappeared, and then suddenly appeared on the path that the evil fox had to take to perform his magic.
The yellow-robed ghost suppressed the earth's energy, and the evil fox bumped into the earth as hard as steel and could not move an inch.
The yellow-clothed ghost stretched out his hand and pressed.
The bulge created by the topography technique was pressed down, and the earth's energy in all directions merged, like iron plates pressing down on each other.
Without even a sound, the evil fox was trapped in the cave.
Only the blood slowly seeping out of the ground let the foxes know that he had been killed.
The yellow-robed ghost came back to report, and wherever he passed, the foxes gave way and trembled with fear.
Gong Mengbi nodded and let the yellow-clothed ghost return to its place.
He bowed to the tablet of the Taishan Goddess and said, "It's just a small matter, but it disturbed the Goddess."
Gong Mengbi pointed at the divine tablets and said, "This is the divine tablet of the Taishan Goddess, and this is the divine tablet of the Jade Fairy Goddess."
"As that evil fox said, perhaps you also have this question: Why am I a fox, but I have to speak for people? Why am I a fox, but I kill foxes for people?"
Gong Mengbi said, "In front of the Empress and the Goddess, I will not tell lies. I am not speaking for the people, but for the law and for morality."
"The Way of Heaven values life and does not discriminate based on species. When justice is at hand, it is not hindered by one's origin."
"The human world has its own laws, and the Heavenly Fox Court has its own. Fox laws forbid foxes from using evil methods to harm humans. Human laws forbid killing, stealing wives, and taking property. If we shield someone's crimes just because he's a fox, and watch him suffer when he's not a fox, then we can't call that the way of the immortals."
"He did not die by my hand, but by the law, by morality."
"This is the first thing I teach you. Remember it."
