Chapter 747: Encountering a Fox
Gong Mengbi turned and walked into the room, and a breeze lifted them both up.
"You two, come in and tell me in detail."
When I entered the fox house, I saw the boy holding the lamp with his big belly blowing air into the twelve curved floor lamps. With each blow, fireworks flowers bloomed on the twelve branches, illuminating the fox house brightly.
Seeing a stranger, the boy holding the lamp was a little shy. He went around behind the lamppost and disappeared.
Gong Mengbi sat down at the main table. The flame on the bean lamp looked like a dancing fox, graceful, cute and lovely.
Dr. Huang's letter was pressed beside him. He pointed and asked Shao Huzheng and Miao Huhui to sit down. He poured them two cups of tea. After they drank it all and frowned with bitterness, and calmed down their anxiety and urgency, he asked for details.
"Miao Hu Society, please tell me in detail."
Mr. Huang refilled their cups and stood aside to serve them.
Miao Huhui looked at the lotus seed core floating up and down in the cup, smacked his thigh, and said bitterly, "I wasn't careful enough."
Huziyuan in Xia Pi County is not on the mountain, but in the wild forest on the outskirts of Xia Pi City, adjacent to Sishui River. It is a manor.
Miao Hu would have some ambitions to live in seclusion in the city. When others went to see it, they only knew that it was Chengyang Manor and that Mr. Zhuang was a kind man who believed in the Goddess of Mount Tai.
Only people with real discerning eyes can tell that this is a fox farm, full of foxes and no living people.
Chengyang Manor had only a passing reputation among the common people, but it was actually quite inconspicuous. The wild forest was covered by an illusion, so unless someone stumbled upon it by mistake, no one could enter.
It was only the second year since the Miao Fox Association established the Fox Academy, and none of their fox disciples had yet gone out to fight.
It is now the hottest time of the year, and Miao Hu will send his fox son to the city to buy medicine, but he didn't want to offend the son of the Zhang family, a prestigious family in Xia Pi, on his way back.
Young Master Zhang was riding his horse when a fox turned out from a small path. In order to avoid the fox, Young Master Zhang reined in his horse too hastily, and the frightened horse threw him off.
The fox was also frightened by the frightened horse. Its tail fell off and it lost its mind. Even the medicinal herbs it bought were scattered on the ground and it didn't have time to pick them up. It hurriedly ran into the wild woods.
The fox's tail was seen by the young master of the Zhang family. He was shocked and scared. When two servants caught up with him, helped the young master up, and saw that he was not injured, and caught the frightened horse, the young master finally calmed down.
Young Master Zhang picked up the herbs on the ground and opened them. They were all herbs for cooling down heat and clearing away summer heat, such as hay, honeysuckle, lotus leaves, and coptis root. He asked, "Do you think foxes also need medicine?"
Although the two servants were called servants, they were both warriors with vigorous energy. After hearing what he said, they realized that they had encountered a fox.
"It's so hot, even a fox wouldn't be able to stand it. Sir, just throw the herbs here. If you don't get used to it, the strange thing will disappear on its own. Don't pay any attention to it."
But the young master of the Zhang family had never seen a fox spirit before, and he just thought it was novel and refused to leave, insisting on seeing the fox spirit for himself.
The two warriors had no choice but to tie their horses in the woods and hide in the bushes with the young master to feed mosquitoes.
When it was already quite dark and the fox had not returned to look for the medicine, the two servants advised, "Sir, the fox must have been frightened by the horse and is afraid to come out again."
"The fox spirit is very petty and holds grudges. Why bother provoking it?"
The young master of the Zhang family was spoiled and afraid of being bitten by mosquitoes, so he agreed after the two servants persuaded him briefly.
The three of them went back into the woods to get the horses, but when they came back, they found that the herbs they had been waiting for were gone.
Young Master Zhang clapped his hands excitedly and said, "The fox is back, it must be nearby!"
The two servants were afraid of something happening, so they had to coax him.
"Where can we find foxes in the dark? Since we know there are foxes here, why not come back another day?"
Miao Huhui sighed and said, "The young master of the Zhang family did go back that day, but he has been wandering around the wild forest from time to time since then."
"Fox got frightened that day and ran into the woods to recover before returning to look for medicine. He listened to the horses' breathing and knew they hadn't left. He waited until he had a chance to retrieve the herbs and came back to report to me. Although I knew it was a matter of caution, I didn't take it seriously. I just told Fox to go out as little as possible and not be seen."
"Who knew this kid would be so persistent? He took a few warriors with him to wander around in the woods when he had nothing better to do, and he even found his way into the Fox Courtyard."
The Zhang family is a prominent local family, and it is unknown where their ancestral blessings came from. Their eyes are very bright and are not obscured by the illusion.
The young master didn't find the fox spirit. It was almost dark when he accidentally saw the lights in the manor and came over with his warriors. He originally wanted to find out some information, but who knew he would get an unexpected reward.
As soon as they entered the village, they found several foxes standing up and carrying a thick book. When they saw them, they were frightened and ran away with the book.
"Don't run!" Young Master Zhang shouted.
The fox was unwilling to stay. It ran so fast that dust was raised on the ground, and warned as it ran: "Someone is breaking in! Someone is breaking in!"
Young Master Zhang ordered, "Stop them!"
Several warriors immediately went up to catch the fox. In order to avoid being caught, the fox had to abandon the fox book and crawl into the fox hole.
The warrior didn't catch the fox, but he took the fox book away and presented it to Young Master Zhang.
Young Master Zhang opened it and saw that it seemed to be some foreign language, maybe Sanskrit, heavenly script, or perhaps cloud seals and bird symbols written by a Taoist priest.
I had a hunch that this was a good thing, so I immediately kept it close to my body.
By the time Miao Fox Club realized something was wrong, it was already too late. He was only a ninth-rank fox club, and even if he rushed out, he couldn't subdue these warriors. He had no choice but to blow a cold wind, raising dust and flying stones to drive these people away.
Miao Huhui said shamefacedly, "I knew he stole the Fox Book, so I went to block him on the way back."
He first pretended to be a lost middle-aged traveler and asked Young Master Zhang to accompany him to the county town.
Young Master Zhang was quite willing to help, so he joined the traveler. The traveler was eloquent and told him several misrepresented stories.
Young Master Zhang had just snatched the rare book from the fox, and he was eager to talk, so he shared the matter with his companions.
The traveler asked, "Is there such a thing? I wonder if I can ever have a chance to read this wonderful book?"
Young Master Zhang took out the fox book and showed it to him. Just as he was about to touch it, Young Master Zhang suddenly set his eyes behind the traveler.
The traveler subconsciously looked back and saw that his fox tail was indeed exposed.
Miao Huhui said in frustration, "It's my fault for not learning the art well enough, and that young master Zhang was incredibly lucky. I stayed too close to him for too long, and his true form was exposed. I didn't even get the fox book back, and instead was chased by warriors all the way."
