Chapter 80 King Kang
If cultivation is merely the accumulation of magical powers, then humans will never be able to match the might of heaven and earth. The so-called "using the false to cultivate the true, refining the false to achieve the true" is about achieving perfection in one's own nature and maintaining one's innocence.
This doesn't mean that cultivating immortality requires giving up one's desires, but rather that one shouldn't indulge in them. If one can't achieve perfection in cultivation, then the more one cultivates, the more incomplete one becomes, and in the end, one will be nothing more than a moon in the water, a flower in the mirror, an empty dream.
The Skull God is a living example. How can a person who cannot reconcile with himself, cannot face his own heart, and cannot make up for his own shortcomings achieve anything in spiritual practice?
Gong Mengbi's two tails coiled the skull, and the skull turned around in his tails, getting smaller with each turn, and finally turned into a bone piece the size of a fingernail, which was hidden by Gong Mengbi under his fur.
The two-tailed red fox left the dry cave and followed the direction of the two big wild rats.
The two wild rat spirits had no idea that a cat was chasing them.
Even though Gong Mengbi wasted time talking to the Skull God, he was still able to catch up with the two big wild rats at a leisurely pace.
Two large wild rats carried the plump and huge Huangjing all the way to the deep mountains and old forests. The surrounding monsters saw it but did not care. Such scenes seemed to be commonplace, and no one even came to snatch it.
This made Gong Mengbi wonder if he had really made a mistake. Perhaps the two big wild rats were indeed carrying a piece of old ginger.
Gong Mengbi didn't want to scare the two big rats to death, so he didn't show up and followed them all the way to King Kang's territory.
King Kang did not live on a high mountain, but on a small hill not far from the river valley.
This small hill wasn't very tall, but rather gently sloping. It was covered in trees, but at first glance, they were all fruit trees. They were wild peaches, wild pears, hawthorns, chestnuts, plums, apricots, and even berries. Whether they looked good or not was beyond question, but they were definitely delicious.
Gong Mengbi stared into the darkness and saw a bonfire on the hill. On the bonfire was a copper tripod with boiling soup in it. The faint aroma of fish soup wafted through the darkness.
Next to the campfire sat a middle-aged man with a portly build, wearing gray clothes. His face was full of flesh, and his sleeves were rolled up, revealing his thick arms covered with thick body hair.
Such a rough man, however, was stirring the cauldron with a small spoon, occasionally adding some herbs and spices to the top, and then scooping up a spoonful of soup to taste it.
He wasn't afraid of the heat, but from his expression, you could tell he was very satisfied.
The two large wild rats carried the polygonatum to the campfire, placed it at the feet of the rough man, and then prostrated themselves on the ground, saying loudly, "I dug out a piece of old ginger from the ground. It's this big, it must be a delicious ingredient. I'm presenting it to King Kang to remove the fishy smell and relieve the greasiness."
King Kang picked up the piece of Polygonatum odoratum, laughed, and threw it back.
"You two idiots, this is Polygonatum sibiricum, not Alpinia officinalis."
"There's no need to trade him for treasures. He's a treasure in his own right. If you two share it, you'll both gain a lot of mana. Using it to make soup for me would be a waste of natural resources. I enjoy delicacies, not medicinal soups."
The two mice were overjoyed and shared the piece of polygonatum. They then flattered him, saying, "Your Majesty is kind and doesn't bully little demons. I don't know what polygonatum or alpinia officinalis are. But if we get other good ingredients in the future, we will definitely send them to Your Majesty for your appreciation."
King Kang cursed with a smile, "Get out of here, you two slippery rats."
The two mice, their intentions revealed, gave a fawning laugh and bid farewell to King Kang.
Gong Mengbi then realized that the two mice were not unfamiliar with Polygonatum sibiricum. They had clearly come to visit King Kang on the pretext that Polygonatum sibiricum and Alpinia officinalis looked similar.
Or maybe they originally wanted to offer Polygonatum sibiricum, but King Kang seemed to be more interested in Alpinia officinalis than Polygonatum sibiricum.
After the two rats left the hilltop, King Kang looked towards the shadows in the forest and asked, "Are you here to deliver food as well?"
A two-tailed red raccoon emerged from the darkness. "I've heard that King Kang is a man of profound virtue and kindness, so I've come to pay him a visit. I didn't know you were so kind, so I'm ashamed to come empty-handed."
King Kang glanced at him, nodded, and said, "I see. Then please come forward and have a chat."
Gong Mengbi looked at King Kang, and King Kang also looked at him.
King Kang was born with a plump figure, but beneath the fat lay powerful muscles. He wasn't particularly good-looking, resembling a butcher, but in reality, he was the second demon Gong Mengbi had ever seen that looked exactly like a human.
The first one is Granny Shi from Ruyun Peak, and the second one is him in front of him.
Even Xiangjun of Xiangzhuling hadn't completely transformed into a human form, but King Kang had. This meant that his cultivation was even greater than Xiangjun's.
Transforming into a human form is the only way for a monster to enter the sixth level.
If one does not have a human body as a foundation to move from the lower level to the middle level, it will be difficult to make any achievements in spiritual practice.
To transform into a human form requires not only great magical power, but also a deep understanding of people. On the one hand, it represents the advancement of Taoism, and on the other hand, it represents the budding of human nature.
To some extent, monsters that transform into human form can be called more human than humans.
For example, the Skull God may not be as good as King Kang in terms of being a human being, and is far inferior to Granny Shi.
King Kang looked at the cat in front of him and suddenly asked, "This can't be your true appearance, right? Although I can't see any flaws, I still feel like something is wrong."
Gong Mengbi laughed and said, "Excuse me, I just came from General Banyin's territory and I dare not reveal my true identity. I'm sorry to have embarrassed you."
Gong Mengbi exhaled a puff of smoke, which enveloped his body. The cat's form gradually dissipated like ink smudged by the wind, revealing the true form of the red fox, which then transformed into a young man in red.
King Kang took one look at him and couldn't help but gasp. "Friend, why did you become like this? Teach me. I look like this after my transformation, and I don't feel very happy about it."
Gong Mengbi said, "This is what I look like when I transform. I don't know how to teach you."
King Kang sighed regretfully, "I am also a handsome man among my tribe. Why is it that after transforming into a human, I am not the most handsome man among humans?"
Gong Mengbi couldn't help laughing: "Although King Kang is not a handsome man, he is a real great man. You are born with extraordinary bravery, so there is no need to be as weak as me."
This makes people feel comfortable.
King Kang said, "You can talk. Come, when the soup is ready, I'll give you a bowl."
