Chapter 249 Lu Family

After the agreement, Lu Hui continued to work at the dock, and Jiang Huaixu and Li Qiaoer found a temporary place for Lu's mother to live.

Compared to the bustling Huaizhou City, the area where Lu Hui's family lived could easily be called a slum. The people on the unkempt streets wore ordinary or even ragged clothing, and the houses were low and dilapidated, a world away from the vibrant streets of Liuguang Street.

If Lu Hui's family hadn't lived here, Jiang Huaixu and Li Qiaoer would never have imagined that there was such a place in Huaizhou City.

As the two of them searched their way there, it was Lu Yan who opened the door. She cautiously opened it only a crack and asked, "Who are you looking for?"

"We are here to treat your mother's illness at the request of your brother Lu Hui."

Lu Yan observed Jiang Huaixu and Li Qiaoer's attire with scrutiny, "How does my brother know you?"

Seeing that she didn't recognize her, Li Qiao'er hurriedly said, "It was my sister who saved your mother when she fainted in front of the door. Do you remember?"

In the room, Lu's mother said weakly, "Yan'er, let the two distinguished guests in. I recognize their voices..."

Lu Yan opened the door reluctantly and said, "Come in."

The two people and the cat walked into the house. The family of three were now squeezed into one room. The sleeping area could only be covered with a cloth. The furnishings in the room were very simple, and there was a hole in the roof.

"Go make some tea."

Lu's mother looked much more haggard, her lips were a little purple, and she was struggling to sit up while sitting on the bed. Jiang Huaixu hurried forward to help her up.

"Don't bother, we have other things to do. We came here to take your pulse and prescribe some medicine, and then we'll leave."

"How can that be? You two helped us once before and we haven't been able to repay you yet. Now we have to trouble you again this time..." She spoke hurriedly and suddenly started coughing.

Li Qiaoer stepped forward and patted her back. "Auntie, you're already bedridden, so why worry about this? Your son and daughter have their hands and feet, so let them worry about it. As long as you recover, your family of three will surely live a peaceful life."

Lu Yan, who was walking over with a teapot in her hand, had a look of embarrassment on her face when she heard this. She poured the tea a little roughly, and a lot of it splashed out.

Jiang Huaixu noticed Lu Yan's movements and said nothing more, "Auntie, I see you look like you've caught a cold. Let me take your pulse first."

After examining Lu's mother and leaving her a prescription, Jiang Huaixu gave her a few more instructions, and then the two of them and the cat left.

After the guests left, Lu's mother put one hand on her forehead and closed her eyes as if she was asleep, while Lu Yan stared at the poured tea in a daze.

"Mom, I..."

"Yan'er, it's time for you to grow up." Mother Lu said softly. She opened her eyes and looked at the roof, muttering, "Your father loved you before. He would stop you from saying anything to you. Now he's dead, and only your brother and I are left to protect you. Your mother is not well, and your brother doesn't want you to go out in public, so he takes on everything himself.

If mother were well, she could do some embroidery to supplement the family income. You're not good at needlework, but at least prepare some food for your brother. He's doing heavy work now, and he can't stand eating only bread. Can't you see that your brother can't even straighten his back when he comes home at night? Judging from their clothes, those two girls must be from good families. They treated mother twice and didn't even charge the consultation fees. What do you think they want from us? Why are you so angry?"

Lu Yan felt both wronged and embarrassed by her mother's words. Tears fell from her eyes as she sobbed, "Before, I saw that they were dressed worse than us, but today they came to our house wearing new clothes made of fine materials. It's obvious that they came to our house to make a fool of themselves! Mom, you are still speaking for them!"

“You… cough cough cough!!”

A burst of heart-wrenching coughs seemed to shake the dilapidated house down. Lu Yan panicked and rushed to the bed, shouting, "Mother!!"

Mother Lu was coughing so hard that she couldn't breathe. The color of her lips gradually darkened, as if she would faint at any moment.

Lu Yan was at a loss for a moment. Fear and guilt made her cry. When she remembered that the two people who had just arrived should not have walked far, Lu's mother had already passed away.

She ran out of the door crying and happened to bump into Jiang Huaixu and Li Qiaoer who had rushed back. She sat down on the ground, pointing at the wide-open door, speechless.

Fu Tuan had already told Jiang Huaixu about the conversation between the mother and daughter after they left. Jiang Huaixu didn't know what to say for a moment, so he could only hand the person over to Li Qiaoer and ran into the house with Fu Tuan.

After checking, it was found that Lu's mother was so angry that she fainted because her heart was not in good condition. Jiang Huaixu immediately took out a fast-acting heart pill from the space and fed it to Lu's mother, and then slowly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

She is very strong and can easily break someone's ribs if she is not careful. She would not use this method unless it is necessary, and if she does, she has to control the strength.

After a while, Lu's mother took a deep breath and woke up.

Li Qiaoer also walked in with Lu Yan.

"Mom - I was wrong, Yan'er was wrong..." Lu Yan knelt in front of the bed and cried bitterly.

Lu's mother turned away exhausted, not wanting to say another word.

"Ms. Lu, don't cry anymore. Your mother needs to rest now." Jiang Huaixu said and winked at Li Qiaoer. Li Qiaoer nodded slightly and helped Lu Yan out of the house.

When the two of them left, Lu's mother fell asleep. On the way, Li Qiaoer couldn't understand why Lu's mother suddenly fainted again.

"Ah Xu, he fainted as soon as we left. It can't be because of us, right?"

This is really hard to explain.

"No, it's their family matter. It shouldn't concern us. I don't know if it will affect Lu Hui's decision."
