People come and go on Zhongli Bridge, and from time to time some people stop there to watch with interest the dragon boats training intensively in the river under the bridge. Every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, a dragon boat race is held in the capital. This year, the race is even bigger in order to pray for good weather, peace and prosperity for the country and the people.
The guards beside Chaohua stood beside the two of them, and they took the opportunity to come to the railing and look around curiously.
Chaohua was usually kept under strict supervision, and Chen Huaixu had never seen the scene of ancient boat racing.
After watching for a while, they both lost interest. It wasn't a formal boat race, they just watched for the novelty, and soon they wanted to get off the bridge and explore somewhere else.
Chen Huaixu turned around, only to find that Chaohua beside him suddenly let go of her hand, and then a scream came to his ears.
She immediately turned around and looked back, only to see Chaohua falling backwards with a look of fear on her face. The rushing river behind her was silent, as if waiting for her arrival.
Chen Huaixu rushed over and grabbed Chao Hua's hand without thinking. Chao Hua's whole body was hanging in the air, precarious.
The area behind him was crowded with people and the guards were scattered.
Chaohua, who was hanging in the air, had tears in her eyes after the shock. She knew that Chen Huaixu could not hold on for too long, but she did not hear her calling for help. She opened her mouth to shout, but suddenly found that her body was slowly rising. Finally, with the help of a great force, she easily climbed over the railing and came to the solid bridge surface.
After escaping from danger, she didn't react for a moment. If she was not mistaken, it was only Chen Huaixu who pulled her up, right?
"Hurry up!" Chen Huaixu suffered from his short stature and could not see clearly what was happening on the bridge. He just felt that there seemed to be more and more people. He felt something was wrong and took Chaohua's hand and walked in the direction they came from.
Fortunately, she was very strong and she pulled Chaohua like a calf to make way through the crowd. Soon they reached the edge of the crowd.
Chao Hua, who was following behind her, was stunned, not knowing where Chen Huaixu got so much strength from his small body.
After looking around, she was just about to take Chaohua to a less crowded place when she heard someone shout, "Everyone, hurry home! The plague has spread to the capital along the river!"
Her expression changed drastically as she looked at the man. She saw that he looked and dressed ordinary, but the calluses on his hands and his walking posture revealed that he was a martial artist.
As soon as these words came out, the crowd boiled over again.
Chen Huaixu looked at the person deeply. She was taking Chaohua with her and her guards were not around, so she could only settle Chaohua down first.
The two of them came to a less crowded place. As soon as they stopped, she heard Chao Hua say in a panic, "Mingyi, did you hear that? Someone said there's a plague in the capital!"
"I heard." Shen Huaixu nodded. "The doctors at Jishiditang have never diagnosed someone infected with the plague. This matter still needs to be verified. Don't panic. Were you injured just now? How did you fall?"
Those few words calmed Chaohua down instantly. She took a deep breath, still in shock, and shook her head. "No, I was just a little scared. I don't know how I fell. I just felt someone pushing my shoulder. It might be because there were so many people. How come you are so strong?"
As Shen Huaixu searched the crowd for the man, he joked, "I did a lot of work when I was young, so I learned this."
Chaohua thought Chen Huaixu was serious, and she felt a strange pang of bitterness in her heart. Just as she was about to say something, she saw Chen Huaixu looking around and suddenly pulling her towards a teahouse: "Something doesn't seem right. Let's go to the second floor of the teahouse and take a look."
Entering the teahouse, Shen Huaixu threw a piece of silver to the waiter and said, "Please clear out the private room on the southeast side of the second floor."
The waiter was blinded by money and asked another waiter to take the guests in the private room to another private room. Chen Huaixu waved his hand to let him go down, and the window of the private room was opened so that the view on the bridge could be seen at a glance.
Seeing her staring at the bridge motionlessly, Chaohua followed her gaze. The bridge was full of heads, and shouts and curses could be heard from time to time, but she could not see anything else except the surging crowd.
Only one thing, the words that man just said, made the crowd even more panicked.
She murmured, "Did that person shout that on purpose?"
Shen Huaixu pondered something, shaking her head in silence. Her eyesight was good, and she could see that a group of people were taking advantage of the situation in the crowd, deliberately stirring up trouble and causing outrage. Everyone was desperate to get home, and those at the back, unaware of what was happening inside, simply pushed forward. Those inside couldn't escape, and the dispute was gradually escalating.
It can be seen that the current situation is deliberately directed by a certain force.
"Princess, please wait here for me... Forget it, you come with me. We have to find a way to call someone."
Chaohua nodded quickly. After what happened just now, she really didn't dare to stay alone.
Chen Huaixu took Chaohua with him, but he was not sure whether Chaohua's near-fall into the water just now was intentional or unintentional, so he felt more at ease taking her with him.
The two men rushed to the intersection and found a policeman. The policeman had obviously noticed the commotion among the crowd and was now holding a gong and shouting at the top of his lungs to prevent people at the intersection from going to the bridge.
"Brother officer, do you have any way to contact Jingzhao Prefecture?"
"Two young ladies, please go home quickly and don't delay anything." When the officer saw that Chao Hua and Shen Huaixu were dressed like rich or noble people, his hoarse voice softened a little. After dealing with the two of them, he was busy evacuating the crowd.
Shen Huaixu was anxious and immediately revealed the identities of the two people. "This is Princess Chaohua. Just now, Princess Chaohua was almost pushed into the river by a villain. The villain is now among the group of people on the bridge. This princess orders you to quickly ask Jingzhao Yin Shen to send the imperial guards!"
The officers were so frightened by the sight of a princess and a county lady that their legs began to tremble and they wanted to kneel down.
Shen Huaixu said with a cold face, "Why are you kneeling? Go quickly!"
After saying that, she snatched the gong from the officer's hand.
The officers had no choice but to run away.
The guards around Chaohua also came over at this time and knelt on the ground as soon as they arrived.
Shen Huaixu's eyes lit up, and he said to Chaohua, "How about borrowing your people?"
Chao Hua didn't know what to say. All these guards were no match for Shen Huaixu alone. She glared at the leading guard and said angrily, "Do whatever you want with me."
Chen Huaixu immediately called on the guards to go to various intersections to stop passers-by. These guards had uglier faces than each other. They stood at the intersection with knives in hand, which was a sure-shot way to dissuade people from coming forward. If they met someone brave enough, they would flash the silver knives at their waists, and no one would dare to confront them with the knives.
The situation was quickly brought under control.
All that remained was to evacuate the bridge.
Shen Huaixu felt that the incident at Zhongli Bridge was no accident. Could it be that the mastermind behind it was simply trying to cause panic among the people? What was the intention of the group of people who had stirred up trouble on the bridge?
