Final remarks
I've finished the book, and after taking a break for two days, I'll come back to chat with you all.
To be honest, I didn't think this book would be so long at first.
The initial idea for this book was just as I said in my remarks before it was put on the shelves. I like Total War, Hearts of Iron, Stellaris, and Warhammer 40k; I like the military confrontations in the style of World War I and World War II; and I have some experience in farming literature, so I combined these things together and created this book.
From this perspective, I actually wrote this book quite capriciously, and it is a product of my personal interest.
Thank God, the results were okay, at least higher than I initially expected. I thought no one would read it.
It can be said to be a Warhammer fanfiction, but in order to avoid being a fanfiction, it deliberately reduces many of the original settings, and is not like the most popular Warhammer fanfictions that mainly write the stories between the most attractive Primarchs;
Although it is not fan fiction, the general flavor, structure, and most importantly, the settings of the Space Marines and the Human Empire all refer to many things, and it will attract readers who don't read fan fiction.
It's a case of pleasing neither side.
I'm quite satisfied with the current results (around 5,000 orders).
Because the book's origins were primarily personal, I initially didn't plan to write this much. The original plan was to finish the Iron Armor War, where Gu Hang became a powerful local figure with his own warband, a small empire, and then the Cataclysm, where the empire's central government could no longer control it. That would be the end of the book.
When the time really came, I thought I would be criticized to death if I ended it like this, and besides, there was still something to write after the Cataclysm, so I reorganized the outline and continued.
Actually, on reflection, this wasn't necessarily a good choice, because as I was writing, something started to feel off. The book's structure, the original setting, had already been finalized, and while I'd thought I'd come up with a lot of new ideas later on, there wasn't much freshness, and writing it was a struggle.
The Alliance has grown in size, and the scope of the expedition has also expanded. The seemingly grand Star Sea Expedition is actually very empty when written. It feels like every war is a replica of the Ironclad War...
I also thought about changing the perspective and writing more about micro-level people and events, but that pace is too slow; returning to the main line to move forward is too macro, and it will be more like a war report or a government work report.
Very awkward.
But the book has reached this point, so it must be completed no matter what.
No matter how bad the ending is, it is always better than abortion or a bad ending.
Besides, this ending isn't bad at all, as it essentially completes everything we envisioned. The empire is unified after the catastrophe, Gu Hang's alliance merges with the empire, and he's crowned co-emperor.
Looking back, I am quite satisfied overall.
3.46 million words, it tells the story of Gu Hang's journey from a powerless planetary governor to conquering the sea of stars and ultimately leading the human empire to revival!
The whole book at least satisfies my original intention of creation.
More importantly, I hope this book also meets everyone's expectations.
That’s all the story about the planets. Now let me talk about my personal plans for the future.
I've been updating this for two and a half years now, with the occasional leave and even criticism for being short, but I've persevered and maintained a daily update. My work isn't exactly easy, and I'm considered a key employee of the company, so I often work overtime and travel. Fortunately, I usually get a nap at noon, so I can stay up late at night to finish writing the update.
But doing this for a long time completely messed up my biological clock. My physical examinations used to be fine, but in the past two years, as I've gotten older, stayed up late every day, and sat for long periods of time without exercise, all my indicators have started to go awry.
My blood lipids and serum uric acid levels were high, I had fatty liver, a liver cyst, and kidney stones...
It shouldn't be a serious problem. I won't need to update later when I'm free. I need to take some time to adjust my body.
At the very least, adjust your sleep schedule and try to get seven or eight hours of sleep every night!
Spend more time with your family, play those games you missed, and finish reading those novels you’ve been saving.
In short, the general estimate is three months to six months of rest.
But please rest assured, I won't be playing around. During my break, my main task is to prepare a new book.
Write the setting, write the outline, think of several beginnings and story routes, and strive to make them even more complete than what is prepared in this book!
Speaking of the new book, I now have some vague ideas that I would like to share with you.
The first one will be a farming article. I have some experience in writing this type of farming management, so I don’t plan to give up the skills I am good at.
But it should not be farming like a force or a regime, but more like running an organization or an institution.
Could it be an academy? A knightly order? A mercenary group? A church? ...I haven't decided on the specifics yet, but from this, I can roughly tell that the new book's worldview background should be fantasy.
There will be some DND elements, Warcraft elements, Warhammer elements, Harry Potter elements, Victorian steampunk and medieval religious elements... But to be honest, writing fantasy is indispensable. :-D
There will be military warfare elements, but the theme should be on the upgrade of individual power.
I've written a lot of settings, but they're mostly conceptual, and I'm still deciding and choosing the right material. But judging by the current prototype, it's already quite complex and feels very interesting, so I'm quite confident.
Combining all the above, the label of the whole work can be roughly: a novel about farming, management and organizational power in a fantasy background, with the unique setting of individual strength upgrade and power system as selling points, and a complex world view!
After finishing Planets, I've summarized many aspects that I'm satisfied with, and I've also learned a lot from the things that I wasn't satisfied with. I hope, and I'm confident, that the next book will be even better than this one!
Well, everyone, see you in the next book!
