Chapter Seventeen: Jiajia, the Fast Food Restaurant Owner

Inside Jiajia Fast Food Restaurant, the owner, who was checking the accounts at the cashier, noticed something was wrong with the accounts.

Last week, 217 chicken leg bento boxes were sold, but so far this week, only 102 have been sold.

Did a new store opening nearby attract some customers with its big promotion?

The proprietress walked out of the shop and looked around.

There were no opening flower baskets, nor any paper scraps left after the cannon salute. It's really strange that my sales have suddenly dropped so much without any new store openings.

After returning to the cashier with a belly full of questions, I suddenly heard two employees chatting inside the store.

“These days, there seem to be far fewer migrant workers coming to our door. Normally, there would be at least ten or thirty or forty at lunchtime, but these days there are only two or three.”

"It's best if they don't come. Every time they come, they make the area in front of the store dusty. It must happen eight hundred times a day."

Migrant worker? Worker?

The proprietress walked out of the shop again and looked towards the construction site entrance diagonally opposite. She saw a group of people gathered under the shade of a tree on the right side of the entrance, each carrying a bag of boxed lunches.

Under the shade of the trees on the left, workers were squatting in twos and threes. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that they were not enjoying the cool shade, but eating boxed lunches.

After a slight hesitation, the proprietress walked straight towards the right side of the construction site entrance. Before she even got close, she felt dust billowing up at the entrance and lightly covered her mouth and nose with her hand.

The workers, who had gathered together, dispersed with their boxed lunches. The proprietress then realized that the group surrounded by workers was actually a small stall selling boxed lunches.

A bamboo pole was tied to the tricycle, and a whiteboard was hung on the pole, with the menu of the boxed lunches written on it.

'Such a beat-up tricycle, yet they manage to prepare so many dishes; quite a variety!'

The proprietress muttered a complaint to herself, and taking advantage of the few customers, she approached the tricycle and peered at the boxed meals in the styrofoam box.

These days, many female workers have come to buy boxed lunches, but this is the first time I've seen a woman who doesn't look like she works on a construction site showing interest in the boxed lunches he sells.

Perhaps they're from one of the nearby villages.

Xu An didn't think much of it. Having new customers was always a good thing; maybe he could actually hire someone else in a few days.

He picked up a boxed lunch and placed it in front of the proprietress, showing her the food inside one by one, and finally said, "Eight yuan a serving, want one?"

The proprietress looked at the overflowing boxed lunches and was internally ranting.

"Is this insane? Eight yuan for so much food, including a whole serving of braised pork. This kid isn't here to make money, he's here to do charity!"

"With this menu and these prices, I'm definitely losing money. I won't be able to keep it up for long. Let him be cocky for a few days. Once he goes out of business or raises his prices, he'll still have to come to my shop for chicken leg rice."

After waving her hand to indicate that she didn't need it, the proprietress gracefully swayed her slender figure and left.

Xu An calmly put away the boxed lunch. That's how business is. There are successes and failures. Success or failure is normal. Just keep a calm mind.

Xu Dongliang has been working at the Zijing Garden construction site since it started, so he naturally knows the owner of Jiajia Fast Food Restaurant. He even ate there once, but after being verbally abused by the staff, he never went back.

"Anzi, do you know who that woman was just now?"

"who?"

“Hey.” Xu Dongliang raised his chin and gestured to the other side of the street: “She’s the owner of Jiajia Fast Food Restaurant. Before you set up your stall, her chicken leg boxed meals were selling very well.”

Following Xu Dongliang's signal, Xu An looked across the street and indeed saw the woman from before walk into Jiajia Fast Food Restaurant.

This means they've realized they're being robbed of their business and are now assessing the situation.

After reminding Xu An, Xu Dongliang was about to leave when he suddenly remembered something.

"Anzi, do you have a health certificate?"

Upon hearing this, Xu An couldn't help but slap the back of his head hard.

I was so focused on setting up a stall that I forgot about something so important.

Any business related to food, from five-star hotels to roadside stalls, requires a health certificate. This is for the sake of both the health of the business owners and the health and safety of their customers.

Then he thought of something else. In his later life, he was very interested in setting up a street stall for a period of time, and he specifically looked up some of the permits and licenses required for doing so.

In addition to the health certificate, there is another document, which is a temporary stall permit, a business permit specifically for roadside stalls.

I don't know if they have temporary stall permits at this time; I'll have to ask the urban management office.

Thinking of this, he casually asked, "Uncle Dongliang, do you know anyone who works in the urban management department?"

"What's wrong? Afraid of being kicked out?"

"No, I just wanted to ask if I need any permits or licenses to set up a roadside stall. If so, I'll get them done at the same time. That way, they won't use this to cause me trouble later." Xu An pointed to the restaurant across the street.

He wasn't just going to set up his lunchbox stall for a few days; he planned to keep it up long-term.

If a business continues to thrive here, it's bound to make the restaurants across the street jealous.

If someone trips you up because you didn't have a health certificate or a temporary stall permit, you'll suffer a huge loss.

"I'll ask around for you and give you an answer tomorrow."

"Thank you, Uncle Dongliang."

"You brat, you're making a big deal out of this with your uncle." Uncle Dongliang slapped Xu An on the back of the head and strode away.

After closing up shop, Xu An and Xu Heping went to the city hospital together.

After telling the nurse they needed to apply for a health certificate, the nurse took out two documents from a folder and handed them to them. These documents contained the information on the examinations required for obtaining a health certificate.
