When Xu An was delivering food yesterday, he witnessed the surging crowds. There were at least tens of thousands of people visiting the exhibition at the convention center.
With so many people, even if there are five other hotels, preparing 500 servings shouldn't leave us unable to sell them all. If we really can't sell them all, then we'll prepare 300 servings tomorrow; if that still doesn't work, then we'll prepare 150; if we still can't sell them all, then what's the point of setting up a stall? Wouldn't it be better to use that energy to do something else?
Xu An now feels like he's gotten too big for his britches and isn't as grounded anymore. He remembers how happy he was when he could sell thirty boxed lunches a day in the beginning. Now, he's selling over a hundred a day, and he's starting to complain.
Alas, human beings! They are so fickle and never satisfied!
Xu's Fast Food Restaurant operated much the same as yesterday, with the only difference being that Aunt He had indeed brought in four more retired friends, led by Xu Lili, to form an independent assembly line for packing boxed meals. Although the number of boxed meals increased by 500 compared to yesterday, the addition of four people allowed them to complete the packing task ten minutes earlier than yesterday.
After lunch, the personnel arrangements were exactly the same as yesterday. Xu An and Wang Datou were still the only two going to the convention center. However, today only Wang Datou was responsible for coordinating with the convention center. As soon as the car stopped, Xu An borrowed a small cart from the staff and carried 500 boxed meals to the designated dining area in the convention center in two trips, setting up the stall.
Xu An quickly set up his stall all by himself, and the banners on it were very eye-catching. Like other fast food restaurants, Xu's Fast Food Restaurant simply had a tablecloth with the hotel's logo printed on it. What set him apart was that he also had a makeshift storefront with a couplet. The left side read "Contracting Company Employee Meal Services," the right side read "Citywide Delivery for 50 Cents," and the banner read "Interested in Further Discussion."
The staff member in charge of this area in the preparatory team looked at Xu An's red-and-black couplet with a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth. You could say he violated the rules, but there was no such restriction in the rules; you could also say he didn't violate the rules, but the style of his stall was so out of place with the other stalls, it even felt a bit jarring.
The staff member's hands, clasped behind his back, seemed restless, seriously considering whether to ask Xu An to take all the items away. But after thinking it over, he decided against it, deciding to observe the visitors' reactions later. If anyone complained, he could simply have Xu An remove them immediately.
Xu's Fast Food Restaurant wasn't the first shop to arrive at the convention center, but it was the first to finish setting up. After setting up, Xu An pulled out a folding chair meant for fishermen from a pile of boxes, sat down contentedly, and pulled out his phone to surf the internet. Compared to the other hotel staff frantically working around the clock, Xu An seemed rather relaxed.
The Jinxiu Hotel's stall was right next to Xu's Fast Food Restaurant. Wang Fulong, with his extensive experience in setting up stalls, quickly set it up with his apprentice, Lu Ziyue. After setting up the stall, Wang Fulong mysteriously took two folding chairs out of a box and handed one of them to his apprentice, Lu Ziyue. This was a convenient and useful item he had seen after spending several days in the park; it took up little space, was lightweight, comfortable to sit on, and easy to carry.
I pulled out a chair, sat down, enjoyed the air conditioning, and played on my phone. Putting everything else aside, this was definitely more comfortable than being in the park.
Unlike Wang Fulong's leisurely demeanor, Lu Ziyue looked preoccupied. Although he forced himself to maintain a professional smile, he couldn't hide his worry. He was also scrolling through his phone, but his eyes kept glancing at his master, Wang Fulong.
"What's wrong? Just say what you want to say. Don't look at me with such disgusting eyes. It's giving me goosebumps." Wang Fulong felt a little uncomfortable under Lu Ziyue's gaze, so he reluctantly put down his phone and decided to listen to what his apprentice had to say.
"Master, have we been ostracized?" Lu Ziyue hesitated for a moment before finally voicing the doubt that had been lingering in his heart for days, his tone full of uncertainty.
“Yes.” Wang Fulong nodded without any hesitation and admitted, “Isn’t it obvious? After that person took office, I was assigned to run around outside.”
"Also, don't call me 'Master' anymore in the shop. They were only targeting me, but you don't understand. You keep calling me 'Master' all the time, making them dislike you. That's why they sent you here to sit on the sidelines with me." Wang Fulong's tone was full of disappointment, and he tapped Lu Ziyue's forehead hard with his finger, leaving two deep red marks.
"You've always been my mentor. From the moment I entered this hotel, you've been the one guiding me and teaching me how to work. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to keep going," Lu Ziyue muttered in rebuttal, rubbing his head. As he spoke, he moved back a few steps, chair and all, as if afraid that Wang Fulong's fingers would poke a few more red marks on his forehead.
Xu An was originally sitting in the center of his stall playing on his phone, but after hearing Wang Fulong and Lu Ziyue's conversation, his ears perked up. However, the noise in the venue was too loud, and he couldn't hear clearly. So Xu An quietly moved his chair, then moved it again, and then moved it again, until he was unknowingly behind the two of them, able to hear their entire conversation.
At first, Xu An listened with interest, but when they started cursing the company leaders, he couldn't hold back any longer and joined their conversation. The two didn't notice Xu An joining in and continued their scathing critique of capitalists' inhumanity, each adding their own points.
