Chapter Thirty-Four: Snatching Food from a Tiger's Mouth

Xu An's eyes suddenly lit up when he thought of this university.

College students are the best consumer group in the world!

Xu An had also attended university and was very familiar with the food in university cafeterias.

You might ask how highly skilled the chefs in university cafeterias are? Well, not really, but they're definitely above average.

In addition, the low price makes it attractive not only to students, but also to office workers and nearby residents.

However, the Shanghai Maritime Academy is a semi-closed management school. Teachers can only enter and exit with their school badges, and outsiders are completely prohibited from entering.

The comprehensive university that Xu An attended was completely open, and anyone could freely enter and leave the school.

Every day at lunchtime, I see many office workers in suits, retired elderly people in vests and flip-flops, and preschool children aged 0 to 6 eating in the cafeteria.

However, the food in the cafeteria can only meet the students' basic needs for survival, not their desire for gourmet food.

If you want to eat something different and better, you need to go to the food street near the school gate.

This food street is usually made up of small vendors and a few restaurants, with barbecue stalls mostly located at the end of the street.

From breakfast to lunch, dinner, late-night snacks, and street food, everything is arranged for you, with delicacies from all over the country.

As Xu An was lost in his memories, the group of young people who had been shoving each other at the street corner seemed to have finally reached a consensus and started walking towards the snack street where Xu An was.

"When did a food street appear here? It looks like there's a lot of stuff."

"There's pan-fried tofu over there, I want to eat that."

"Wow, this dessert stall looks pretty good."

"There's also a fried food stall over there, and the selection is more complete than the ones near the school."

As they chatted and strolled around, they soon arrived at Xu An's boxed lunch stall.

"Eight yuan for a boxed lunch?" One of them noticed Xu An's boxed lunch stall and asked, "Boss, what kind of dishes do you have in your boxed lunches?"

"Steamed pork with rice flour, crispy fried mushrooms, tomato and egg with frozen mung bean soup, one boxed lunch is eight yuan, want one?" Xu An took out a boxed lunch from the styrofoam box and showed the dishes inside to the group.

Upon hearing this, everyone turned to look, crowding around Xu An's stall.

What kind of meat is this steamed pork with rice flour made of?

What kind of mushroom is "crispy fried mushroom"?

"This three dishes and one soup only cost eight yuan?"

After receiving Xu An's affirmative answer, the group quickly began to make their own plans.

A meal consisting of one meat dish and one vegetable dish costs five yuan in the cafeteria, so eight yuan doesn't seem too expensive. Moreover, the portion size of this meal is quite generous; I just picked it up and it weighed almost three kilograms.

While they hesitated, two workers who had finished work later walked straight over, picked up a boxed lunch, paid for it, and squatted down in the shade to eat.

After hesitating for a moment, the group moved closer to take a closer look at the contents of the boxed lunches.

I couldn't see very clearly just now because it was through a plastic box, and there was some fog inside the box.

As soon as I leaned closer, I saw the worker pick up a piece of steamed pork with rice flour.

Chopsticks are held in the middle of the steamed pork, and the two ends of the pork sway slightly in the air, with a few drops of crystal-clear soup dripping from the tail of the pork.

The worker opened his mouth wide and ate the whole piece of meat, then shoveled two mouthfuls of rice into his mouth, squinted his eyes contentedly, and looked blissfully happy.

Before they could even swallow their food, the workers' chopsticks were already reaching for the crispy fried mushrooms.

The moment the chopsticks touched the mushroom, the onlookers seemed to hear a crisp 'crack' sound from the crispy batter coating on the outside of the mushroom.

After swallowing the food in his mouth, he put a large chopstickful of crispy fried mushrooms into his mouth, making a series of 'crunch' sounds.

The group watched the workers eat for a while, until the workers finished their last sip of mung bean soup and let out a satisfied burp. Only then did the group realize what was happening and simultaneously wipe their mouths.

Xu An looked at the group and felt somewhat confused. Were these people not quite right in the head?

After asking him what dishes were in his lunchbox, he actually went to watch other people eat, looking completely absorbed in the meal.

How strange and wonderful!

Unaware of Xu An's inner turmoil, the group returned to Xu An's stall before the workers could get up.

He picked up a boxed lunch with his right hand and reached into his pocket with his left hand to take out some change and hand it to Xu An.

The above actions were performed in one smooth motion, without the slightest hesitation.

When the group arrived, they were looking for a restaurant and didn't realize how far they had walked.

Now that I'm going back, I realize how long and far this journey has been, as if it will never end.

When they finally got back to the dormitory, they were soaking wet from head to toe, as if they had been pulled out of the water.

I put the lunchbox on the table, took a shower, and changed my clothes; finally, it felt a bit cooler.

But because of the heat, my appetite had been mostly gone, and even though I felt very hungry, I had no desire to eat anything.

But the fact that the workers seemed to enjoy their meal so much just now made him want to open the lunchbox and take a look.

"How about we have some mung bean soup first? Mung bean soup is good for cooling down and reducing internal heat; maybe it'll give us an appetite."

The man picked up the mung bean soup on top of the lunchbox and was immediately surprised.

The mung bean soup was even a little cool.

I took a small sip, and along with the soup, a few mung beans went into my mouth. They had been cooked until soft and melted on my tongue.
