Li Yingcai and the boy with the buzz cut were both sent to the police station. The difference was that the former was detained as a criminal, while the latter was taken as a witness.
From the moment he entered the interrogation room, Li Yingcai remained silent no matter what questions were asked.
However, new discoveries were made regarding the physical evidence brought back with them.
There were five ID cards with different names inside the backpack, all with identical photos.
Two of the photos are of Li Yingcai, and the other three are of a man with a goatee.
They recognized this person; he was an old traditional Chinese medicine doctor at the clinic opposite the Shanghai Library.
After returning home, the old Chinese medicine doctor lay in bed unable to fall asleep, thinking that perhaps staying with the short-haired boy would make him feel more at ease.
But after calling out several times at the door, there was no response. When they pushed the door open, they only saw the blankets pulled back and the empty bed.
Just then, a knocking sound came from the main entrance downstairs.
The old Chinese medicine doctor walked to the window and looked down, only to find four or five law enforcement officers in uniform standing at his door!
He didn't know why they came to see him, but so many people coming to see him late at night must mean something important!
Under the cover of the knocking, he returned to his room, took out a pre-packed bag from under the wardrobe, slung it over his shoulder, and ran to the back door of the house.
As soon as the door opened, two people in uniforms were seen.
The father and son were indeed father and son; one remained silent in the interrogation room, and the other remained silent in the conference room.
But in the face of absolute evidence, all resistance is meaningless.
When the old Chinese medicine doctor saw the five ID cards placed in the abandoned house, he knew that his son had been arrested and that he had been convicted of harboring a criminal.
The only saving grace was that his actions after arriving in Haishi went unnoticed.
The old Chinese medicine doctor immediately deflated, slumped into his chair, and recounted his condition in detail.
What he didn't see was that the camera directly above the conference room had somehow rotated and was pointing straight at him, flashing red light incessantly.
In the interrogation room, the interrogator provided Li Yingcai with a tablet.
At first, Li Yingcai didn't know what it was for, but soon he saw the old Chinese medicine doctor appear on the screen, explaining everything in detail and pushing a lot of the blame onto himself.
Li Yingcai panicked. He knew that his father was going to give up on him and didn't intend to carry on as a burden anymore!
"I want to report him! I want to report my dad! He doesn't know anything about infertility! It's all a lie, a whole show he staged himself! All those couples who went to him for infertility treatment were carrying his children! All of them were his children!"
Li Yingcai's voice rang out in the interrogation room, so hoarse, sharp, and high-pitched.
His face began to contort, a glistening drop of saliva spilled from the corner of his twitching mouth, and his whole body began to tremble from his fingers.
The interrogator sensed something was wrong with his condition and immediately dialed 120.
Just then, police sirens sounded outside the door, accompanied by shouts of "Quick, save them!" and "This way!"
The door to the conference room where the traditional Chinese medicine doctor was located was also pushed open. The person who opened the door waved to the law enforcement officer in charge of the doctor and whispered a few words in his ear.
The moment the door opened, the old Chinese medicine doctor saw several medical staff walk by, followed by several police officers carrying a stretcher, on which was his son, who weighed over 300 pounds!
Upon seeing the law enforcement officers return, the old Chinese medicine doctor became anxious. He jumped up from his seat, grabbed their hand, and asked in a panic, "Was my son just carried out? What happened to him? Why did he suddenly fall ill?"
The law enforcement officer did not answer his question. Instead, he stared intently into the old Chinese medicine doctor's eyes, and an inexplicable aura emanated from him.
"Your son just reported you. Now you have a chance to confess all the illegal and criminal acts you've committed!"
The law enforcement officers' voices were not loud, but every word they uttered was firm and powerful.
The confrontation between Sister Wang and others and the law enforcement officers, as well as the commotion when they were taken away, caused quite a stir, and the news quickly spread throughout the construction site.
Zhao Peng, the logistics supervisor who was in charge of liaising with Sister Wang, was woken up by a phone call just as he fell asleep.
After hearing the news, he felt terrible and couldn't sleep.
He had strongly recommended Sister Wang, but now that she's in trouble, he's not getting any credit for it.
Most importantly, all the documents and files that Sister Wang had were taken away as evidence, so he now has no chance to destroy the contract.
If the company finds out he tampered with the contract, he'll be finished too.
However, before Zhao Peng could take any action, the group's internal disciplinary department had already been mobilized.
They are responsible for investigating whether any members of the group were involved in the case or profited from it.
“The canteen had been purchasing ingredients from Xingwang Wholesale Market since it opened, until ten days ago when it suddenly switched to purchasing ingredients from Anxin Food Processing Company.”
"The accounts are correct; these ingredients were purchased at the standard purchase price."
“I found a flyer from Anxin Food Processing Company.”
"The price doesn't match the receipt; the receipt is fake."
"Brother Fang, the price in this contract is different from the price we signed with the company!"
Upon hearing this, the other three people put down their work and gathered in front of the computer, comparing the differences between the two contracts word by word.
"The contract signed by Sister Wang stipulates a meal standard of five yuan per meal, but the contract submitted by the person in charge of the company stipulates a meal standard of eight yuan per meal."
