After washing the dishes, the aunt returned to her room and saw her husband lounging on the bed playing cards. This only fueled her frustration. She locked the door and angrily snatched the phone from his hand.
"Hey, hey, what are you doing? This game isn't over yet, we're about to win, give me the phone back." My uncle reached out to take the phone back several times, but my aunt dodged him each time.
“You didn’t say a word when your mom was talking about me during dinner, and you seemed to be enjoying your meal.” My aunt plopped down next to my uncle and complained, “Having a baby is my own business. I’ve been to the hospital for checkups several times and everything is fine. But when I ask you to get checked, your mom doesn’t want to, and she insists it’s my problem.”
The aunt became increasingly angry as she spoke, and grabbed her husband's clothes, trying to pull him off the bed.
"No, nothing I say today will do. You have to come to the hospital with me for a checkup to see if it's my problem or yours." The aunt said through gritted teeth, "Why do you say I'm just occupying a position without doing anything, that I'm a hen that can't lay eggs?"
When the uncle heard that he needed to undergo a check-up, he felt a little uneasy. He shook off his aunt's hand, forced a fierce look at her, and stared at her: "So you think I'm not good enough?"
"If you're so capable, why don't you get checked out? I'm telling you right now. Ma Dexing, you either get checked out, or we're getting a divorce!"
Hearing his divorced uncle's feigned fierceness vanish immediately, he reached out and hugged his aunt, coaxing her gently, "Don't be angry, don't be angry. I asked a friend to pull some strings and got an appointment with that old doctor who's really good at treating fertility problems. Many couples who can't have children have had their own kids after getting treatment there."
"Why didn't you tell me about something so important earlier! When did you make an appointment to see him?" The aunt was overjoyed. She had heard of the old doctor's reputation but had always struggled to find a way to contact him. She never expected that her husband would actually find a way.
"It's still uncertain. The miracle doctor needs to conduct a face-to-face consultation before treatment. Only after passing the consultation can one wait in line for treatment."
"It's a blessing if we can even make an appointment." The aunt suddenly remembered the advice of the fortune teller in Majia Town and asked with some hesitation, "Should we still listen to the fortune teller and bring a child home?"
"Let's put it aside for now. If the miracle doctor doesn't work, we'll try the sorceress's suggestion."
My aunt's husband is very resistant to bringing a child home, especially if he wants to take Xu Kang with him, he wants to bypass Xu Le and bring her along as well. If he can bring only Xu Kang, then it's not out of the question.
But what would Xu Le, a girl, want to do here?
What if the Goddess of Mercy, who grants children, sees Xu Le and gives them a baby girl?
Moreover, both kids are almost of school age, and we'll have to support their education then.
The thought of his hard-earned money being used for two children with no blood relation made his uncle feel like there was a thorn in his heart, something he couldn't accept.
