"Um"
When the grilled cold noodle vendor looked at Niu Daben for the 108th time, he finally couldn't hold back and cautiously asked, "Da Niu, we've been waiting for almost an hour. Shall we call it a day? Starting tonight, I'll be setting up the stall with them. We'll be selling 100 jin a day. With me on the stall, we'll consume an extra ton and a half a month."
"I get it!" Niu Daben slammed his right fist into his left palm, looking as if he had just realized something, and shouted, "They didn't mention their phone number! They didn't mention their phone number during the live broadcast!"
"Did they forget to mention it? Should we go find them tomorrow and have them make it up to us?"
"No." Niu Daben slowly buried his head in his hands, and a deep voice slowly rose: "It's because I didn't say so!"
Silence is Cambridge tonight
The grilled cold noodle shop owner remained silent for a long time before patting Niu Daben on the shoulder with a wry smile, saying, "Forget it, at least they promised to help preserve it for a month. You can just find a couple more batches of students next time."
Meanwhile, among those who paid close attention to Xu's Catering's live stream, besides Gu Yutao, who initiated the collaboration, and Xu's Catering itself, was Mr. Sun, the head of Taobao platform.
"Have the live-streaming statistics for Xu's Catering been released yet?"
"It's out," the technician said, rapidly typing on the keyboard. A data statistics page appeared on the screen.
"The splash page ad received 70,000 clicks, of which 56,000 were effective redirects. In the 17 hours since midnight, Xu's Catering livestream has gained 42,000 followers. 17,000 people returned from the livestream to place orders, totaling 31,000 orders. 13,482 users placed their first order at Xu's Braised Food Taobao Store."
As Gu Yutao narrated, the department leader casually flipped through the materials Gu Yutao had carefully prepared. Gu Yutao had only finished reciting half of his prepared speech when the leader finished reading the materials and closed them.
The people speaking suddenly lowered their voices, but since they were standing right outside the toilet stall where Gu Yutao was, Gu Yutao could still hear their conversation clearly.
The problem is that the loss rate during transport is too high. As things stand, fresh grapes definitely can't be transported out unless they undergo further processing.
"Alright, after the groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow, let's talk to the village chief of Hua'an Village and see if he can make some food from the grapes. If there's anything suitable, we should try to push it through. Otherwise, it's not good to let these seventy-odd tons of grapes rot in the ground. Let's do our best and leave the rest to fate."
"How big can it be? If we hire ten or eight streamers, the monthly salary will only be thirty or forty thousand. If one of them becomes a big streamer, wouldn't all the initial expenses be recovered? Even if these people are all small streamers with a hundred thousand or eighty thousand fans, the money they earn will still be more than the salary paid out!"
Gu Yutao wanted to report the good news directly to his superiors, but there was no one in any of the offices, and the meeting room door was tightly closed.
Last night's revenue.
Four Arabic numerals appeared in Gu Yutao's mind as the leader spoke. His mouth twitched twice, but he couldn't open it. Instead, it turned a little white because he pursed it too hard.
"It's not Boss Xu looking for you, it's me who needs to talk to you." After entering the room, Li Sixin asked with a helpless tone, "Village Chief He, what were you doing at noon today? You just left such good grapes in the fields like that. Fertilizer? Using grapes to compost the fields? Do you even believe that excuse yourself?"
Knock knock—knock knock—
"Yes, yes, absolutely!" Village Chief He replied very obediently.
Snap—Snap—
His rough, large hands flipped quickly through the documents Li Sixin handed him, muttering aloud the titles on each sheet: "Recipes for grape mochi, grape jam, grape shortbread, wine, and grape juice."
“It’s still rotten in the ground, so what’s wrong with me putting some in the field as compost?” Hearing Li Sixin’s question, Village Chief He retorted with his neck stiff.
"Of course! This department sounds like it has a bright future!"
"What is this?" Village Chief He asked instinctively, looking at the paper that had suddenly appeared in his hand.
With only half of his personal issues resolved, Gu Yutao had already lost the exhilarating feeling he had just experienced, and he was momentarily dazed.
It was late at night.
He didn't know how long the leader talked or what he said. By the time Gu Yutao came to his senses, he was already sitting at his workstation. He was all alone in the huge office. The ticking of the wall clock did not break the silence of the night; instead, it made his mood even more desolate.
Li Sixin sensed something was off about the atmosphere and quickly broke the awkward silence: "Stop with the nonsense. Try out these recipes in the next couple of days and see if you can make them and if they taste good! If you can't make them or they don't taste good enough, then even if the King of Heaven himself came, not even Mr. Xu could save you!"
Li Sixin wanted to say something more, but seeing Village Chief He's appearance, he swallowed the rest of his words, reached into his pocket with his right hand, took out a folded piece of paper, and slapped it into Village Chief He's hand.
"Why?" Li Si chuckled softly, turned his head with his hands behind his back to look at the dark village and fields outside the door, and said softly, "I came back here hoping not only that Hezibao can escape poverty, but that the villages around Hezibao and even Hongshan Town can escape poverty, so that everyone can live a life where they can eat meat every day and be able to choose the cuts of meat they like."
