Become a warrior in the mixed race clans of the forest
Jiang Yunlan was suddenly hit by a stray prey. Startled, she looked up and saw Yan Lin's back as he deactivated his beast form.
After transforming back into human form, Yanlin picked up the animal hide he had taken off that morning, walked to a corner, lay down, curled up, and covered himself with the unfolded hide. When orcs transform into beastmen, the clothes they wear do not change accordingly. In order not to damage their animal hide clothing, they will take off the animal hide they are wearing before transforming into beastmen.
Yan Lin leaned against the wall, remaining motionless with his eyes closed, as if he wanted to rest. His wound had been dressed; he had changed it himself with herbs he found outside during the day.
A look of bewilderment crossed Jiang Yunlan's eyes as she gazed questioningly at the weakened Yanlin, then at the small, gray beast-like creature in her arms. She realized that Yanlin had gone hunting during the day.
She didn't quite understand why Yanlin would go hunting while he was sick, but he must have wanted to eat cooked food since he threw him a dead prey.
The horned fan-eared rabbit was bleeding from its neck; it was completely dead. Jiang Yunlan touched her hand with blood and helplessly called Feng Hong over, asking her to come and dissect the prey.
I'll have to roast an extra portion of rabbit meat tonight. Thinking this, Jiang Yunlan started preparing the bowls and spoons.
The orcs weren't familiar with cutlery and it wasn't suitable for them to use chopsticks right away, so she prepared spoons for them. She had so much to do each day that she had only just finished making all the orcs' wooden spoons and her own wooden chopsticks.
Normally, the beastmen would tilt a bamboo tube and pour the boiled fish into their mouths. If any meat remained in the tube, they would pull it out with their hands.
Since she was making soup today, she decided to start teaching the orcs how to use wooden spoons starting tonight.
With both hands firmly gripping the wooden ladle in the earthenware pot, Jiang Yunlan stood up and vigorously stirred the purple flower and chive soup in the pot.
Cooking a large pot of food is also physically demanding, and it was quite strenuous for her to do it in her cub's body. Perhaps because she was the youngest, she was the weakest of the orcs.
Roasted red mushrooms, purple chive soup, and pan-fried fish. That's three dishes for dinner tonight.
To Jiang Yunlan's dismay, the giant bird still hadn't laid any eggs today, meaning she'd missed out on a plate of stir-fried eggs with chives. The dead Three-White Beast (Badger) had eaten the blue eggs laid by the giant bird yesterday and hadn't been poisoned. She was fairly certain that the strange, light blue bird eggs were edible.
A clay pot sat on a triangular stone platform. Jiang Yunlan ladled the cooked soup from the pot into the bowls of the beastmen.
Just then, the roasted rabbit in the fire emitted a fragrant aroma, attracting the maple and other beastmen to stare at the delicious-smelling rabbit. Even their love of vegetables couldn't stop them from being drawn in by the aroma. Rock, who loved meat, was even more unable to resist the tempting smell, swallowing his saliva frantically, his face clearly saying "I want to eat it."
The two lemming orc cubs were also glued to the sizzling rabbit meat; their omnivorous orc craving for meat was the same as that of their carnivorous counterparts. Only Yanlin looked away; he opened his eyes to see the source of the aroma before closing them again.
That's food for the cubs.
As he thought this, the aroma of roasted rabbit grew stronger, filling his nostrils. He frowned in annoyance, then suddenly opened his eyes, his golden pupils slanting upwards.
He saw the tiny squirrel-like beastman cub carrying a roasted rabbit in both hands, walking slowly and steadily towards him.
Yan Lin was caught off guard and met Lan's gaze. He saw Lan smile at him, her eyes crinkling. It was a smile as bright as the sun, much like that of his people.
He unconsciously relaxed his furrowed brow, exhaled, sat up, and ran his hand through his hair. As he did so, the animal skin covering him slipped down to his waist, concealing his lower body.
"Take it back, I'm not eating it." Yan Lin raised his hand to stop Lan from handing over the food, his tone harsh, sounding as if he was angry.
Jiang Yunlan didn't understand what he was saying, but she could see his resistance. She blinked in confusion, thinking that he didn't like other beastmen getting close, so she took two steps back and offered him the food in her hand, only to have him stuff a rabbit leg into his mouth.
A strange sense of familiarity arose. Jiang Yunlan suddenly remembered that on the day she first arrived in the Beast World, Feng Hong had stuffed a red fruit into her mouth.
The beastmen here really love feeding the cubs, they just hand them over.
Jiang Yunlan blinked, then, carrying the roasted rabbit with the missing leg, was pushed away by Yan Lin.
One serving of roasted rabbit meat was divided into several portions and placed in the beastmen's bowls. Jiang Yunlan specially gave Heitu and Mo Rong, who were cubs, a larger share, while she herself only ate the rabbit leg meat that Yan Lin had given her.
When they went out to find food, she was always carried by the beastmen and hardly needed to walk. She didn't expend much energy, so the food should naturally be shared more with Black Earth and the others.
Seeing this, Yan Lin said nothing, lying back down to continue resting with his eyes closed. He didn't eat the dinner Jiang Yunlan had given him, remaining as quiet as if he were asleep. He gave his food to Yan Shi.
The corner where the rocky forest was located was quiet, but the area around the campfire was as lively as ever. The orcs were engrossed in their food, struggling with their spoons as they ate.
Lan is great in every way, except that every time she comes up with something new, it always puts them in a difficult position.
For the first time, the orcs ate their meal with great care. Not wanting to spill the food, they gripped their spoons much more gently, lifting them straight up before moving their heads to eat.
Jiang Yunlan was the first orc to finish her meal, which was quite unusual. She couldn't help but laugh at their reactions.
They moved stiffly, as if they were being held captive by a spoon.
After a while, Feng Hong got tired of lifting the spoon, fiddled with it for a bit, and then suddenly figured out a new way to use it: scooping food out of the bowl. She let out a "whoosh" and proudly demonstrated her method of using the spoon.
The orcs quickly learned her method and happily used spoons to scoop up the food, their eating speed suddenly increasing, finishing the food in their bowls in just a few bites.
They enjoy the feeling of eating heartily; it's very satisfying.
Mo Rong was the only orc who didn't scoop the food out of the pot. He imitated Lan's movements with a spoon, eating with a very proper and upright posture, gradually mastering the skill of using a spoon.
"Let's go, it's time to collect some new hay," Jiang Yunlan said to the beastmen who had finished washing the dishes and spoons.
It hasn't rained for the past two days, so the plants in the forest are no longer damp, and it's time to collect new hay.
Jiang Yunlan led the beastmen down the gentle slope. Night fell, and two moons appeared; it was another night.
The orcs gathered a lot of dry grass near the foot of the mountain and carried it back to their cave in batches. Several orcs quickly spread out piles of dry grass, creating makeshift beds. They were always rough on themselves; they would simply place the dry grass on the ground and press it down with their hands to make a makeshift bed.
However, Lan preferred to sleep alone, so they made a separate haystack for her, using the softest hay they had specially selected. The haystacks for the two lemming orc cubs were made of slightly softer hay.
As for the rest of the haystacks, the orcs just scribbled something together and called it done, as long as they didn't feel cold while lying down.
Jiang Yunlan sat on the newly laid haystack, inspecting the weapons made by the beastmen, including stone spears.
The top of the stone spear is a sharp stone block combining a triangle and the character "工" (gong), with the sides of the triangle being thin and sharp. The main body of the spear, the long wooden stick, has a "凸" (tu) shaped indentation carved into the center at the top to hold the bottom of the "工" shape of the stone in place. Several loops of vines are bound to the joint between the sharp stone block and the long wooden stick, securing it firmly.
After a day and a half of work, the stone spear was successfully produced, and the wooden armor was also completed. Jiang Yunlan tested the stone spear; the spearhead and shaft fit together perfectly, without any looseness.
After putting down the stone spear, she picked up the wooden armor to examine it.
The wooden armor is shaped like a "凸" (convex) character, with numerous rectangular wooden pieces connected by supple grass and vines. Each wooden piece on the armor is three fingers thick, making it heavy to wear.
These weights weren't heavy for Maple Red and Cotton, but they were a bit heavy for Ah Bai, who wasn't very strong.
Jiang Yunlan was well aware of how cumbersome the wooden armor was, so she carefully inquired about the beastmen's feelings while they tried it on, and determined whether or not to let them wear it.
Finally, she decided that Maple and Cotton would wear the two wooden armors she had made when they went out the next day. Rock had no external injuries, but he would get stuck when turning around while wearing the armor. She noticed this and had Rock remove the wooden armor so he could continue turning around.
Rock, confused, followed Lan's instructions and waved his limbs aimlessly. His movements had an inexplicable sense of stagnation, and his shoulders would tremble unnaturally, much like a pain attack.
He had many scars on his body, probably from an injury he sustained some time ago.
"Alright, stop, rock." Jiang Yunlan gestured for him to stop.
He has a hidden injury on the back of his shoulder, which will make practicing spear throwing very difficult. If he's not suited for swords and knives, then he should learn how to heal wounds and later be responsible for treating the orcs' wounds from the rear.
"This is how you throw a spear." Jiang Yunlan looked at the beastmen and picked up a stone spear.
She raised the stone spear with her right hand, pressed her forearm back and down, aimed at the tree in front of her, took a step forward and threw the stone spear with force.
The flying stone spear struck the broad tree and crashed into the soil with a clang. She wasn't strong enough; the spear couldn't penetrate the tree, only creating a small opening.
Seeing this, Feng Hong understood and threw the stone spear in her hand.
The first throw grazed the target tree, struck a tree behind it, and the spearhead embedded itself in the trunk. She was the strongest orc in the clan, and the stone spear she threw created visible cracks in the tree.
Feng Hong looked at the stray stone spear and then at her own hand, somewhat surprised by its destructive power. She happily ran over to retrieve her own spear, and also picked up the one Lan had dropped, returning it to Lan.
The stones for the spearheads of the stone spears were difficult to carve, so the spearheads of three spears were made from the original stone knives.
The orcs, armed with their new weapons, scattered around the area with the storm as their center and began practicing spear throwing.
The training ground that Jiang Yunlan chose for them was at the foot of the clan cave. The trees here were not dense, and there was a small open space near the gentle slope at the foot of the mountain. Looking up, you could see a semi-circular platform halfway up the mountain.
Maple Syrup, sitting on the semi-circular platform, heard their voices and realized they were at the foot of the mountain. She silently leaned on her cane, walked to the edge of the platform, sat down, and lowered her head, silently watching her tribesmen below.
They were orcs from a gathering party. But from now on, they will become members of a hunting party.
They are the new warriors, protecting the clan's existence.
