Find a new mixed race clan in the orc forest
The orcs from the gathering team went out.
There were no lemming orc cubs in today's gathering team. Jiang Yunlan left the two cubs with the clan, instructing them to tend the fire and make pottery. Maple Syrup and Autumn Fruit hadn't slept all night and desperately needed rest.
In the forest, Jiang Yunlan sat on Ah Bai's arm, feeling drowsy, and couldn't help but yawn.
This clan has too few orcs; there aren't enough adult laborers, and even going out to gather resources is fraught with great danger. She thought that this clan needs more orcs. Although the clan's food reserves are limited, it shouldn't be a problem to absorb a few lone orcs.
Unfortunately, it was difficult to encounter lone orcs. She went out with the gathering team several times, but never saw an orc of another race.
Jiang Yunlan blinked and rubbed her face sleepily. Ah Bai put her down.
We've reached the river.
Today, Ah Bai was carrying a vine basket and a wooden bucket, so he had to hold her in front of him. She was strangely used to it, thinking that if the beastmen ever picked her up again, she might as well be picked up. She should get used to the way the beastmen habitually carried her.
Clearing her mind of the clutter, Jiang Yunlan took out the stone knife that Qiu Guo had given her that morning and squatted down to dig in the soil. The tribe's red soil was almost used up, and they needed to replenish it.
Maple and Cotton were in charge of collecting the fish. They would put down the vine baskets and the wooden buckets slung around their waists on the riverbank and then wad into the river to drag the fish baskets.
The two orcs emptied the fish from their baskets into a vine-covered crate, remembering to pick out the small fry and release them into the river. They remembered what Lan had said.
Seeing that the two orcs were about to gut the fish, Jiang Yunlan quickly took out two bowls, washed them clean with river water, and placed them in front of them. She gestured to show them what fish oil was and had them pour the fish oil into the bowls.
She specially made a bowl lid to match the bowl yesterday, just so she could bring the fish oil back with her.
With fish oil, they can then tan animal hides. Medium to large carnivores are beyond their capabilities, but herbivores are a possibility.
She has the idea of hunting, but she won't rashly say that she wants to go hunting.
The small gray beast in her tribe made her realize that the animals in this world were probably not easy to deal with. She strongly suspected that all the herbivores in this world had sharp horns.
She thought to herself that she should wait until she had made the stone spears and wooden shields before going hunting. She didn't want the orcs to be injured or killed because of her recklessness.
The orcs inspected the fish baskets and nearby traps, then filled a vine basket with red soil, three wooden buckets, and a clay pot with water before leaving the river.
Since the traps didn't catch any animals today, Jiang Yunlan simply used what was available and made two new traps.
Since arriving in this world, she has been obsessed with making traps. When she goes out in the morning, she sets up several bird traps at the foot of the clan's mountain, and when she returns in the evening, she checks to see if there is any prey.
Three orcs of different races walked through the forest, each carrying a cub. The young orcs carried wooden buckets filled with water at their waists and three vine baskets on their backs. One basket was filled with red soil, another with prey, and the third with miscellaneous items and fruit they had brought from their clan.
Transparent, almost invisible magical creatures float around the squirrel-beast cubs, watching them search for new berries.
At noon, the beastmen stopped to rest, took their lunch from Lan's hands, and ate the fruit they had brought from the clan.
Lan told them yesterday that from now on, each orc will be able to eat three meals a day, including lunch. Orcs who go out will eat, and orcs who stay in the clan will also eat. She will tell Maple Syrup how to distribute the food before she goes out.
Having been in the Beast World for several days, Jiang Yunlan still couldn't get used to not eating lunch; her stomach was always growling with hunger. Even though she didn't expend much energy, the beastmen must be suffering even more from hunger.
Many days of autumn have passed, the leaves have turned yellow, and berries are not as easy to find as before.
Feng Hong led the way, gradually moving out of the area where the Deer-Beastman Clan had previously been active.
If there's no food to gather in familiar territory, then new, unknown territories should be explored. Clans that fear the unknown can only guard their dwindling food supplies and quietly perish.
They didn't see any edible berries along the way, so the beastmen didn't stop and continued walking at a moderate pace.
Jiang Yunlan was held in Ah Bai's arms, her head resting on his shoulder, and she slept fitfully the whole way. In her half-asleep state, she suddenly felt Ah Bai stop moving, so she slowly raised her head and blinked.
"Ah Bai?" She had just woken up, and her voice was a little muffled.
Ah Bai could tell she was calling him, and he answered softly, "Lan."
"What's wrong?" she asked again.
At this moment, Feng Hong noticed Ah Bai's pause, turned to look at him with a puzzled expression. Mianhua stopped a beat later and looked at him as well.
Ah Bai pricked up his ears and listened carefully again. He turned to look at the source of the sound and hesitantly said in the orc language, "I heard the voices of other orcs. He is about to starve to death."
Hearing this, Feng Hong's eyes lit up. She looked in the direction he was looking, her expression excited. She couldn't wait to take in a new member of her tribe!
Jiang Yunlan didn't understand the orc language Ah Bai was speaking, but she knew from their reactions that they had found something good.
"Lan!" Feng Hong turned around and looked at Lan, excitedly pointing in the direction of the future clansmen, her face full of expectation, as if the words "want to go" were written all over her face.
Jiang Yunlan naturally had no objections. She raised her hand, patted Ah Bai's shoulder, and gestured in the direction they were looking, "Let's go."
The group pushed aside the bushes and saw one orc lying on the back of another. Both orcs were dressed in long animal hides, their bodies covered in dust.
They had cat ears and fluffy, golden-yellow tails with spots. Looking at their appearance, Jiang Yunlan had a rough idea of what they were based on: cats or leopards.
The two orcs had golden hair and looked somewhat like cheetahs. She hesitated for a moment, then mistook them for cheetah orcs.
Upon seeing the two carnivorous beastmen, Feng Hong's excitement instantly cooled. She looked at them with the same disdain she would show for junk items from a blind box.
Carnivorous beastmen are different from these herbivorous and omnivorous beastmen; although powerful, they are arrogant and extremely destructive. Feng Hong has a very bad impression of them, whether they are carnivorous beastmen from the forest or from elsewhere.
The clan once saved a carnivorous orc from another place. He was awake at night and said he would keep watch, but he secretly left the clan while all the orcs were sleeping. He even used branches to smother the fire, extinguishing it completely, which saddened the elder sister for a long time.
Maple Red didn't believe that the proud leopard beastman would join the clan and become her new member.
She abandoned them, intending to tell Lan to leave, since they weren't her people anyway. Just as she was about to call Lan's name, she saw Lan approach the two fallen leopard-beastmen.
A look of bewilderment crossed her eyes; she couldn't understand why Lan would want to take them back, when these carnivorous beastmen were clearly a huge nuisance.
Jiang Yunlan didn't have mind-reading abilities, so she naturally didn't know what puzzled Feng Hong. She touched the foreheads of the two leopard-like beastmen to check their temperature.
One of the orcs had a fever and unhealed wounds, suggesting he was ill. The other orc was uninjured, but also had a high fever and kept repeating something, appearing somewhat disoriented.
She couldn't understand what he was saying, so she turned around and called Cotton over. She took out a ceramic pot and an empty bowl from the vine basket on Cotton's back and fed water to the two unconscious beastmen.
After emptying a bowl of water, she took out a fish, peeled off the leaves, tore off the fish meat, removed the bones, and divided it into two portions, feeding them to the two leopard beastmen.
Their stomachs were growling; they must be starving.
One of these orcs protected the other from injury, and the other, despite being sick himself, did not abandon the other. It is highly likely that both of them are of good character and can be taken back to the clan.
Jiang Yunlan didn't mind taking care of the two sick leopard beastmen; they could work once they recovered. The mixed-race clan was desperately short of labor, and two adult beastmen couldn't be let go.
If she misjudged them and found that the two orcs were of bad character and treacherous, she would drive them out and leave them to fend for themselves.
The two orcs who were supposed to die were rescued, and Jiang Yunlan took them away.
On their return journey, the orcs of the gathering team were carrying two orcs and were unable to inspect the bird traps at the foot of the mountain. They had no choice but to take the two sick people back to the cave and have Maple Sugar and a few other orcs look after them.
After settling the patient in, Jiang Yunlan hurriedly led the orcs from the collection team out to check the traps.
Perhaps the birds had been unable to find food recently, or perhaps they had never experienced the dangers of modern humans. Many bird traps were triggered; only one trap failed to catch a bird, while the others contained one or two birds in each.
Jiang Yunlan tied up eight birds of various sizes, stuffed them into a vine basket, and nodded with satisfaction. Birds don't have much meat to eat, but they can be used to test for poison. She had already decided how to eat those delicious-looking mushrooms.
But... now a new problem has arisen: where can she find herbs to heal her wounds?
The wounded leopard beastman had traces of green sap on his wounds, indicating that herbs had been applied. Should they wait for one of the leopard beastmen to wake up before bringing him out to find his own way? Jiang Yunlan remained silent.
"If only I knew all the plants in this world." She rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on, when she suddenly heard Feng Hong call her name.
Feng Hong casually picked a plant from the side, rolled it into a ball and pressed it on her arm, then waved her arm very healthily, before gesturing for Lan to come with her.
Seeing her actions, Jiang Yunlan suddenly understood, smiled and nodded, not forgetting to praise her. She clearly meant that she knew how to find the herbs.
Hearing the praise, Feng Hong grinned, picked up Lan, and led her around to search for herbs. When her older sister injured her leg, she needed to apply herbs, so she remembered what the herbs looked like and could recognize them every time she saw them.
The clan's herbs are all gone; we'll have to search slowly to find new ones.
Herbs were hard to find; the orcs searched for a long time before finding only a few. Their vine baskets contained very few herbs, but were mostly filled with mushrooms that Jiang Yunlan had picked. Some were brightly colored, others were dull gray, and still others were strangely shaped. She had already decided that the poisonous mushrooms could be ground into poison powder for future use as weapons.
She certainly wouldn't easily poison and murder other orcs, but orcs without combat skills are destined to be controlled by stronger orcs.
One should not have the intention to harm others, but one should not be without the intention to guard against others.
Jiang Yunlan returned to the clan with herbs, mushrooms, and birds.
Before leaving, she and the orcs built a triangular stone platform in the cave. They could simply place the pottery pot on top of the platform to start a fire and boil water.
Walking slowly into the cave, Jiang Yunlan saw that a ceramic bowl had been placed on the stone platform where the ceramic pot should have been. She immediately understood that the water in the ceramic pot had been boiled and then taken down, and Maple Syrup was using the ceramic bowl to cook tonight's dinner.
The three old orcs in the tribe had bad teeth, and the two newly rescued patients also needed to eat something soft and warm, so before she left, she specifically asked Maple Syrup to cook more fish and meat in a ceramic bowl.
Hearing footsteps approaching from outside the cave, Maple Sugar looked up at Lan Xiao, who was returning, pointed at the pottery pot and then at the leopard beastman leaning against the wall, and said, "Lan, woo-ah-yo-ah."
Jiang Yunlan still couldn't understand the beastman's language, but she could understand her gestures. She said that the leopard beastman's wounds had been cleaned, and Mo Rong and Hei Tu were using cold water to cool it down.
"Maple syrup, it's great." Jiang Yunlan smiled brightly and used her usual compliment.
After spending a few days with Lan, the beastmen all understood that when Lan said "great," she meant they had done a good job. Maple Syrup naturally knew this too, and smiled with her lips pursed.
Within the clan, no orc dislikes Lan's praise.
After praising the maple syrup and the two cubs, Jiang Yunlan knelt down to check on the leopard beastman. The uninjured beastman's body temperature was gradually returning to normal, and his condition was better than before. The injured beastman was still running a fever and his condition was not good.
"Lan." Feng Hong called Lan's name and handed her the pounded herbs.
She turned to take the herb from Feng Hong, whose juice had been squeezed out, and then turned around to see that the uninjured leopard beastman had woken up. He opened his golden eyes and stared blankly at Jiang Yunlan, looking as if he hadn't yet realized where he was.
"Are you alright?" Jiang Yunlan asked with concern.
His temperature has gone down; he probably hasn't been driven crazy by the fever.
A note from the author:
----------------------
"The Triangular Stone Platform is a collection of three flat stones stacked together. It is named by Jiang Yunlan because it is located at the three apexes of a triangle. The Triangular Stone Platform should not be too high, so it is only suitable for cooking. 022 Note."

New information has been unlocked: Herbivorous Orcs, Carnivorous Orcs, and Omnivorous Orcs.
Vegetarian orcs (carnivorous orcs) refer to orcs whose main diet consists of vegetarian (meat-eating) food. They can also eat meat (vegetarian food) but have never eaten it in their lives without any problems. Most of the nutrients their bodies need are obtained from vegetables (meat). Long-term consumption of meat (vegetarian food) without vegetables (meat) will lead to illness and death.
Omnivorous orcs generally refer to those who require a balanced diet of both plant and animal foods, and must eat both. A small number of special orcs are also classified as such, such as orcs that grow by eating minerals.
Please note that the distinction between herbivorous, carnivorous, and omnivorous orcs should be based on the information obtained by 022, and should not be applied to the situation on Earth.
