Lan wanted it; Lan obtained the Xia clan from the forest.
Jiang Yunlan embarked on her journey to the other side of the mountain.
As the only cub in the entire group, she simply sat inside the wooden cart and watched the scenery pass by.
Because this group included Xia clan beastmen who couldn't fly and many other items, the winged beastmen didn't spread their wings again, only transforming into their beast forms and taking a short rest in the wooden cart when they were tired.
Perhaps because the Xia and Hati clans had cleared the grasslands, Jiang Yunlan and her group did not encounter any wild beasts that suddenly appeared as they walked across the grasslands.
On the second night of our journey, no wild animals attacked.
They hastily cleared out a place to rest, and a fire was lit at the temporary resting spot.
"Clatter".
Sparks flew out of the fire.
Apart from the two orcs on night watch, the other orcs were already asleep. It was so quiet that Jiang Yunlan could hear the fire. She hadn't fallen asleep for a long time, her eyes closed, before she slowly opened them and gazed at the fire.
There weren't many empty seats in the car, and only she, with her small stature, was sleeping inside. The other beastmen were all lying on the lawn in human form.
022 noticed her movement, suddenly looked up, and looked puzzled.
Hearing no sound from Lan, it remained silent, quietly watching her. After an unknown amount of time, it saw Lan close her eyes again. Lan wasn't asleep; it could tell.
Lan was still worried about the beast tide. This thought popped into its head.
Before setting off, Lan asked it about the materials needed to make gunpowder. It told Lan several methods, some from Earth and others from other planets. Lan didn't write these methods down; it simply memorized them.
Jiang Yunlan couldn't sleep, and inexplicably recalled what Hui Mi had said to her on the day of the bonfire party.
[Because Lan is always busy, even on her days off. It's like she's being chased by a wild beast.]
Did she subconsciously sense the danger at that time? That's why she didn't dare to stop and rest for even a moment. She didn't know, but...
It seemed she was really about to be chased by wild beasts. She thought to herself, curling up and trying to clear her mind to fall asleep.
She had to memorize the way to the other side of the mountain and couldn't fall asleep during the day.
"诱辱辱辘."
The wheels turned forward, and Jiang Yunlan and her group left the grassland and entered the shrub forest on the plain.
The shrubbery consisted mostly of short trees, none taller than Maple's head. These trees were sparse, and by simply cutting down some of the low-lying vegetation blocking the path, even wide wooden carts could easily pass through. The orcs' view was also rarely obstructed.
Before entering the bush, Jiang Yunlan sent the three fastest orcs in her group to scout the area. She remembered what Gray Stream had said: two of her people had died near the bush. Those wild beasts might be secretly watching this place.
Jiang Yunlan's lips twitched as her fingers touched the powder in her waist pouch.
The poisons she could concoct that could kill animals were mostly compound poisons with cumulative effects, so they took effect relatively slowly. The portion of the poison powder that worked quickly had already been used up during the tribespeople's outings.
All fear stemmed from insufficient firepower. Jiang Yunlan came to a profound understanding of this statement during this period.
"Lan, no beasts were found," the beastmen said after exploring the area around the entrance to the bush forest.
There were no wild beasts, nor the small, weak animals that often appeared. It was as if all the small animals here had been eaten.
"Stay alert and keep going," Jiang Yunlan said.
She brought out a dozen or so of her tribesmen, making a total of about twenty orcs with the winged beastmen—a medium-sized force in the eyes of the orc clan. Scattered wild beasts wouldn't ambush them; they needed to be more wary of the appearance of a pack of beasts.
The trees in the bushes had lost many leaves and looked somewhat bare.
Autumn has arrived.
Jiang Yunlan wrapped the scarf that Feng Hong and the others had knitted for her last snow season around her neck, and reached out to touch the ice crystal stone that was half-exposed in the pocket. The elf was still asleep, occasionally emitting a little light when it woke up.
She has been in the beast world for a year.
She hoped to get through the snow season safely this year. Just as she finished saying this to herself, an orc came to tell her that a herd of wild beasts had been spotted ahead.
It was the pack of wild beasts that had devoured two of their people; they happened to be resting.
"Since we've run into them, let's avenge our people." Jiang Yunlan said, raising her hand to signal the team to retreat and set traps nearby.
Those beasts bore a striking resemblance to rhinos, sharing a similar prowess in sprinting. Nets were unsuitable for them; their brute strength and barbs could easily break through their confinement. However, if they were trapped in a pit, their strength and barbs would be ineffective.
The medicine in Jiang Yunlan's hand wasn't enough to make them so unconscious that they wouldn't wake up even if they were stabbed, but it was enough to let them sleep for a long time.
The poison would have woken them up in pain, so she didn't use it.
The medicinal powder in the wind lulled the horned rhinoceroses into a very long sleep. At the end of their long dream came a sharp pain; they were awakened by arrows coated with poison.
The moment the horned rhinoceros leader opened his eyes, he lost sight in his left eye.
It angrily turned towards the direction from which the arrow that had struck its eye had come, and a squirrel-beastman cub appeared in its field of vision.
"roar--"
Enraged, the horned rhinoceros gave a command, shouting for its minions to charge forward.
Jiang Yunlan and 022's assessment based on the distance of the horned rhinoceroses was correct; the horned rhinoceros herd charged forward following their angry leader.
Hearing the roar of the wild beast, the leopard, now in her beast form, turned and ran with Lan on her back. She ran swiftly, with the rock sheep beastmen, also carrying their tribesmen, beside her.
"call out--"
The arrow flew and struck the horned rhinoceros, which had slowed its pace. Spurred on, the herd of horned rhinoceroses charged!
"Lan! Hold on tight!" the leopard beastman said.
The wind howled, whipping Jiang Yunlan's hair. She slung her bow and arrows over her shoulder and clung tightly to the leopard-man's fur.
The golden leopard, carrying Lan on its back, leaped over a row of low bushes and landed safely on the ground ahead. The ram-like beastman, skilled in jumping, jumped even further, quickly carrying his tribesmen to hide behind Feng Hong and the other beastmen.
A charging horned rhinoceros burst through the bushes, only to fall into a trap. The only one lucky enough to step on its companion's back and cross the trap was met with a devastating blow from a stone hammer.
Maple stood outside the trap and hammered the lucky horned rhinoceros into the empty space on the left side of the pit.
Nearby, the orcs, weapons in hand and poised for battle, stood there, their expressions blank. The beasts had all been dealt with. They blinked dazedly, then walked to the traps to finish off the remaining beasts. Feng Hong had just knocked away a horned rhinoceros with her hammer; her hand was slightly numb from the impact, and she alternated between her left and right hands, gripping her slightly deformed stone hammer. She was relaxing her arms.
The horned rhinoceros is clever; it knows it can climb onto the corpse of its companion to escape the trap, but the Xia beastmen will not give it that chance.
While they are weakened by the poison and unable to get up, finish them off.
The orcs didn't spare a single horned rhinoceros, poking them one by one before using their weapons to overturn their carcasses and let them roll into the empty spaces at the bottom of the pit.
Jiang Yunlan threw a fire into the pit filled with horned rhinoceroses.
The horned rhinoceros, scorched by the fire, stopped feigning death and roared, trying to get out, but could only crash into the wall in all directions. The corpse of its companion was not tall enough to support it as it walked out of the pit.
No orc was surprised that wild beasts could play dead. Lan had told them that wild beasts could also play dead, so when killing wild beasts, they must remember to finish them off to ensure they were as dead as possible before taking them away or burning them.
After the fire was extinguished, Jiang Yunlan led her people to fill the pit with soil and compact it, then pulled the wooden cart and the winged beastmen to set off again.
Leaving the plains through the bushes, the rolling mountains in the distance revealed their form.
Jiang Yunlan and her group headed towards the mountain, and after several days of travel, they finally arrived at its foot. The winged beastman led the Xia clan beastmen to the river and instructed them to memorize its location.
"We'll come back to find you at the third sunrise." The winged beastmen pointed to the river and bid farewell to the Xia clan beastmen, carrying bamboo cages and vine baskets on their backs as they hurried back to their clan.
On their first day in the mountains, Jiang Yunlan led her people to build a temporary dwelling at the foot of the mountain.
Before receiving the liquid spiders and other items from the winged beastmen, they will search for food here.
Time flies. On the third sunrise in the mountains, Jiang Yunlan met the Green-Winged Crows and other orcs who had come to the area by the river.
The winged beastmen placed the liquid spiders in bamboo cages, handed them over to the Xia clan beastmen, and also gave them various plants they had dug up in the clan's habitat, as well as the items they had agreed upon beforehand.
“Chief Xia, see you next fruit season,” said the Green-Hooped Crow.
"See you next fruit season," Jiang Yunlan said.
The Xia clan orcs settled their newly acquired goods and pulled their carts through the mountains. Finding ore was difficult; the orcs searched two mountains without success.
The weather is getting colder, and the beastmen's long-standing experience tells them that the snow season is approaching.
Lan said that the ore was very important, and they would not give up until they had searched every mountain. So, the beastmen put on warm animal clothes and fluffy shoes and continued their search.
As long as Lan doesn't give up, they'll never mention going back. Whatever Lan wants, they'll get it for her, no matter how difficult!
The colder the weather, the more energetic the beastmen become.
They wore clothes that appeared because of Arashi, ate food that they found because of Arashi, and desperately wanted to fulfill Arashi's wish.
"Don't be sad, Lan. If this mountain doesn't have it, we'll go to the next one!" Feng Hong said.
"Even if there are no minerals in these mountains, we will go to other places after the snow season and bring back minerals for Lan!" the beastmen said in a loud voice.
They didn't know what kind of stone the ore was. But that didn't matter; they knew the ore was underground, in the mountains. As long as they gave all the stones of different colors they had dug up to Lan, they were sure to find the ore Lan wanted.
Hearing the encouragement from her clansmen, Jiang Yunlan shook off her dejection and said loudly, "Let's go to the next mountain!"
When the snow season arrived, 022 finally discovered the existence of the mining area.
"Lan, there's ore in here. It's not deep, you can dig." It floated beside the mountain wall, pointing its round hand towards the wide cave entrance. It hadn't detected any life forms inside, and no wild beasts would suddenly emerge from the cave.
Just then, a snowflake landed above Jiang Yunlan's right eye. She instinctively closed her eyes and removed the snowflake covering her right eye.
The snowflakes were tiny, only about the length of her thumb.
She looked at the melting snowflakes in her palm and suddenly became happy. She looked at the transparent slime and her eyes crinkled: "022, it's snowing!"
It snowed, and she found the item she wanted.
022 smiled and said in a light tone, "Yes, it's snowing. 022 saw it."
Lan was very happy.
When the beastmen of Xia heard 022 mention the minerals in the cave, they all became excited and rushed in with their stone pickaxes.
Feng Hong carried the stone pickaxe in one hand and caught the snowflakes in the other. She carefully handed the snowflakes to Lan, then instantly sped up and ran into the cave to compete with her tribesmen to see who could dig up the ore first.
Leaving two orcs outside the cave to guard the supplies, Jiang Yunlan was about to turn around and pick up 022 to go into the cave when she caught a glimpse of a figure flashing past in the corner.
She shifted her gaze, but the creature she had just noticed was gone.
It looked like a dragon, with its two claws at its sides, standing on two feet, and a pair of wings that were not spread behind it.
"Western dragon?"

Author's Note: This time, the main purpose was to let Lan familiarize herself with the area; the mountainous region map won't be available too early. The new map will only be unlocked after all the clans in the grasslands have been subdued.
