Chapter 8: No Peace
The Shen family packed their luggage quickly.
With the cart, Diao and the children could save some energy. They could put all the bamboo baskets and backpacks on the cart. If anyone was really tired, they could be pushed for a while.
"You're lucky today, but don't do that again."
Chen Chunxing just smiled at Diao's sigh. She had observed for a long time yesterday and had already understood the character of the postman. She expected that he would not be rejected.
As for water...
Chen Chunxing glanced into the distance seemingly casually.
Several people returned with happy faces.
The escort officer was now standing beside the convoy and watching silently.
Exiles are criminals, and it is rare for them not to be exploited. But now, although their treatment is not good, it is not deliberately harsh either.
This is strange.
However, when he met the leading escort officer yesterday, Chen Chunxing had no doubts.
Appearance and behavior can deceive people, but the soul cannot.
In her eyes, the world is always clear.
The escort officer had blood on his hands but golden feet. He must be a man who sticks to the bottom line. Since the court sent him, it must be that he would not simply escort a prisoner.
I need water today, one for my own use, and two for testing.
Now that her guess was confirmed, she felt that things were becoming more interesting.
When it was completely light, the officers shouted and set off.
Perhaps it was because the incoming well water was sweet enough, or perhaps because they noticed the escort officer's slightly lenient attitude, but after a night, most people began to accept reality.
There were fewer sobs and complaints in the team, and the pace naturally increased.
No one was really a fool. They knew that the longer they delayed, the more disadvantageous it would be for their families. If they really had to wait until winter to reach the north, they would probably freeze to death.
However, God never tolerates peace.
We traveled like this for three or four days, and when we set up camp at night, we were suddenly hit by a rainstorm.
There was no shelter in the mountains, so instead of standing there in the rain, it was better to move forward. Everyone had no choice but to brave the rain and rush to the next post station.
The night was dark, the rain wet our faces, and the scattered branches and thorns made the already rugged road even more difficult to walk on.
Before they had walked more than ten miles, many people fell.
When it started to rain, Chen Chunxing carried the little fourth child to the cart and let him sit between the bamboo baskets with an umbrella to provide some shelter.
Seeing that Zhixia and Mingqiu were both pale and staggering, she made a quick decision and said, "You two go up too."
Shen Mingqiu looked back at Yang Yi and wiped his face with his hand, "I don't need it anymore."
Chen Chunxing was not asking for his opinion. He signaled to Zhixia, and someone lifted up one of Chen Mingqiu's arms and forcefully threw him onto the cart.
After helping Shen Zhixia sit up, Shen Chunxing looked at Yang Yi, "Can you hold on?"
The man's Adam's apple rolled, and he only uttered a low response: "It's okay."
Chen Chunxing nodded, and helped Diao over, letting her hold onto the edge of the cart for support. "This won't work. I'll go check ahead. You guys go slowly, don't rush."
Diao Shi had no time to stop her, and the little girl, wrapped in the wind and rain, disappeared into the crowd. She couldn't help but slap Yang Yi's arm hard and shouted, "Quick! Follow her! This crazy girl is making trouble again!"
there.
Chen Chunxing squinted his eyes and walked through the crowd without touching the ground.
Others would always be extremely cautious when taking a few steps forward, fearing they might step on rocks or puddles, but she was the only one who took steps without hesitation, as if it were daytime.
Soon, Chen Chunxing arrived at the front of the team.
The officer saw someone running out rashly and shouted, "Go back!"
Chen Chunxing stopped and looked around. Everywhere he looked was jungle. It was obvious that he was still far from getting out of the mountain.
It is difficult for people to move, and even more difficult for cars to move.
If we continue like this, I'm afraid a lot of people will fall ill.
She suppressed her emotions and complained to an elderly official with a sad face, "Sir, if this continues, I'm afraid we won't be able to reach the post station even after the rain stops. I'm going to get wet anyway, so I might as well just stand there and get wet."
A tender white little face was wrinkled into the shape of a bun, a bun that had fallen into the water.
It looks really pitiful.
"What nonsense!"
The official was at least forty years old, and his daughter was about the same age as the little girl before him. Seeing the little girl shivering with cold, like an eggplant hit by frost, he added in a melody.
"Don't worry, we won't be gone for long. Someone will find shelter from the rain."
While the two were talking, an officer jumped on his horse.
"Lao Zhang, you lead the others forward, I'll go explore the way first."
When he saw the person on horseback, Chen Chunxing breathed a sigh of relief, but the breath came back into his throat.
It’s the leading escort officer!
She stared at the man's head, and felt that the dark night sky was not as terrible as his current fate.
Once we leave, we will be separated by life and death.
“Wait!”
Thinking that he still had to rely on the other party's protection along the way, Chen Chunxing subconsciously spoke out to stop him.
After she shouted, she regretted it.
I can only pray that my words are of little weight and no one will pay attention to me.
Unexpectedly, the other party really stopped and turned his horse around.
Just then, the nobleman's carriage passed behind him.
Chen Chunxing blinked and immediately shouted in panic, "Slow down, don't step on my feet!"
The groom was surprised when he heard this.
He had never heard anything so ridiculous! How could a horse step on a person's foot... Well, he had never seen it happen.
In the blink of an eye, the horse seemed to be frightened by the little girl and raised its hooves high.
"Stop it!"
Wei Da's face darkened, mistakenly thinking that the groom had done it on purpose, and he quickly scolded him.
However, when I got closer, I found that the development of the situation was a bit strange.
The horse raised its hooves and dropped them heavily, only inches away from the little girl.
But her thin shoulders did not move at all, and her head was still slightly raised, allowing the rain to wash over her.
Instead, the coachman looked panic-stricken, and there were "bang bang" sounds coming from the shaking carriage.
"master!"
Wei Da was silent for a long time, then he dismounted and called for someone to take him away.
In such situations, horses are easily frightened, so it is best not to ride them.
"Didn't you call me just now?"
Chen Chunxing didn't move his feet. He turned his head and saw that the black energy above the man's head had dissipated. He pretended to be stupid and said, "Why should I call you sir?"
Wei Da frowned and asked again, "Aren't you afraid of such a dangerous thing?"
Chen Chunxing turned down the corner of his mouth, looking dazed as if he was about to cry but couldn't.
"I'm so scared, I can't even walk. Could you please call my family over?"
Wei Da...
He intuitively felt that the little girl in front of him was very interesting.
He just has a bad temper and likes to play people off.
"Lao Zhang, take her there."
Before leaving, Wei Da looked back at the mysterious forest for some unknown reason, and then he breathed a long sigh of relief.
I just felt that the dark night sky seemed to disperse in one day, and it no longer made me feel suffocated.
