Chapter 19 A Quiet Visit

Russell and his small team gathered here and started today's dinner.

There were three people gathered at the round table, including him.

There was a bed next to the table, on which lay Romero, who was receiving an IV drip. He was in a coma and had not yet woken up.

This is his team, plus Romero and his small team of four people in total.

Romero, a former Marine Corps veteran and former WHO volunteer, is the deputy captain of this small team fighting human trafficking and is also the force leader.

Martha, a former WHO volunteer and former chief professor of St. Peter's Medical School, is the medical expert of this team.

John, a former top member of the Hacker League, is the team's network leader.

Finally, there is himself.

Russell, a former professor at Cambridge University and former WHO volunteer, is the founder and captain of this team.

They are all elites among human beings, and they have all struggled for lofty ideals for many years.

But now, this group of elites gathered at a round table, eating their dinner bite by bite, their minds completely free.

Romero has just recovered from a serious injury and just needs to rest for a long time.

Therefore, the minds of the three people at the round table will inevitably think about the extraordinary things that they had not had time to think about before.

The world doesn't seem to be what they know.

Everything suddenly became unfamiliar.

"What's the current condition of Romero's arm?" Russell suddenly asked, breaking the silence between the few people.

Looking at Romero who was unconscious at the side, he started the topic with Romero's condition, deliberately avoiding the extraordinary thing that everyone was thinking about.

"Except for John, is there anyone in this team who doesn't have some medical skills?" Martha looked up and rolled her eyes at Russell. "Even though Romero has been rescued, you know very well what his future will be like."

Hearing this, Russell fell silent.

Indeed, he, Romero and Martha were all volunteers for the World Health Organization.

Although his and Romero's medical skills were far inferior to Martha's, they knew a little bit.

He understood that with Martha's treatment, Romero was fortunate to recover from blood loss, inflammation and infection.

From now on, the arm that was pierced by the steel bar will definitely not be able to make big movements often.

The massive muscle tearing caused by an injury of this degree will inevitably lead to this consequence.

"It just so happens that Romero hasn't been back to see the children for a long time, so why not..." John suddenly spoke, saying this cryptically.

Although it was said cryptically, Russell understood what John meant.

This was a suggestion to send Romero home.

He was no longer suitable to be with them. Instead of doing such dangerous things for lofty ideals all year round, it would be better for him to go back and enjoy his life.

Russell fell into deep thought.

He also wanted the half-crippled Romero to go back and enjoy life, but he knew that Romero himself definitely wanted to persevere.

In front of countless victims who dared not speak out, he and Romero made a firm vow to fight human trafficking for the rest of their lives.

There was a long silence before he could say anything.

The doorbell suddenly rang.

The discussion around the round table suddenly fell silent.

The three of them looked at each other. Years of living on the edge of a knife made them all wary.

Various thoughts were running through the minds of the three people.

Did they offend a human trafficking organization and get to know them? Or did they offend someone because they witnessed the extraordinary event?

Without thinking too much, Russell took out the pistol from his waist and turned on the safety.

His eyes signaled to Martha and John to be ready to evacuate at any time.

Martha and John shook their heads when they saw this, and both drew their guns and stood guard beside Romero's bed.

Russell was silent for a while, then walked towards the villa gate helplessly.

However, when the door opened, an American soldier in camouflage uniform appeared.

They were not members of a human trafficking organization who came for revenge as imagined, nor were they extraordinary people who might have been sought out because they had witnessed extraordinary events as imagined.

This is just an American soldier.

Russell could even recognize from their uniforms that these were soldiers from Major General Chris's mechanized special operations force, which was the closest to the town.

The soldier was holding a notebook and looking at Russell who opened the door.

"Sorry to bother you, I need to investigate some issues on behalf of the government."

The American soldier smiled.

Russell frowned, his eyes frantically scanning the surrounding environment.

Based on the reconnaissance techniques and concealment methods that Romero had taught him, he was sure that he did not see any ambushes hidden around him, and that hundreds of swordsmen would not suddenly jump on his face.

However, soldiers holding notebooks were also seen in front of several houses across the street.

Russell quickly glanced at the soldier in front of him again, and based on his micro-expression, he could not tell that the soldier showed any wariness or hostility.

He couldn't help but remain silent for a moment.

Is it really just a survey of all citizens?

Not targeting them?

"gentlemen?"

The soldier looked at Russell who hadn't responded for a long time and shouted louder.

"Yeah, I'm in. What do you want to ask?"

Although Russell breathed a sigh of relief, he still looked at the soldier in confusion.

Taos is a small town with a developed tourism industry. Apart from a police station, there has never been a military station in the town.

Now, if soldiers suddenly come door to door to investigate...

Could it be? "Excuse me, how many people are there in your family? What is the purpose of coming to Taos? Where were you from midnight to six o'clock this morning?"

The soldier picked up a pen and moved to the notebook, looking at Russell and asking questions.

"I'm here for a trip, and I'm traveling with three friends. We should all still be sleeping this early morning."

Russell pretended to think for a few seconds, then answered as if nothing had happened.

But his heart was in turmoil at this moment.

really!

Since the question was asked in the early morning, it must be that the US officials discovered what happened in the manor in the north! The US officials also realized the possible existence of extraordinary power!

They are investigating right now!

But with the ability of the authorities, they should be able to find some traces left by him and Romero: Romero's blood, their fingerprints, their biological tissue remains, their footprints...

It shouldn't be like it is now, where no abnormality was noticed and no special attitude was taken towards them.

While thinking deeply, Russell responded to the questions from the American soldiers in front of him.

After the soldier finished asking questions and left, Russell slowly closed the door with a thoughtful expression.

Why... weren't they involved? They were investigating supernatural powers, so there was no way they wouldn't be careful.

Could it be that his anti-reconnaissance ability was not good enough and he didn't realize that the authorities were actually secretly monitoring them? The more Russell thought about it, the more entangled he became.

"How about...taking the initiative to tell them the information I know?"

Russell murmured and turned around.

What he saw when he turned around made him open his eyes wide.

Martha and John were seen raising their pistols and pointing them at a stranger who was sitting next to Romero's bed.
