Chapter 1394 Global War (3rd update, please subscribe)
What is global war?
That is, war is never started in a certain place, just like the empire declared war on the United States. According to the military's combat plan, the combat is not limited to the sea, but more importantly the land offensive.
Almost at the same time as the mobile fleet entered the designated take-off point, at the other end of the continent - in a valley in the Rocky Mountains of the Empire's North Sea Governorate, dozens of large airships filled the entire valley.
The roar of the engines echoed throughout the valley. These airships were obviously different from ordinary airships - two airplanes with spread wings were hanging under the huge airship cabin.
But the plane doesn't have an engine, it's a glider.
Below the glider was the assault team waiting to board.
"The goal of this mission is to land directly on the Nieube Fortress. This is the key to the success of this mission. If we cannot successfully occupy the fortress and capture the fortress garrison, then the entire operation will be declared a failure..."
In the nearby wooden warehouse, the commanding officers of the assault corps and squads were making the final combat deployment. They received the combat map and mission book. As early as the beginning of the formulation of the "Big Thunderstorm Operation Plan", the combat mission of capturing the fortress was to open up the Juan de Fuca Strait.
The Strait of Juan de Fuca is a large waterway 153 km (95 mi) long that serves as the main outlet to the Pacific Ocean from the Strait of Georgia and Puget Sound, as well as the Imperial Governorate of the Northern Seas.
Almost 20 years ago, in order to curb the expansion of the Empire, the Americans built the Nieube Fortress at the entrance of the Strait. The fortress is equipped with multiple coastal heavy artillery with a range of more than 300 mm. Once a war breaks out, the fortress heavy artillery can block the Strait and prevent the Empire's ships from entering and leaving the Strait, thereby weakening the Empire's power in the north. For this reason, capturing the fortress has become the top priority of the northern war.
This battle not only concerns the success or failure of the empire's northern operations, but also the ownership of the entire northern territory.
The sky above the valley was dotted with stars. Before setting off, the commando corps used the last few hours to make the necessary preparations. After writing their wills, these commandos who had become famous in the "Peru Campaign" listened to the final instructions from their superiors.
Then they checked the equipment one last time, including rifles, pistols, grenades, ammunition, first aid kits, field food, combat maps... In short, all the supplies needed for the battle had to be brought with them. Of course, they also carried a large amount of explosives - according to the requirements of the raid mission, they had to try their best to destroy the fortress's artillery during the raid, so that even if the mission failed, they could ensure that the fortress would be rendered useless.
The clock pointed to four o'clock. Although it was still dark, the troops on standby began to eat breakfast. Many of them knew that this might be the last breakfast in their lives.
After all, war always brings death.
And what about the commandos?
We have to fight in an encirclement!
Half an hour later, at 4:30 Eastern Time, 1,072 officers and soldiers of the Imperial Commando Corps began to board the glider. The dark-faced commandos always smiled at the cameras of the military reporters when they boarded the plane. Although many of them tried to make their expressions more solemn, they still smiled habitually when facing the camera.
However, no one will doubt their determination to complete the task!
The photographers accompanying the troops were also busy, using their cameras to faithfully record the expressions of the soldiers.
At 5:00 on April 21, the commandos who entered the glider sat on the canvas seats and prayed silently in their hearts...
Praying for the next "action"!
The entire valley was torn apart by the roar of the engine...
At 7:00 Eastern Time, a large group of airships arrived over Tianya Island (Vancouver Island). When they arrived, the troops encountered gusts of wind. The airships began to shake, and the gliders mounted under the cabins also began to sway up and down. The pilots in the gliders kept looking at the ground, ready to leave the airships at any time.
In the swaying glider cabin, the fully armed commandos seemed a little nervous, with serious eyes, smoking or thinking quietly. Standing in the aisle of the cabin, the captain of the second squadron, Sun Qichen, began to make the final mobilization.
"Brothers, everyone knows the importance of this mission. It is not only related to the victory of the empire's northern battlefield, but also to the ownership of the northern territory. If we fail, we will not only lose the battle, but also the 18 million compatriots in the northern territory will fall into the hands of the enemy...Okay, brothers, as your captain, I hope you will do your best in this battle! Doing your best is not only the duty of a soldier, but also our mission!... I wish you all good luck!"
After a brief mobilization, the captain sat back in his seat. Although the sun had not yet risen, the light from the stars and the moon allowed them to see the expressions of their brothers. Everyone's expressions were similarly serious and solemn.
In this silence, Sun Qichen turned his head and looked out the window. The strait was right in front of them - the fleet of boats had already flown over Tianya Island, and they were about to reach their destination.
What time is it now?
Sun Qichen looked at his watch. It was 7:15 in the morning, Eastern Time. According to Western Time, it was only four in the morning.
"What's our altitude?"
The captain of the airship asked the co-pilot.
"One thousand eight hundred meters!"
“How far is it from the goal?”
…
Finally, when they were about to approach the target, the captain pressed the button. When the green light came on inside the glider, the glider pilots knew that it was up to them now.
"Release the glider!"
At an altitude of 1,800 meters, assault gliders were released from under the airship like elves in the dark night.
The pilot of the glider tried his best to keep the glider stable. Not long after leaving the airship, the roar of the engine around the fuselage gradually faded. There was silence all around. In this strange silence, the glider, like a night elf, passed through the dark night sky and glided steadily towards its target.
There was no sound or movement, which was the biggest feature of a glider assault. Although it was very dark, the pilot of the pilot glider still saw the fortress on the Cape Peninsula, and after diving, he became horizontal, then made a 90-degree turn to the right and flew over the fortress.
Gazing at the dark night outside the cabin, Lu Chenggong, who was driving the glider, glanced at the white strip on the hidden coast. It was the foam of the waves hitting the coast. Their goal was above. In order to get as close to the fortress as possible, he pulled up the fuselage of his glider.
He successfully piloted the glider at an altitude of 100 meters and began to dive rapidly. In his sight, the ground suddenly bulged up, and the fields and trees below moved rapidly backwards at a speed of hundreds of kilometers per hour.
"Prepare"
With a shout, Lu successfully turned on the green light to prepare for landing.
The moment the green light came on, Sun Qijiuchen held his breath and shouted loudly.
“Hold tight!”
The two rows of commandos sitting in the cabin of the glider held each other's arms and sat together with their feet off the ground, waiting for the coming impact.
The old group is down, so I created a new book club group: 739209015. Everyone is welcome to join and discuss and deduce the plot together.
