Early in the morning, Wu Changyun and Fushun changed their route and took an extra bus to the set. If it weren't for the help of their neighbors last night, they would still be lying in the hospital.
The filming set is relatively safe. Not only are there a lot of recording equipment, but there are also security personnel at the entrance. Communication is convenient, and the police can arrive quickly if something happens. Today is a big day for the crew. Huang Zhengli, who traveled across the ocean, finally arrived on the set. After some hard work over the past period of time, the entire film is already very complete.
In the second half, the protagonist will have a final duel with Huang Zhengli, who plays the Japanese, in a shipyard. A large part of the fighting scenes between the two take place on the beams five or six meters above the ground.
"Director Wu, please be careful when you go up there." Du Qifeng looked at the beams while speaking.
"Okay, I will."
Despite protective measures, the jumble of wooden stakes and beams was prone to collisions, and the complex on-set environment made accidents unavoidable. Huang Zhengli was also somewhat cautious about this shoot, having not anticipated such an environment. However, as a martial artist from a foreign country, he demonstrated exceptional professionalism. The crew was surprised by Huang Zhengli's performance; normally, if such a dangerous scene hadn't been clearly stated in advance, the person involved could have simply refused.
Wu Changyun was the only one in the crowd who was not surprised, because he knew that Huang Zhengli was cut out to be an actor.
Both of them had safety ropes hanging from their backs. It was their first time standing on the beam. Wu Changyun looked at the beam that was only wide enough for one foot to stand on.
"This is exciting."
It has to be said that this kind of play requires very high basic skills from the martial artist, who must be steady and accurate and show sufficient strength.
Wu Changyun knew that once the fight started, he couldn't worry about the height, otherwise his moves would be like a weak shrimp. Wu Changyun made an OK gesture to the audience, and Du Qifeng shouted to start the camera.
Huang Zhengli stepped on the beams alternately, approaching Wu Changyun. When he was close, he delivered a kick. The two men attacked and defended with their legs, shifting their steps back and forth. After a few rounds, Wu Changyun realized this might not be effective. He wondered how Huang Zhengli hadn't made any mistakes in the past few rounds, while he was barely able to stand even with his passive defense.
Little did they know that Huang Zhengli had the same idea at the time, and the two of them were competing with each other in some way.
The two men fought more and more fiercely. Wu Changyun grabbed the pillar with one hand and stepped on another beam. Huang Zhengli followed up and kicked him again. Wu Changyun had no time to look back and could only retreat based on his feeling.
"Click!" Du Qifeng shouted from below.
This kind of fighting scene is very physically demanding, so the two were temporarily put down. Looking at the scene that had just been filmed, Wu Changyun sighed.
"I'm still too hesitant. My moves should be more smooth and decisive." Because of the height, the two had to maintain balance while making their moves. It looked like they were in cahoots, waiting for the other to make a move. That wasn't right. Furthermore, Wu Changyun had very high standards for action scenes in previous shoots, so if he faltered in this sequence, it would be particularly noticeable in the comparison.
“That won’t work.”
Huang Zhengli quickly summarized the problem just now. In fact, these words were not just for him, because Wu Changyun was also facing the same problem.
The camera is at a high level with the two people, so every movement of the two people can be seen clearly.
"Come on." Wu Changyun prepared himself again.
This time Huang Zhengli did not hesitate, and raised his calf like a sharp arrow. Wu Changyun did not care about anything else and could only counterattack as if it were flat ground. After several rounds of fighting, both of their legs were bruised and purple. They fell down several times along the way, but fortunately the safety measures were in place.
The day ended with such a high-intensity fight scene, however, the next day was the same as before, with the same scene.
This stunt fight took three full days to film, and on the third day, the two finally breathed a sigh of relief, finally being able to descend from that damned rafter. Wu Changyun double-checked all the footage to ensure there wouldn't be any problems in post-production. Seeing Huang Zhengli sighing with relief, Wu Changyun couldn't bear it.
"Well, there's another scene, it's on that one." Wu Changyun pointed to the two-meter-high dye vat filled with blue dye.
The two men did not speak the same language. When Huang Zhengli saw what Wu Changyun was pointing at, before the translator could interpret it, the joy on his face was mixed with an expression of suffering.
In this scene, Wu Changyun has to jump onto the dye vat first to gain a firm footing, and then dodge the two minions chasing him from behind. After the two minions fall into the dye vat, Wu Changyun needs to step on the edge of the dye vat to move to the other side, and then he and Huang Zhengli struggle to maintain balance, and then punch each other. In the end, both of them fell to the middle because they couldn't maintain their balance. In the process of falling, they pushed each other. No one wanted to fall into the dye vat. Wu Changyun jumped out with the reaction force of pushing Huang Zhengli. Huang Zhengli needed to step on the shoulders of the minion who had just fallen into the dye vat to jump out.
This is a very funny action scene. The movement of the two people's feet is restricted at the edge of the dye vat, and they seem to be pushing each other into the dye vat. Huang Bingyao's inspiration for designing this action came from a childhood game.
"OK, I'm ready." Wu Changyun looked at the edge of the dye vat. There was a rope around his waist to help Wu Changyun find balance during filming. The staff would stand below and pull Wu Changyun out, so even if he used too much force, he must not use too little force, otherwise he would be pulled out by the staff.
"Is it okay? Do we need a stand-in for this scene?" Huang Bingyao came over and asked. After all, it was he who designed this scene.
To be honest, every step was difficult. First of all, it was difficult to stand firmly after jumping onto the dye vat. It almost depended on luck. Then Wu Changyun needed to roll over twice to avoid the people chasing him from behind.
Wu Changyun mentally calculated that the entire scene, from jumping down, to rolling around to the dye vat, and shoving each other with the villain played by Huang Zhengli, could be shot in one take. Normally, Wu Changyun would applaud when he saw such a shot, but now it was really going to kill him.
"No need, I can do it." Wu Changyun agreed.
The film was turned on here, and Wu Changyun jumped towards the dye vat. Just as he stepped on the edge of the dye vat, the minions behind him pounced on him. Wu Changyun dodged smoothly the first time, and with a "splash", the liquid splashed from the dye vat sprayed Wu Changyun all over. When Wu Changyun turned over the second time, he was grabbed by the ferocious extras. Fortunately, there was a rope tied around his waist, and one of his feet was soaked in the dye.
The actors were all pulled out and quickly washed with hoses. Although the dye was replaced with other liquids by the props team, it was still uncomfortable to be soaked.
"Liuzi, can I act for you?" Fushun has been working on security issues on the set recently. Seeing that Wu Changyun was in a terrible state, he came over.
"You are obviously wider than me, so it's definitely not possible. When you have nothing to do, come here and learn more. Maybe you can lead a group for filming in the future." Wu Changyong said as he wiped the blue dye off his face with a towel.
"I'm not interested. Just take care of these things. I'll help you keep an eye on the place."
"Okay, thank you for your hard work." Seeing that Fushun was not interested in this, Wu Changyun did not force him anymore. He would let Fushun take over when there were other businesses in the future. He couldn't let his brother suffer losses.
