As the Spring Festival approaches, residents of Kowloon Walled City have begun to decorate their homes with lights and colorful lanterns. Looking up in the narrow passage, a colorful sign for a screening room hangs on the fifth floor. Young men are coming and going in the building, shirtless, arm in arm with each other.
Two of them looked particularly different. One had a simple appearance and was carrying a backpack, while the other was wearing a windbreaker and sunglasses. The two walked side by side towards the screening room upstairs.
"Sister Zhou, there's no need for that. Aren't we working too hard?" The honest man was named Mao Yu, and he was an intern reporter for Ta Kung Pao.
"Do you want to become a full-time employee?" Zhou Huiting asked in a low voice. Previously, thanks to Wu Changyun's connections, Zhou Huiting was introduced to Ta Kung Pao and became a formal reporter with her excellent and decisive approach.
"Yes." Mao Yu replied.
"Let's go." Zhou Huiting took Mao Yu to the screening room on the fifth floor.
A security guard with his hair loose and wearing a flowered shirt was standing outside the door. After looking at the two of them, he took the admission fee from Mao Yu and turned to signal them that they could go in.
After entering the room, there were three rooms with curtains blocking the way. An elderly woman glanced at the two of them and asked, "What movie are you watching?"
Zhou Huiting was in this kind of place for the first time, so she couldn't name it. Mao Yu pointed at the poster of a female celebrity hanging on the wall and said, "That one."
The old woman curled her lips in disdain. The poster was actually bought and hung up by her son. She immediately pointed to a door curtain and let the two of them in.
As soon as Zhou Huiting opened the door curtain, she smelled the pungent smell, cigarette smoke mixed with disgusting body odor. The shirtless man inside put his feet on the chair, and all kinds of unbearable sounds came and went.
It was Mao Yu's first time watching such a short film, and he was so shy that he couldn't move. Zhou Huiting pulled him aside, and they found a place in the corner to sit down. Zhou Huiting touched the camera in her handbag. In such a dim environment, she didn't know how the filming effect would be.
Recently, many private screening rooms have opened in Kowloon Walled City, and the films shown in them are also varied. Some are foreign R-rated films, while others are from informal film workshops.
Zhou Huiting suspects that many recent cases of missing girls are related to the screening room, and this kind of undercover investigation method is also her usual style.
The screening rooms that have appeared recently are all under the management of a registered company called Sanhe. From the outside, it looks like a small shop with a sign that says "repair shop". Its main business is to repair equipment such as cameras and watches, and it also sells some electronic equipment.
"Boss, my watch isn't working. Can you take a look at it and see if I need to change the battery?"
"Okay." Yi Zhangyu stood behind the counter and took the watch handed to him by the customer.
"My child bought me this watch when he went abroad. It suddenly stopped working. Please help me take a good look at it."
Yi Zhangyu methodically disassembled the watch. The dial inside was old and loose, but the other parts looked new.
"This can't be repaired, maybe I can get you a new dial."
This watch is not as expensive as the old man said. It can be considered a branded product, but the brand's reputation has always been poor. The workmanship is poor and the repair rate is high. Moreover, due to the high cost of repair, the manufacturer will also entrust small shops like this one that sell their own brand products to do after-sales repairs.
"That's okay too."
After getting the old man's consent, Yi Zhangyu took the watch to the studio inside, installed a new dial in a few seconds, and planned to return it to the old man again.
"The labor cost is five dollars."
The old man lowered his head and fiddled with his watch, as if he didn't hear what Yi Zhangyu said. He muttered, "This watch strap is wrong. My watch strap used to be cowhide, but this is leather."
Yi Zhangyu frowned upon hearing this, and looked at the old man with a hint of annoyance. At this moment, his mobile phone rang. After answering the call, a man's anxious voice came from the phone: "Brother, the newly captured woman is disobedient and can't be restrained."
"Really? Did you take the photo?"
"We did take pictures while she was unconscious, but she couldn't be frightened and she bit the third child."
Yi Zhangyu was silent for a while. The old man looked a little embarrassed and kept saying that he had replaced the watch strap under the pretext of repairing it.
Yi Zhangyu wanted to say that he should sell the woman, but before he could say anything, he looked up and saw the old man in front of him pointing at his nose and complaining non-stop. Yi Zhangyu frowned and after a moment's thought, he replied, "I might have something to do later. Let's put her in a cement tank and sink her in the river."
The old man standing in front of Yi Zhangyu heard this and his hand holding the watch shook uncontrollably twice. Just as he was about to turn around, Yi Zhangyu grabbed him.
"I don't want to repair it anymore." The old man said tremblingly.
"Isn't it repaired? Maybe I saw it wrong just now. I'll change your original watch strap back." Yi Zhangyu held the old man's somewhat cold hand and led him into the inner room.
The old man took these few steps with fear, and the deeper he went, the colder he felt on his back.
The room inside was furnished with a welding workbench, test meters, and various electrical components. The room was dark, and between two bookshelves was a pile of plastic sheeting. Yi Zhangyu pulled back the sheeting, revealing a hidden door.
"I don't want to practice anymore, I don't want to practice anymore, I'm leaving." The old man pulled hard, trying to escape from Yi Zhangyu's hands, but the other party was too strong and he couldn't break free at all.
The floor of the room further inside was covered with plastic sheets, and two white photography lights were clamped on both sides of the sofa.
The old man accidentally caught a glimpse of a tied-up girl in the corner. Her skirt was pulled down to her knees, and blood was oozing from the corners of her mouth where the hemp rope had been tied. Her hair was disheveled and stained with liquid on the ground. A thin man was standing in front of the girl, turning his head to look at the old man.
