Chapter 4 Skills

Li Xu knew what Hu Guilan was going to say.

Then he said, "Sister-in-law, don't worry, the food came from a good source, it wasn't stolen or robbed."

"Then where did you get all this rice? It looks like there are about 5 or 6 kilograms, which is not a small amount." Hu Guilan was still a little worried.

"Sister-in-law, you have a very good eye. It's a full 5 kilograms of rice. But you can't tell me how you got it." Li Xu responded with a raised eyebrow.

In fact, Li Xu also understood why others wanted to dig into his affairs. Food was so precious these days, and he was only 15 years old. Moreover, he had been playful and naughty in the past. How could his family be at ease with him?

Li Xu had anticipated this, so he prepared a response.

"Oh, sister-in-law, don't ask me anymore. There's absolutely no problem with the origin of the rice. I'll explain it to you when my parents come back in the evening." Li Xu wanted to wait until the evening to explain it to everyone, so he said;

"Sister-in-law, please cook some rice tonight. We can use this rice so that everyone can have a good meal."

Hu Guilan hesitated to speak, and could only respond, "Okay, I'll burn some tonight, and you can explain it to me in the evening."

After saying that, Hu Guilan took the rice and went into the kitchen.

Li Xu looked down at Li Ju, who was looking at him with sparkling eyes, and asked:

"We have white rice tonight. Are you happy, little sister?"

"I'm happy. I haven't eaten white rice for a long time." Li Ju also shouted loudly with an excited expression on her face.

"Keep your voice down. Remember, from now on, don't tell anyone outside what you eat at home. Is that clear?" Li Xu was also busy educating Li Ju, fearing that one day he would sign in for some good things for his family to enjoy, and Li Ju would tell anyone outside.

"Why can't I say it?" Li Ju was still a little confused.

"Of course, if you tell someone, you'll never be able to eat it again."

"Then grandparents can't tell them either?" Li Ju still asked.

"Even grandparents can't tell. Remember?"

"Oh, I remember. I will never tell others what I ate in the future." Although Li Ju didn't understand, she still responded obediently.

"Okay, that's enough. Just remember it and be a good boy." Li Xu also smiled.

After playing with Li Ju for a while, family members who went to work and school returned home one after another.

When everyone arrived, they sat at the table and talked while waiting for the meal to start.

Several dishes were already placed on the table, including pickled radish strips, sweet potato leaves that were cooked with only a few drops of oil, and some unknown wild vegetables.

Hu Guilan and Sun Xiu each brought in a basin filled with the main course for dinner.

Everyone stopped talking at this time and looked at the two of them, or to be more precise, at the rice bowls in their hands.

Li Xu saw it clearly, and Sun Xiu even glared at him when she came in.

Li Xu also felt puzzled. When the meal was placed on the table, everyone was shocked and looked at each other.

As the male host of the house, Li Jiakang asked first:

"Where did you get so much rice at home? Why are there both rice and porridge today?"

Before Hu Guilan could speak, Sun Xiu opened the door first, with a hint of hostility in her tone:

"Then you'd have to ask your good son. He brought back 5 kilograms of rice today and asked us to have white rice tonight."

"Ah, this, my son? Which son?" Li Jiakang didn't react for a moment and asked quickly.

"Which son could it be? Which of your sons is free to be at home?" Sun Xiu's tone made Li Xu feel something was wrong.

Li Jiakang suddenly realized what was going on, and everyone turned their attention to Li Xu.

Li Xu suddenly felt uneasy, his hair standing on end under everyone's stares. He wanted to speak but didn't know what to say, so he could only chuckle and say, "Everyone, stop looking at me, eat."

But no one picked up their chopsticks and everyone asked where the rice came from.

Li Xu was also dizzy from the noise and said hurriedly, "Everyone, eat first. I'll explain it to you after we finish eating. All you need to know is that this thing was not stolen or robbed."

"No, explain it to me now." Li Jiakang slammed the table and shouted, "You little bastard, you want to eat without explaining it to me? I'll treat you to a full meal of sticks."

After hearing this roar, everyone immediately quieted down.

Li Xu's scalp suddenly tingled. The sticks at home were mainly used against him, so he quickly said, "I will definitely explain it to you clearly. How about this, Xiaochen, you take my little sister out first, and I'll tell everyone."

Li Xu was also afraid that the two little ones would go outside and say something they shouldn’t say after hearing what he said, causing trouble, so he asked them to go out and wait for a while.

Upon hearing this, Li Chen glanced at Li Xu with some resentment, then turned his gaze to Li Jiakang.

Li Jiakang immediately understood that at this time, adults should be careful when talking to children, because they are afraid that children will talk nonsense outside. So he nodded and said,

"Go ahead and wait outside with your sister for a few minutes."

Li Chen stood up reluctantly after hearing this, took Li Ju's hand and walked out. Before leaving, they both looked at the rice on the table with longing eyes.

"I got this rice from a friend outside. You don't need food coupons. Just buy it with money." Li Xu said immediately after seeing the two of them leave.

"Friend, where did you get a friend with such great ability? Besides, where did you get the money to buy it?" After hearing what Li Xu said, Li Jiakang's eyes widened even more, and he stared at Li Xu and uttered a few words through his teeth.

It’s worth mentioning that although the five children of the Li family look average, with ordinary faces, neither good-looking nor ugly, their eyes are exactly the same as Li Jiakang’s, with double eyelids and big eyes.

As everyone knows, eyes that are wide open look more scary.

Li Xu was also startled, his body trembled, and he said with a stiff upper lip:

"Dad, don't be angry.

You don't know all my friends, and besides, I really don't have that much money. Even if you didn't ask me, I would have told you this. I've given you some money, and I'm still short of 3 yuan, waiting for you."

"Then tell me where this man came from and where this rice came from." Li Jiakang blurted out a few more words.

"I can't say much more, I just know he's doing some scalping work on the black market."

The black market is where people trade privately. Most of the time, they use money to buy or barter items. However, it is illegal for private individuals to do these things during this period, so people usually gather in the middle of the night. Over time, the gathering place becomes a black market.

Although the black market is illegal, it is created because of people's needs, so many people have been to the black market, and the people above them turn a blind eye. After all, sometimes they have to go to the black market to get something they urgently need.
