The weather is getting colder.
Wang Erhu's heart was colder than the weather.
Last time at Zhou Lanhua's house, Wang Erhu failed to confess his love and was scolded by Qiuhua. Several days have passed since then, and he is still listless.
"What are you doing in bed all day, you little monkey? Is your leg broken or are you paralyzed? There's no other boy like you in the village!"
Every day there was almost the same muttering outside the door. Only after it was over did my father have the energy to go to work.
Wang Erhu covered himself with the quilt, but his stomach started to growl.
"Don't yell! I can't get up!"
He had no place to vent his anger, so he was angry with his stomach. He felt like he was torn into pieces, his heart was broken in one place, and his stomach was hungry in another.
“Gurgle…Gurgle…”
"That's enough!" Wang Erhu angrily threw back the quilt and sat up, "I won't starve you to death!"
There was a bowl of porridge and pickles on the table. Wang Erhu poured all the pickles into the bowl, stirred it with chopsticks, picked up the bowl and drank it all in one gulp.
After drinking, he smacked his lips, but he still felt hungry.
How could he not know what the situation was at home?
There have been bumper harvests in the countryside for several years, so Wang Erhu's family has no problem having enough food to eat, but they lack meat and vegetables. Every morning they have white porridge and pickles.
After finishing his meal, he moved a small stool and sat in front of the door, thinking again and again.
My sister is right. You should get married and start a career. If you don’t have a career, who will get married with you?
But what has that boy accomplished that makes my sister wait for him so wholeheartedly?
Maybe when I find a way to live my life, my sister will like me!
Anyway, in the final analysis, Wang Erhu just didn't take Wu Xin seriously.
If he wanted to find a job, staying at home wouldn't do, so Wang Erhu decided to go out.
The streets were bustling with people coming and going, and the air was filled with life. Wang Erhu walked from one end of the street to the other, and he felt full of energy.
He saw people opening shops, without having to work in the sun or the wind, and at most just standing at the door and shouting for a while, and when business came, it seemed like they could make a lot of money;
He saw people setting up stalls, without having to pay rent, and they could just open any stall and start doing business, so it seemed very simple;
He also saw people helping others with manual labor. They didn't have to pay rent or any costs, they just needed their own strength, so it was a huge profit without any investment!
"Are you going to buy it or not? You've been wandering around here for quite some time!"
The person who spoke was a small vendor, dark and stocky. He had a cigarette in his mouth, which he never took out while speaking, and his cigarette swayed up and down as he spoke.
Wang Erhu didn't pay attention for a moment and stepped on some vegetables on the edge of the stall.
"What's wrong with you?"
The small vendor stood up. He was not tall but very strong. He pushed Wang Erhu on the shoulder and almost made him fall.
"Why did you push me? I didn't mean to do that!"
Wang Erhu was not convinced and replied.
"Why, you stepped on my food and you're still polite?"
He bent down, picked up the vegetables, threw them at Wang Erhu and said, "You paid for these vegetables!"
"You're forcing me to buy you something! I don't have any money!"
This is the truth, he doesn't have a penny on him.
"No money, right..." The small vendor looked at him viciously. As soon as he finished speaking, five or six vendors stood up around him and stared at him like jackals.
Wang Erhu took two steps back, knowing that the situation was not good. A brave man never suffers a loss, so he ran away.
The people behind ran all the way to catch up. On one side was Wang Erhu, who often slept until noon, and on the other side was a small vendor with muscular body who got up early and worked late every day. In a short while, Wang Erhu was pinned to the ground.
"Brother Wang, give him a few punches!" someone shouted.
"Bang bang bang" the fists fell like raindrops. Wang Erhu was unable to resist and all the bones in his body were dislocated.
"Stop fighting, stop fighting, we are all surnamed Wang, we are from the same family!"
"Who the hell is your relative? I'm giving you face!" Another beating.
Wang Erhu was punched several times in the face and blood gushed out of his nose. For a moment, he felt like he was going to see the King of Hell.
"What are you doing?" Fortunately, a few policemen passed by, otherwise I would have died here today.
Seeing this, the street vendors scattered.
Wang Erhu refused to go to the hospital and limped back home.
Now that's what happened. He was originally trying to cheer himself up and find a job, but after being beaten, he became even more depressed.
"Son, can't you just follow daddy and farm the land obediently?" Mom sat beside his bed, looking at his dark eyes and couldn't help crying.
Wang Erhu turned around with his back to her in annoyance.
"Can't we just live a down-to-earth life and avoid causing trouble? When your injury heals, Mom will find a matchmaker for you..."
"I don't want it!" Wang Erhu turned around and spoke to his mother without any politeness. "Why would you farm? Is there any future for you?"
When his mother talked back to him, she started to cry again.
"Then what are you talking about? Your father and I were quite old when we had you. Look at how hurt you are. You're digging my heart out..."
As he spoke, he started crying again. Wang Erhu was annoyed and buried his head in the quilt.
"Alright, alright, stop crying. Let me calm down for two days, okay? Ok, no, no!"
His yelling made his mother stop crying and she could only sob softly.
After about ten days of care, Wang Erhu finally got out of bed. He moved a bench and sat in front of the door. Wang Liu was planting vegetables in the yard.
Wang Erhu muttered to himself: What's the point of growing these vegetables? They can't be exchanged for meat. I'm eating them every day and my stomach is turning green.
Change meat?
Some ideas suddenly came to his mind.
Yes, can we exchange them for meat? How? Of course, we sell them first, and then use the money to buy meat!
He suddenly found inspiration and almost jumped up with excitement.
The vegetables are readily available at home, grown by his mom and dad, so he doesn't have to go to the fields himself. Wang Erhu just needs to find a place on the street and set up a small stall. Isn't that how he can make money?
That's the truth!
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became. He paced at the door, rubbing his hands, and his heart was like fireworks.
But where can I set up a stall? After much deliberation, I decided that if I wanted people to buy, I had to set up my stall on the street.
Setting up a street stall would mean competing with Wang's gang of small vendors! I guess I'd get my legs broken before I could even sell any vegetables.
Wang Erhu finally found a job that suits him, and he didn't want to give up easily.
He had to find a way to take down that group of vendors.
Judging from their accents, they are not locals, but they have been here for some years. There are gangs and factions around them, and he cannot deal with them alone.
It definitely won’t work if you use force.
How about the soft one?
Wang Erhu sat in front of the door for an entire afternoon before he gradually came up with an idea.
