Chapter 161 Portrait Embroidery

At the beginning of this semester, Wu Xin changed the frequency of writing letters from one week to one month.

The college entrance examination is next year, and this is Qiuhua’s request, hoping that he can focus on studying.

Qiuhua's life is also very fulfilling. She embroiders one piece after another, and sometimes has to rush the work. She does both mental and physical labor at the same time, and her heart is filled with joy.

Not long after the beginning of autumn, the weather started to get colder. One morning, the master got up early and went out without wearing a coat to enjoy the cool air. When he came back, he sneezed several times.

Zhou Shengnan became anxious when he heard this and immediately started to boil ginger tea.

Brown sugar ginger tea can dispel the cold. Holding it in your hand, the fragrant ginger tea warms your hands and your heart.

"You are not a child anymore. The dew is heavy when you get up early. How can you go out without clothes?" Zhou Shengnan complained with a frown, and buttoned her clothes carefully.

"It's okay, I'll just be out for a while."

Jiang Xiang giggled like a child who had never grown up. Right after she finished speaking, she felt her nose itchy. She glanced at Zhou Shengnan secretly and tried hard to suppress the sneeze that was about to come out.

"Tsk!" He finally couldn't help it and shook his head slightly like a kitten sneezing.

The ginger tea in my hand rippled slightly.

"How come you're okay? Look, that sneeze is from something like that. You must have caught a cold. If you get sick, how can you finish the task on time?"

After hearing this, the smile on Jiang Xiang's face faded and was replaced by a serious expression. Zhou Shengnan knew that only by talking about embroidery could he make her serious.

She blew on the bowl, took a sip and found it was just the right temperature. She gulped it down in one gulp. It was sweet at first and spicy at the end, and her stomach felt very comfortable.

"I'm sure I won't get sick after drinking this bowl of ginger tea." Jiang Xiang seemed to be comforting herself, "But I must not delay important things."

The important thing she mentioned started half a month ago.

That day, the hall master called Jiang Xiang to the embroidery hall, saying that there was something important.

When she arrived, she found that the hall master was waiting for her inside. He was mysterious and didn't say anything. He just said that he was waiting for an important person.

About half an hour later, someone pushed the door open. It was two tall young men. After opening the door, they stood outside and did not come in, waiting for the two older people behind them to come in.

Jiang Xiang was confused, but seeing the hall master's respectful look, she knew that these two people were of great importance.

From listening to their conversation, I found out that they were going to embroider a portrait of an important person.

Portraits are the most challenging and time-consuming embroidery styles. Why is this so difficult? Embroidering a figure requires not only capturing the specific outline but also, more importantly, capturing the facial expression.

This important and difficult task was given to Jiang Xiang. Qiuhua was proud of her master and was also happy to be able to learn from him.

Time is tight and the task is heavy, so Jiang Xiang starts a new task immediately after finishing the work at hand. So far, she has been embroidering for thirteen days.

It is estimated that it will take half a year to complete this portrait embroidery.

There is an old saying that goes, "What you fear will come to you."

Jiang Xiang coughed a few times in the morning, but it was nothing serious. After dinner, the master and apprentice continued to embroider.

Not long after, the master yawned three times in a row, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes. She laughed at herself for not getting enough sleep last night and said, "Look how sleepy I am. I hope I don't infect you with my yawns."

Qiuhua twisted the thread and slowly threaded it through the needle. She said, "Master, why don't you go get some sleep? I'll call you in an hour. Sharpening the knife doesn't delay the chopping of wood."

"No, Master, I don't have the habit of taking a nap. I'll wake up once the lazy bug flies away."

Having said that, the master kept yawning and his hand movements were much slower than usual.

"Why is it so cold today?" The master stood up and took a thin blanket and put it on his shoulders.

Qiuhua was wearing a thin shirt with a knitted vest on the outside. She didn't feel cold at all, and even felt a little warm on her neck.

She noticed something was wrong with her master and asked, "Master, do you have a fever?"

As he said this, he touched her forehead with one hand and put the other hand on his own forehead for comparison. Well, it was indeed hotter.

"It's hot, Master, go and take a rest."

Qiuhua urged Jiang Xiang to get up and lie down in the room. She then made a bowl of ginger tea and brought the thermos into the room.

I was still thinking that Qiuhua was making a big deal out of nothing and that I could just sleep for an hour. I didn't know when Jiang Xiang fell asleep and didn't even have time to drink the ginger tea.

I didn't sleep well, it was like I was half asleep, and my head was flashing like a kaleidoscope. As for what I dreamed about, I couldn't remember or explain it at all.

I woke up in a daze and felt my limbs were soft and sore, and every bone and joint was uncomfortable.

Jiang Xiang felt that she had slept for a long time, so she got up, put on her clothes, and drank the ginger tea.

"Qiuhua, what time is it?"

"Master, why are you up? You've only slept for less than an hour."

Jiang Xiang was stunned. It seemed like her brain had been spinning for a century in her dream, but it turned out that only less than an hour had passed!

She touched her forehead. Her palms and soles were burning hot, but she couldn't feel any temperature difference on her forehead. But the few steps she took from the bed to the outside felt like walking on cotton.

Finally realizing that she was sick with a fever, Jiang Xiang lay back on the bed obediently without waiting for her little apprentice to nag her.

Qiuhua came to check on her from time to time and poured boiling water into her cup. After drinking a few cups of warm water, Jiang Xiang fell into sleep again in a daze.

When I woke up next time, my neck and back were covered with sweat.

It's good to sweat, the fever will go away tomorrow.

The next day I didn’t feel so hot, but I still felt a little weak. I guess it was because I had a fever yesterday and I didn’t have any strength in my body.

"Cough cough..." After coughing several times in a row, Zhou Shengnan could no longer sit still.

"Your fever just subsided, but your cough started again. You haven't recovered yet. I'll take you to the hospital!"

Jiang Xiang stubbornly refused to go. She sat down in front of the embroidery frame and began to thread her needle, saying, "Do you really need to see a doctor for such a minor problem? It's not that serious."

"You're just worried you won't have enough time to embroider it! Your health is more important. Go ahead, I'll take you there right away."

Zhou Shengnan took his things and went outside to push his bicycle. Jiang Xiang ignored him and twisted the needle with her orchid finger. She had already given several injections.

When he came back to find her, he knew that once she started embroidering, he couldn't persuade her anymore!

Three days passed like this. There were constant coughing sounds in the room, and Jiang Xiang's condition was not very good. When she touched her forehead, it seemed that there was some temperature, but it was not.

Zhou Shengnan brought back some loquat juice that someone had cooked. It has the effect of moistening the lungs and relieving coughs. After drinking it, he did feel a lot more comfortable in his throat, but it was only a temporary solution and he couldn't stop coughing after a while.

Finally, Zhou Shengnan took the man to the hospital with half persuasion and half resistance.

The doctor looked at the medical records, sighed, and said, "Let's admit him to the hospital today. Pneumonia."
