Qiuhua opened her eyes drowsily in the morning and wanted to get out of bed.
Pain shot through every part of her body and she fell back onto the bed.
Her mind gradually cleared up and she recalled when she fell asleep last night.
To be precise, she didn't remember at all. Wu Xin was full of energy, and she didn't know how many times she was so tired that she fell asleep.
Thinking of this, her face turned hot and she buried her head in the quilt.
"Are you awake?" the instigator asked softly.
"Hmm..." she answered in a muffled voice.
Wu Xin lifted the quilt and said, "Are you hungry? Do you want to get up?"
"You go out first."
"What's going on? You have to avoid me before you can get up?"
"Please go out first... I'm afraid you'll..."
Wu Xin was irritated. His rationality overcame his wildness and he said, "Then come down quickly. Breakfast is getting cold."
When Qiuhua came downstairs, he found that he was the last one to get up. There were hot soy milk, fried dough sticks and buns on the table.
After drinking the last sip of soy milk, the aunt took away the dishes and chopsticks. Qiuhua always felt a little uncomfortable at this time.
The young farm girl couldn't get used to the life of having food and clothes provided for her.
After packing up, the two were about to go out when there was a knock on the door.
"Dad Dong, Dad Dong, it's me!"
The quiet morning was broken by lively sounds.
Dad adjusted his glasses and seemed to frown slightly.
Wu Xin opened the door and saw a melon-faced young woman standing outside with her hair tied up high behind her head.
She was wearing a leather jacket and leather shoes that reached down to her knees.
"Wu..."
It can be seen that she obviously did not expect that there was someone standing next to Wu Xin.
She looked Qiuhua up and down, and finally stopped her gaze on the two people's tightly held hands.
"She is?" The smile on her face disappeared.
"This is the granddaughter-in-law I told you about," Dad introduced.
"Qiuhua, this is Wu Xin's classmate and my friend's granddaughter, Qiao Nan."
"Hello!" Qiao Nan extended his hand.
In just a few seconds, her face went from excitement to surprise, to disappointment, and then suddenly regained her composure.
Qiuhua was not wrong, there was a hint of provocation in her eyes.
"Hello." Qiuhua extended her hand.
"Nannan, come in. The young couple is about to go out. Please talk to me." Dad patted Wu Xin lightly.
Wu Xin pulled Qiu Hua out to make room for her, but Qiao Nan did not move.
"Nannan...Nannan!" Dad called her.
"Ah, Father Dong, I won't go in. I just came to pass on a message. Please invite you and Wu Xin to dinner at home tonight." Qiao Nan said and prepared to leave.
Dad stopped her and said, "Nannan, I will definitely be there tonight. Wu Xin won't be there. It's rare for a young couple to have time."
"How can that be? My father and my dad specifically asked us to invite Wu Xin along. If he doesn't go, I won't have completed my mission. Can you bear to let me get scolded?
They have plenty of time to be together, but we haven't eaten together for a long time. Father Dong, why don't you bring him here!"
Father frowned slightly. Qiao Nan wanted to invite Wu Xin but never mentioned taking Qiuhua along. He had watched his daughter grow up and understood her temperament.
"Don't worry, your father and grandpa will understand. If things don't work out, I can help you explain it. It's not your fault."
Qiao Nan's face darkened when he heard this, and he said goodbye and left.
The bus smelled strongly of oil. Qiuhua opened the window a little, and a fresh breeze came in. She immediately felt much more comfortable in her nose and chest.
"Do we still need to go to school?" Qiuhua asked.
Wu Xin held her hand tightly and said, "I really can't hide it from you.
Qiao Nan is only one of the reasons. The main reason is that I really want to take you out for a walk. You've come to Shanghai so many times, but you've only stayed a few days and left. I haven't taken you to see the school yet."
Qiuhua looked out the window silently.
She thought of the past Xie Wan.
The two are very different, and perhaps the only similarity is Wu Xin.
"Why, are you worried about me?" Wu Xin asked.
Qiu Hua shook her head: "Don't worry."
"Oh," he sighed, "I don't know whether I should be happy or angry."
"Silly." Qiuhua said with a smile.
The bus drove for about a quarter of an hour and Wu Xin and Qiu Hua got off the station.
The two walked around the school, and when it was time for class, Wu Xin prepared to pull Qiuhua into the classroom.
Qiuhua refused on the principle of not disturbing his studies.
There is a lake on campus, and groups of college students are gathered around the lake. Wu Xin is teaching a class, but they are not using the lake. Qiuhua finds it strange.
"You've never been to college, right? Does it feel new to you?"
At some point, Qiao Nan appeared in front of her.
"Yes, I haven't been here." Qiuhua smiled at her politely.
Qiao Nan stood with his arms crossed and said, "Wu Xin said he was married, and I thought he was lying."
"If you knew him, you'd know he wouldn't lie to you about something like that."
Qiao Nan's expression changed slightly, but quickly recovered.
"But even though you're husband and wife, you don't see each other as much as your classmates do! People change, especially after seeing the world."
Qiuhua turned his gaze away from the lake and looked directly into her eyes.
Qiao Nan made no secret of his provocation.
"Unfortunately, Wu Xin is very wary of others. If he doesn't want to, he will be very cold even if I see him every day."
It was obvious that the word "cold" hurt Qiao Nan, and she felt a little embarrassed.
"Wu Xin is a college student now, he's knowledgeable and cultured. What about you? You're just a country bumpkin, uneducated and low-class. He's already tired of you and despised you. You should have some self-awareness!"
Qiuhua didn't expect that she was too lazy to pretend and just spoke harshly to her.
Every word he said touched her heart about studying, and even the best-tempered person couldn't hold it in anymore.
Seeing the smile on her face, Qiao Nan felt that he had won and spoke again proudly:
"Wu Xin will definitely stay in Shanghai, and you, coming from the countryside, will definitely be a drag.
You may not know this, but my father is a professor here, Wu Xin's teacher, and he's the director of the hospital."
Qiuhua curled the corners of her mouth and laughed out of anger.
Is this the mermaid from the big city?
He spoke with confidence, but was quite impolite.
"How many years have you been working hard on Wu Xin? Oh, could it be that he's been studying for three years, and you've spent three years working on him?"
"So what?"
"Three years ago, we weren't married yet, so your efforts were in vain. Let alone three years later."
Qiu Hua spoke slowly and calmly, which made Qiao Nan seem aggressive.
"You can get divorced even if you get married." She spoke without thinking and was very unreasonable.
"Wu Xin and I are both from the countryside. The word divorce doesn't exist in our dictionary. You city people are more advanced and talk about marriage and divorce casually."
"You!" Qiao Nan didn't expect that he would be speechless because of the country bumpkin in front of him who looked down on him.
"Aren't you and Wu Xin in the same class? I wonder if you'll be punished for skipping classes casually?
Oh, I forgot, your father is a professor, your father is the dean, so naturally you are different from ordinary students."
