Chapter 245 Opening the Way

There is no proper road leading to the top of the hill.

Only the closest relatives followed him up the mountain and watched him be buried.

Five children, three daughters-in-law and one son-in-law.

The hill was covered with weeds and thorns. The people in the lead crushed the grass, and the people behind them continued to move forward by stepping on the collapsed grass.

The soles of my shoes slipped on the grass and it was not easy to get up.

The mourners had been sleepless for several nights and were exhausted. Their steps were weak and powerless, making climbing the mountain even more difficult.

The urn was placed inside, covered with cement, and the grave was built.

The black names on the monument are those of the deceased, and the red ones are those of the living.

The deceased are finally gone, but the living are in agony.

Liang Genfa couldn't go up the mountain, so he could only look at the mountain from afar in the yard, his eyes unable to open because of the sun.

"Old woman, look at the sun today. It's so beautiful."

He walked back to the room silently. The bed had been made, but the smell of rust was still there.

I couldn't find anything to do for a while, and I felt anxious, touching here and looking there.

When he opened the cabinet, he saw the funeral clothes prepared for him.

The old woman said that the old man was more than ten years older than her and would definitely be walking ahead, so she should be prepared in advance to avoid being in a hurry later.

See, I'm still in a mess.

When going down the mountain, there was no proper path, and Liang Guoguo tripped over a vine, cutting her palm and causing it to bleed.

He bit his lip and didn't cry, because his mother-in-law would be heartbroken.

Erhua stopped to look at Guoguo's hand, then looked back at his mother's grave in a daze.

Someone behind him reminded him: "Don't look back, let's go."

He didn't move, looking down at his feet. From the top of the hill down here, weeds and thorns covered the hill. There was no decent path until the orchard began.

"There's not even a road..." Erhua murmured.

Dahua patted his shoulder, and Erhua met his eyes, still with that stubborn, ugly look:

"My dear son, there's not even a decent road from the foot of the mountain to Mom's place!" He lost control of his emotions and kept pulling Dahua, saying, "There's no road! There's no road!"

Dahua grabbed his arm tightly and said, "Erhua, if there is no way, let's make a way for Mom!"

Erhua was stunned, as if he didn't understand.

Dahua bent down, grabbed two handfuls of weeds with his bare hands, and pulled them out by the roots. There were thorny vines mixed in the weeds, and his hands were cut with several cuts, and blood flowed out little by little.

He threw the weeds aside, and a small open space appeared under his feet.

"Look, isn't this the road? Mom worked hard all her life but never had a single blessing."

"Yes, even if there's no happiness, there must be a way out, right?"

Erhua suddenly realized and pulled out all the grass around his feet with his bare hands.

Xiaohua also joined in, followed by Qiuhua and Chunhua.

The five men's hands were all cut and bruised, with mud smearing on their wounds. They didn't care about anything else and went all the way up from the bottom of the hill, clearing a little path.

Xiaomei saw that Xiaohua's hands were badly cracked and wanted to go forward, but was held back by Xiaojuan.

She shook her head at Xiaomei: "Let them go. They have to do this themselves. We can't help them."

Dahua walked in front, flattening the weeds in front of him with one foot, breaking the thorny vines, and then pulling them up by the roots. The way up was a bit steep and slippery, and he twisted his ankle without paying attention. He endured the pain and continued to move forward.

Erhua was just behind him. He followed the path opened by Dahua and pulled out the grass beside him. A small path as wide as a person's shoulders appeared in front of him.

Qiuhua, Xiaohua and Chunhua filled the potholes on the road and removed the excess stones and soil.

The road was difficult to drive on and Dahua slipped again. He grabbed the weeds in front of him with both hands and knelt on the ground. The hard stones scratched his pants and pierced his flesh.

"Brother!"

His brothers and sisters came forward to help him, and Dahua was able to stand up with their help.

Sweat had soaked my clothes from inside to outside.

He waved his hands and looked toward the top of the mountain: "Mom is watching us, I'm fine."

Erhua rushed in front of him and said, "You go to the back, I'll lead the way. Mom's second son has made it big!"

He used his hands and feet to steady himself and climbed up. As the wind had just dried his back, sweat broke out again.

The wild grass on the mountain had deep roots, and Erhua was panting.

His mother once said that he loved to daydream and was lazy at work.

He is taking practical actions to reassure his mother.

The people at the foot of the hill looked up and saw a brand new, crooked path behind the five people.

No matter how difficult the mountain road is, just pretend that you are a child who has just learned to walk.

If you can't walk, crawl.

If you slip, stand up again.

This happens in front of my mother, so it's not shameful.

Finally, the path wound its way to the grave. Erhua sat down on the newly turned soil, feeling completely exhausted.

He looked at the road below and smiled triumphantly, tears streaming down his face as he laughed, making him look even uglier and more disfigured.

"Mom, look, only your grave has a path. It was us brothers and sisters who dug it for you. No one is as filial as us, don't you think?"

Dahua sat beside him, struggling to hold on.

"Just act like a fool, even if you cry!"

"I'm the boss, I won't cry!"

"You won't cry? Who wouldn't cry when Mommy goes out?"

Qiuhua's hands were covered with cuts, which made Erhua feel distressed.

"What's wrong with you? Are you still able to embroider with your hands?" He was very annoyed. "It's my fault. I was so busy clearing the way that I forgot you were following me.

Mom must be scolding me for not taking good care of you!"

"I'm in my sixties, who needs you to watch over me?"

"Come on, stop talking. Your voice is so hoarse that I can't hear you. It's a pain in the ass to listen to you talk!"

"Brother, are you okay? Look how ugly you look when you cry!" Xiaohua didn't know whether he was crying or laughing.

"You call me ugly? Look at your big buck teeth and square head. You're the ugliest of the five of us!"

Seeing that Xiao Hua didn't talk back, he didn't want to scold her anymore, and instead comforted her: "So what if she's ugly, as long as your mistress is pretty, it's fine, but she's still a little worse than Luo Zhen!"

Xiaohua looked at Xiaomei at the foot of the mountain and turned away.

"Chunhua, ah, Chunhua, there's nothing much to say. Mom is most confident in you. You're the smartest and the prettiest. You'll definitely be more successful than the rest of us after graduating from graduate school..."

Chunhua seemed to have not heard anything, she opened her mouth and uttered a few words: "Brother, sister, we don't have a mother anymore..."

The other four people were stunned where they were. It was like thunder striking in a clear sky. The five of them rushed together and cried bitterly.

Each one cries uglier than the other.

At the foot of the mountain, three women and one man were waiting quietly.

"Okay, let's go." Dahua stood up.

Erhua followed him obediently, Qiuhua also stood up and followed, then Xiaohua, and finally Chunhua.

The narrow mountain road winds down from Qiu Zhen's grave all the way to the orchard.

The five children walked down slowly, their figures getting smaller and smaller.

As parents, we spend our whole lives watching our children go away.

On the high green hills,

Daylilies are blooming,

Pick one,

For you,

Little girl.

Pin it on your hair.

Hold it in my heart.
