Chapter 18 Back to School

Old Eggplant was talking incessantly in front of the blackboard, while the students below were drowsy.

Qiuhua was originally considered serious, but her grades were not good. She attended classes seriously only because she was a serious and respectful person by nature. But in fact, she did not think that studying was that important. However, she listened to her father and made sure to finish junior high school.

Qiuhua has been working late nights these days and is a little exhausted. His eyelids are drooping.

Old Eggplant was talking to himself, and the students below slept as they pleased, and everything was peaceful.

However, the snoring of "Black Dog" broke the tranquility of the classroom. Old Eggplant had always turned a blind eye to the students' sleep, pretending not to see them sleeping, which was almost the same as not sleeping at all. Now that the snoring sounded, it was like forcing the fake blind man to open his eyes and force him to see how many people were sleeping.

Old Qiezi was now so embarrassed that he took the book away from his face and carefully checked the students' condition. They were all staggering and shaking their heads. Even Qiuhua, who was usually quite serious, had his eyes half closed.

He was completely furious. He walked up to the podium and slammed the book on the table. Qiuhua was awakened and was no longer sleepy.

"Just look at what you guys are like! You don't study properly, you don't work properly, you're useless!"

Black Dog was also woken by the loud noise, but this time he didn't argue with Old Eggplant. Instead, he changed direction and continued to lie down. Ever since Zhao Meiying's brother taught him a lesson, he had become less aggressive and no longer caused trouble like before.

There was absolute silence and Old Eggplant was speechless for a moment. He had thought that if someone contradicted him, it would be a good opportunity for him to show his skills, but in the end, these useless students didn't say a word.

"Read the book by yourselves!" He managed to say this after a long time, then walked away.

Everyone looked at each other, and the classroom suddenly became lively. Liang Qiuhua, Zhao Meiying and Zhou Hehua simply got together to build a cucumber shed.

"I won't go to school after I finish elementary school." Zhou Hehua said with a smile. For her, this was a happy thing.

Zhao Meiying had already told Qiuhua about her plan, and Qiuhua, like her, was going to junior high school. However, they did not think there was anything wrong with Zhou Hehua not going to junior high school. After all, many people did not even go to elementary school.

But they were still a little curious. What was she going to do if she didn't study? Farming?

"So what are you going to do after graduation?"

Zhou Hehua fiddled with the book in her hand with one hand and supported her chin with the other hand and said, "Let's help with housework for a year first, but..." She stopped what she was doing and moved closer in a mysterious manner. Seeing this, the other two also moved their heads closer in tacit understanding.

"But I heard that Shangzhu Village is going to build a brick kiln factory. It will be ready around next year. I want to go and work as a worker!"

Qiuhua was very interested in this brick kiln. She quickly asked, "Does a brick kiln make bricks?"

"Yeah." Zhou Hehua nodded.

"Being a worker is not bad." Zhao Meiying really thinks it is a good idea, but she still wants to be a teacher.

She likes the way the teacher stands on the podium and teaches. It feels very holy and cultured. She respects teachers very much, including Lao Qiezi.

"You have all thought it through..." Qiuhua hasn't thought about these things yet. The furthest thing she can think of is raising a group of chickens and ducks. But compared with their ideas, she seems to have no lofty ideals.

"I just want to do more embroidery and buy some chickens and ducks..."

Zhao Meiying comforted her: "You are younger than us. We are about to graduate, so you should have considered it carefully."

"You can do embroidery in the future. None of us are as skilled as you. You are so good at it even though you are young. If you study hard in the future, you might be able to achieve something!"

She discovered Qiuhua's strengths and talked about it excitedly. The three little sisters encouraged each other and planned for the future.

“Yes, I love embroidery!”

Qiuhua was very happy. Why had she never thought about this? She always regarded embroidery as a tool to make money temporarily, but after Meiying's reminder, she realized that embroidery could also be her "career"!

The students chatted about this and that, and it was noon in a short while. Today Qiuhua brought half a lunch box of white rice, Zhao Meiying brought three big white steamed buns and some garlic fried pork slices, and Zhou Heying brought diced radish, stir-fried vegetables and a piece of fish belly.

Zhao Meiying stuffed a white steamed bun into each person's mouth, and a little fried pork slices into each person's mouth. Qiuhua also divided the rice into three portions, so the three of them had two portions of rice, three steamed buns, two vegetables, and two meat dishes. The white steamed bun was bought by Zhao Meiying's father at the street early that morning. Qiuhua took a bite and found it fragrant and soft. Paired with a piece of fried pork, his appetite was greatly whetted.

After dinner, the principal announced that there would be no classes that afternoon and instead instructed everyone to harvest the rice fields in the school yard, each person harvesting one lane. None of the students complained, as they were used to farm work at home. Some even felt that sleeping in the classroom was worse than harvesting rice in the fields.

The one who worked the hardest among them was "Black Dog". He slept the most soundly in class but worked the hardest in harvesting wheat. Now everyone looked at him with admiration.

Qiuhua was not very strong and cut slowly, but she was a patient person. If she cut slowly, it would just take more time. Zhao Meiying and Zhou Hehua were one year older than her and were a bit stronger. They had already rushed ahead and were about to finish cutting one row. At this time, Qiuhua still had one-third left to cut.

Zhao Meiying and Zhou Hehua began cutting from the other end of Qiuhua's path, hoping the three of them would eventually meet. Unexpectedly, while cutting, Qiuhua saw "Black Dog" before she even saw them. He cut diagonally from the middle, revealing his head and grinning at her. She was cutting intently when his smile nearly cut her hand with the sickle.

"What are you doing!" Qiu Hua was furious. It seemed like this person hadn't been taught a lesson enough, and now he was trying to do something else!

When the other two little sisters heard Qiuhua's voice, they put down the rice in their hands and rushed over. One of them was holding a sickle, which was very scary.

"No, no, no, I just want to help, don't hold up the sickle!"

"Black Dog" immediately admitted defeat, but he did only cut some rice and did not do anything else.

"There are three of us here, we don't need you, please leave!"

"Black Dog" Jian Qiuhua spoke very seriously, the smile on his face disappeared in an instant, and he walked away embarrassedly.

"I think that guy is sick!" Zhou Hehua cursed, "Stay away from him from now on, he's crazy!"
