The two stood calmly on the rooftop.
The zombie standing in front spoke up: "May I ask what brings you two here?"
This is the zombie at the very front. He's wearing a suit and looks elegant and composed, even managing a professional smile as he speaks.
Ye Shang thought to himself that this was the most human-like zombie he had seen so far, apart from the one that had run away earlier. It spoke fluently and had a lot of facial expressions.
"I've come to find a place where I used to live," she said calmly.
The zombie in the suit forced a smile. "I forgot to introduce myself. I am the king of this area, or you can call me the Zombie King."
Ye Shang held the Light Shadow in his hand. "Zombie King? The zombies below are all under your command?"
The Zombie King nodded politely, "Indeed." He opened his arms, "Welcome to my territory, both of you."
They acted as if they were genuinely welcoming guests.
Behind him were several zombies, standing in two rows like straight trees, not many in number, only about ten.
But they all walked calmly in the air.
Coincidentally, Ye Shang noticed a strangely familiar black shadow behind him that was always keeping its head down.
The shadowy zombie, who kept his head down among the other zombies, looked utterly speechless and miserable.
He felt that his path to advancement was too difficult. No matter where he went, he would encounter this plague. He had already come all the way here, and he still managed to meet her!
He's so angry he'll die!
However, Ye Shang didn't investigate further, only saying, "I know it's not easy for you to advance. I've come here to find what I need, and I'll leave if I can't find it."
Ye Shang checked the energy fluctuations on their bodies and strangely found no trace of human superhumans absorbing their energy. In other words, this was a group of zombies who had leveled up on their own.
Unlike what I encountered in Z City before, could it be that I really had some kind of extraordinary encounter? Otherwise, it would be impossible to level up so quickly, especially with this zombie king.
The Zombie King pondered for a moment, then nodded in agreement, "Okay."
He then issued the command, ordering all the zombies in the city to retreat to a designated location.
It wasn't easy for him to reach his current level. As someone once said, absorbing the power of heaven and earth is the only way to accelerate one's own leveling up. Once one's hands are tainted with the energy of superhumans or high-level intelligent beings, even if one levels up, one cannot return to the original state.
They can kill, but they cannot absorb the life force of those creatures.
Someone once said that once a zombie has upgraded, as long as it can revert to its former human form, it can be considered a successful evolution.
As long as I can keep living, that's enough.
Seeing that he agreed so readily, Ye Shang didn't say anything. The light shadow in his hand turned into light and disappeared, and he returned it to his dantian to nurture it.
He nodded to the zombie king, then pulled Qingli towards the location she sensed.
A high-ranking zombie beside the Zombie King spoke up: "Your Majesty...we...we're just...letting...this go?"
His level was naturally lower than that of the Zombie King, and he still had a noticeable stutter when he spoke. His face was pale and stiff, and he couldn't make any other movements.
It's at least not as agile as the Zombie King.
The Zombie King sighed softly, then turned around and handed him a large bag, his tone flat: "Otherwise, you go and deal with her? Don't forget, the Zombie King from another region led an army of 100,000, and less than 10,000 escaped, thanks to that guy pleading for them."
It couldn't really be called pleading for mercy; I heard that the person in question was almost killed as well.
The main point is that this human doesn't seem afraid of his self-revealed identity at all, which means that he has the ability to kill them. In the past, when encountering a human superhuman, some people would cry or wet themselves in fear after hearing his identity, and some would even turn around and run away.
Clearly, these two are formidable figures. They might even be the same big shots who killed many high-level zombies back then, relying on heavenly lightning to kill quite a few zombies.
Since hearing about that incident, the zombie kings born in each region have never dared to send any high-level zombies near the human base. Even if they need to go to other places and have to pass through the human base, they will choose to take a detour.
The zombie kings also have their own information channels. They have all upgraded to this level, they are not stupid, they have all gained intelligence, and they have their own thoughts.
In particular, these zombie kings would occasionally hold secret meetings to discuss their own path to advancement and to level up their underlings together.
Hopefully, if they can all return to their original human form, they will also be eligible to enter the city.
Initially, humans feared zombies and were afraid of their harm. Once bitten, they would be assimilated. But there was another point that no one had yet realized.
As failed assimilation candidates, zombies face a more difficult path to advancement than human superhumans, but they can still level up. The world is giving them a chance, and also giving humanity a chance.
Is refusing to help either side what the world considers fair treatment?
Maybe.
After leaving the highest point, Ye Shang and his companion headed towards the energy fluctuations.
Qingli followed silently throughout, never interrupting any of her decisions. Wherever she said she wanted to go, she went; if she said she wanted to come here for a stroll, then she came.
At this moment, the strange feeling in his heart became clearer and clearer, and he called out, "Ah Shang..."
Ye Shang stopped and turned to look at him: "Is that uncomfortable feeling again?"
Qingli nodded, looking somewhat uncomfortable: "Yes, my heart is beating a bit too fast."
Ye Shang pondered for a moment, then said, "Why don't you wait here for me? I'll go take a look first."
Qingli gritted her teeth and shook her head: "No, I can hold on, I want to stay with you."
He cannot hold us back, absolutely not!
As he spoke, he forcefully suppressed the unusual pounding of his heart and gripped her hand tightly.
"Let's go, I'm fine." He gritted his teeth, his voice trembling slightly.
A thumping sound kept coming from his heart.
Seeing that he was in too much pain, Ye Shang simply picked him up and said, "Don't move."
Qingli wrapped her arms around her neck, rested her head on her shoulder, and softly responded, "Mmm."
Ye Shang held Qing Li in her arms, which did not affect her speed at all; on the contrary, it made her fly faster and faster. She was beginning to understand why Qing Li's reaction was so strong.
Perhaps the power of a demon king remains in that place, or perhaps it's a fragment of his soul; it's just unknown which one.
She flew along, the surrounding scenery, buildings, and dilapidated skyscrapers flashing by.
Until she arrived at the very center of the back of the city, where there was a huge tree in the heart of the area.
Strangely, the tree grows lush and verdant, with its branches and leaves extending outwards, and its trunk is so thick that it would take several adults with their arms outstretched to encircle it.
It looks very old, without any signs of withering or damage.
