Chapter 125 A Mind Full of Yellow Waste
In the rented little house, Lin Baozhu fell asleep almost immediately, sleeping soundly. She was awakened by the rustling sounds of Lin Sanlang packing his things in the outer room.
She opened her sleepy eyes and glanced at the old-fashioned alarm clock on the table—it was past four in the afternoon. She closed her eyes and focused her mind, carefully taking stock of the area. This time at the black market, she planned to test the waters, and the samples she brought were carefully chosen: fashionable items like dresses and leather shoes were only a few; the main attraction was fresh venison and lively chickens and ducks!
Live animals are the "stepping stone," and the quantity for the first transaction must be precisely measured—one hundred or eighty, no more and no less.
This demonstrates strength and a stable supply, without being so excessive as to arouse suspicion or expose any irregularities. Whether to increase the quantity later depends on the skill and connections of the person in charge in the black market.
Ultimately, today was just the initial exploration. She needed to find out the other party's background: Did they have sufficient channels to secure large quantities of goods? More importantly, if something went wrong, did they have the ability to handle it? If the other party was truly a powerful force from out of town, then a continuous supply of goods might not be out of the question.
Lin Baozhu's mind stirred slightly, and she took out the prepared samples from her spatial storage: a spirited old hen, a trendy dress, a simple women's polyester shirt, a pair of shiny women's leather shoes, two pairs of highly elastic stirrup pants, and a pair of thick work pants... The items were few in number, but comprehensive in variety, ranging from food to clothing, all representing in-demand goods...
There was also a basket of eggs. Last time Lin Erlang went home, he asked his mother to help him exchange the eggs, saying that they were almost impossible to buy at the supply and marketing cooperative...
And the eggs in her online space had piled up into a small mountain!
After getting ready, she rubbed her face, yawned deeply, and squeezed out two sleepy tears from the corners of her eyes before pretending to have just woken up and opening the door.
"Ouch!" Lin Sanlang, who was humming a song and stuffing things into his net bag, was startled and almost dropped what he was holding. "Little sister?! When did you sneak in? How come you didn't make a sound?"
Lin Baozhu leaned lazily against the door frame, her voice still hoarse from just waking up: "I've been here for a while, but I took a nap since you weren't here. Third Brother, where did you go to make your fortune? You're carrying so many bags."
Lin Sanlang chuckled, picked up the things in his hand, and said with a little smugness, "We're going to my second brother's house for dinner tonight! How can I let my second brother treat us? It would make us brothers seem inconsiderate! So I went to the supply and marketing cooperative and bought some noodles and sugar, and I also made a special detour to the state-run restaurant to grab two hearty dishes—braised pork and stir-fried liver tips!"
He squeezed into the room and carefully placed two heavy aluminum lunch boxes on the table, making a soft "clinking" sound.
Lin Baozhu raised an eyebrow, secretly nodding in approval. Her third brother, ever since he'd spent a few days navigating the black market, had visibly become more shrewd and worldly-wise! The impetuous boy from before now actually knew to prepare presentable gifts in advance.
"Huh? Little sister, what are these...?"
"Oh, these..."
Lin Baozhu casually picked up the dress and shook it: "This is the 'sample' we'll be seeing the black market manager for later. From now on, all the liaison work with them and the shipping will be entirely in your hands!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Sanlang's eyes lit up! He thumped his chest loudly and said in a booming voice, "Don't worry, little sister! Leave this to your third brother! I guarantee I'll handle it perfectly!"
After these experiences of venturing into the black market alone, he is no longer the timid and greenhorn he once was!
More importantly, he no longer has to wander the streets in fear, like those peddlers who are always worried about running into people with red armbands. This stable and lucrative business is hard to find even with a lantern!
He could almost see piles of money flying into his pockets, and a rosy glow spread across his dark face as he happily began to plan: Once he'd earned enough money, he'd tear down the old house and build a big brick house! So his parents and sister could live comfortably!
Then... hehe, I'll marry a virtuous wife and have a bunch of kids... just thinking about it makes me happy!
Seeing Lin Sanlang's silly grin, Lin Baozhu knew that he was once again indulging in those beautiful dreams of getting married, having children, and building a house.
She deftly tidied up the things on the table, interrupting his reverie: "Alright, stop daydreaming, let's go, or it'll get dark soon."
"Okay! Alright!"
The two arrived at Lin Erlang's house, only to find the door locked. Lin Baozhu calmly took out her key from her pocket…
"Huh! Little sister, how do you have a key to my second brother's house?" Lin Sanlang stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
"Given by my second sister-in-law."
As she unlocked the door, she continued, "My second sister-in-law felt sorry for me having nowhere to stay when I came to town on business, so she gave me a spare key."
"Tsk tsk, Second Brother and Second Sister-in-law really cherish you!" Lin Sanlang said with a sour and envious tone.
Lin Baozhu raised her chin slightly, her face radiating an air of self-righteous arrogance. That's right! Lin Baozhu's success in the world was built on her irresistible charm; she was destined to be the darling of everyone wherever she went!
When Lin Erlang and his wife returned from work, they were greeted by the rhythmic chopping sounds coming from the kitchen. In the cramped kitchen, Lin Baozhu, wearing an apron, wielded her knife with practiced ease. Next to her, neatly arranged in a vegetable basket were tomatoes, cauliflower, and cabbage. On the cutting board lay a plucked chicken and two pieces of finely marbled pork belly.
"Second brother, second sister-in-law, you're back?" Lin Baozhu peeked out at the sound, her eyes crinkling with a smile.
Lin Erlang gently placed the two bottles of brandy he was carrying on the table, responded with a sound of inquiry, and asked through his glasses, "Hmm. Why didn't you go to the factory today?"
"I went into the mountains with Qin Haifeng last night, and we didn't get back until this morning. I'm catching up on sleep at my rented place..."
Before the words had even finished, Lin Sanlang, who was standing next to him, sprang up from his chair like a firecracker! His eyes widened, his fists clenched so tightly they cracked, and the veins on his neck looked like they were about to burst.
"What?! He took you into the deep woods late at night?! No wonder you were all listless when I went to the courtyard! Qin Haifeng, that bastard! He's not even married yet and he dares to treat people like this?! If I see him, I'll twist his head off and kick it like a ball!" He roared, spitting everywhere.
Lin Erlang gave Lin Sanlang a cold look: "Should I get you a megaphone so the whole building can hear you?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Sanlang quickly pursed his lips.
Seeing this, Lin Erlang withdrew his gaze, but the cold light in his eyes behind his glasses was sharp, and an invisible chill instantly spread out.
Lin Baozhu's face darkened, and she slammed a kitchen knife down on the cutting board with a loud bang: "Lin Sanlang! What kind of filthy garbage is in your head?! Do you have to do bad things just because you're going into the mountains? We're going to suppress bandits..."
