Chapter 55: Madam, You Are Too Careless

Lin Zhiya had a purse embroidered with a lotus flower in silver thread on her waist. Chi Xuanye saw it by accident and felt a shock in his heart. He suddenly fell into a dream.

First there was a flash of white light, and then the vision gradually became clear. Chi Xuanye dreamed of a border area covered with heavy snow.

In front of the tent, there was a chestnut horse stamping its feet restlessly. It was his horse, named Han Ye.

The person in the tent was him, blood kept oozing out of the place wrapped in gauze. In the dream, he was staring at a crossbow hanging on the wall with empty eyes.

Chi Xuanye felt so familiar. He always felt that he would die at the border.

This tent and this snowy day seemed to have really happened. Chi Xuanye's brain seemed to split open and broken memories flooded in.

He touched the area under his eyes and a hot tear rolled down.

The anxiety of the cold night outside subsided, and he heard Lin Zhiya's voice, which was the same as many years ago and had never changed.

Lin Zhiya fed Han Ye some grass and went into the tent carrying a wooden basin. She was dressed very simply this time and had a beautiful face. There were cuts on the back of her hands from the cold.

...

...

Lin Zhiya skillfully lifted the quilt of Chi Xuanye in the dream, untied the gauze and changed his dressing.

Chi Xuanye finally moved his eyes away from the crossbow, his face turned red unnaturally, and he said fiercely: "Don't touch me, don't even think about hitting on me if you want a man!"

Lin Zhiya was even more aggressive than she was in the capital. She slapped him in the face, turning half of Chi Xuanye's face red.

Chi Xuanye tilted his head, his thick eyelashes made him look more delicate, and his smile on the verge of breaking made him look ferocious.

Lin Zhiya wasn't afraid of him: "Change the medicine properly, or I'll strip you naked and stuff you into the quilt."

The room was silent, and the only sound that could be heard was Han Ye turning around outside.

Chi Xuanye suddenly asked: "I heard that the imperial edict came from the capital, are you going back to the capital?"

Lin Zhiya remained silent, unwilling to mention it, "...I haven't made up my mind yet, I think I will go back."

Chi Xuanye was relentless, "Aren't you going to take care of me? Why don't you keep your word?"

Lin Zhiya was puzzled: "What's so good about me here? I don't have good food or drink. I think it would be better if I could get you a male helper to take care of you."

Chi Xuanye was speechless for a long time, and then he said with difficulty: "If I say, I want you to stay here... How about this?"

Lin Zhiya looked at him as if he were a stranger.

Chi Xuanye's face turned red and he closed his eyes tightly, unwilling to accept his nonsense.

A piece of rock candy was stuffed into his mouth, Lin Zhiya's slightly cool hand touched his lips, and then the silver thread embroidered lotus purse in Lin Zhiya's hand came into Chi Xuanye's sight.

The sweetness spread in Chi Xuanye's mouth, dispelling the bitterness in his heart.

He heard Lin Zhiya say with a pained look on her face: "I'll give you one. I don't have any more. Don't be sad."

After a long while, Chi Xuanye asked the last question: "Why do you still like him when those people in the capital bully you like this?"

Lin Zhiya was stunned and looked a little confused. Just as she was about to answer, a series of hurried footsteps were heard.

The plump girl grabbed Lin Zhiya's hand and said, "My queen, the emperor has ordered the troops to withdraw. The bandits are coming soon. Let's go quickly."

Lin Zhiya widened her eyes and subconsciously wanted to grab Chi Xuanye's hand, but Chi Xuanye was seriously injured and it was difficult to recover, let alone escaping in the snow with two weak women.

Chi Xuanye took her hand and lingered on it for a moment before letting her go. "Go."

The girl had a bag on her shoulders and used brute force to pull Lin Zhiya away. Lin Zhiya hurriedly turned around and glanced at Chi Xuanye.

He kept her purse and played with it curiously in his hand.

The purse embroidered with a lotus flower in silver thread indeed contained two pieces of rock sugar. The texture was good, but a little old. It must have been imported from the capital.

Chi Xuanye looked up and saw a string of tiny footprints outside, which were gradually being submerged by the wind and snow.

He knew that he would never see Lin Zhiya again in this life.

The dream disappeared, night fell, and the knife in Chi Xuanye's hand fell to the ground.

Lin Zhiya was apprehensive and moved slowly: "Hero, do you want money? I have a lot of money in my house. I'll give it to you. Don't hurt me."

Lin Zhiya gently kicked the knife away with her toes. She still remembered the cold feeling of the knife against her body.

Chi Xuanye's heart was beating rapidly, and this time was different from the previous times. He felt that his dormant emotions were awakened, as if he had been waiting for this dream for the past twenty years.

Chi Xuanye picked up the knife and hid it behind his back, muttering, "No...I took the wrong path."

Lin Zhiya looked at him stiffly: "..."

Lin Zhiya saw his ears turn red, and this face seemed familiar, so she blurted out: "General Chi? I didn't harm your sister."

Chi Rong got sick herself, and she fell into the water herself, so why are you blaming me?

Lin Zhiya felt aggrieved. Not only did Zhao Chen like Chi Rong, but he also brought a younger brother to assassinate her.

Lin Zhiya argued: "In fact, I haven't seen Chi Rong much. You can't just listen to her one-sided words. Patients are all stubborn, right?"

Chi Xuanye looked even more confused than Lin Zhiya, and he no longer had the killing intent he had before. "This is a misunderstanding. It's actually a fruit peeling knife."

Chi Xuanye's eyes were fixed on Lin Zhiya, and even the scar between his eyebrows became tangled.

Chi Xuanye wanted to explain, but in the end he just said, "I miss you very much."

Lin Zhiya also stopped talking. She wanted to ask how deep our friendship was? We just passed each other on the same street a few times, but we were already talking about missing each other?

Lin Zhiya: "... Qingyue Street has not been demolished yet, you should go for a walk, maybe there will be more old friends you will miss."

Chi Xuanye: "You should drink less. If you drink too much for a few years, your bones will ache."

The two chatted for a while, and then they heard Hemei's footsteps. She came back after picking up the shuttlecock.

Chi Xuanye's fiery eyes subsided a little, and he pinched Lin Zhiya's purse and stuffed it into his arms, "It's too late today, let's find a chance to reminisce next time."

Next time? Lin Zhiya's heart skipped a beat. Why do you need to do it again? Once is enough.

As soon as Chi Xuanye left, Lin Zhiya sobered up. She looked around and saw Hemei had just arrived at the door, so why didn't she come in yet?

Could it be that Chi Xuanye had killed her? Lin Zhiya hurried to see, and saw Hemei hiding in a shadowy corner.

He Mei cried, "My queen, I just saw General Chi coming out of our yard. I don't want to be beheaded."

"You misunderstood. Let me explain it to you." Lin Zhiya said calmly.

He Mei couldn't listen, her mind was full of the scene just now: "Madam, we are in the palace after all, you and General Chi should restrain yourself a little, promise me that you will let me go out for a walk next time, okay?"

He Mei: "Your Majesty is too careless. How could you give your personal purse to General Chi? You should change it to a more concealed one, such as a shoe insole..."
