The next day, after washing up, Lin Qing's first thing to do was go to the ranch to see the ducklings, piglets, and calves that she had left there the day before.
Lin Qing entered the ranch and first checked on the ducklings in Farm No. 1. She saw that the ducklings had red welts on their heads, a sign of hunger. Lin Qing shook her head and then looked at Farm No. 2 next door, where piglets and calves were also running around, looking hungry.
Seeing this, Lin Qing quickly went to the feed mill next door. Lin Qing first put away the 100 portions of pig feed that she had made yesterday, and then added 10 portions of duck feed to it.
Then Lin Qing added pig feed to the No. 2 pig farm. The piglets ate the feed and quickly recovered.
Then Lin Qing harvested the rice grown in the fields and put it into the warehouse, and then planted a batch of pasture.
Then Lin Qing went to check on the orange juice that Gu Nanxun was processing yesterday. She found that it would take another 10 minutes to finish processing all the orange juice. Lin Qing waited for a while, then collected all the orange juice and put it on the trading window. Then she added 1,000 portions of strawberries, and the machine started producing strawberry juice.
After everything was settled, Lin Qing left the space and went to the courtyard.
"Qingqing, you're awake. Do you want to eat? Or should we have lunch later?"
In the kitchen, Zhao Xi was making lunch. Hearing the noise, she came out and saw Lin Qing, so she asked.
"Let's have lunch together later! I'll have some fruit to tide me over first. Where's Nanxun?"
Lin Qing didn't see Gu Nanxun in the space, nor did she see him after coming out, so she asked Zhao Xi curiously.
"Young Master went to the post office. He said he'd mail something for you and told you not to worry about him and to eat well," Zhao Xi replied as she walked back into the kitchen after hearing Lin Qing's question.
"When did he go?"
"He left early this morning," Zhao Xi's voice came from the kitchen.
Lin Qing nodded and returned to the room. The room was warm, probably because Gu Nanxun had added firewood when he left.
Lin Qing sat cross-legged on the kang (a heated brick bed), took an apple from her spatial storage, and idly stared into space while taking a bite.
After an unknown amount of time, the door creaked open from the outside. Lin Qing looked up and saw Gu Nanxun walking in, wearing a military overcoat with a few snowflakes still clinging to the collar.
"Brother Nanxun, is it snowing outside? When did it start?" Lin Qing asked as she got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and walked towards the door.
"It just snowed not long ago!" Gu Nanxun took off his military overcoat, hung it on the hanger, and went straight to sit down on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Lin Qing stuck her head out of the house and looked outside. She saw that large snowflakes had started falling from the sky again. A gust of wind blew by, and Lin Qing involuntarily shivered.
"Stop looking, come over here, it's cold outside!" Gu Nanxun saw Lin Qing shiver and greeted her with a smile.
Upon hearing Gu Nanxun's words, Lin Qing stopped looking outside, pulled her head back in, closed the door again, and returned to the kang (heated brick bed).
"Why is it snowing again? The snow from last time hasn't even melted yet!"
Lin Qing sat cross-legged on the other side of the kang table as she spoke.
"That's how winters are here; it snows most of the time. I just wonder how the other hunting team is doing."
Gu Nanxun poured a cup of hot tea from the kang table and drank it while responding to the conversation.
"Yes, it's good that you came back early!" Lin Qing said with a look of relief.
"Fortunately, it's daytime now. Seeing the snow, they should be heading home. If it were night, they would wake up to a white expanse outside and be trapped in the mountains," Gu Nanxun said with a look of relief.
"Then they'll be back today, right!"
“It’s dangerous to stay in the mountains when it’s snowing. There are hunters around, and no matter what their catch is, they’ll definitely be back today.”
“I heard from the aunties in the village that in the past, the winter hunting teams would leave for 10 days to half a month. How come it snowed in less than a week this time? Was it like this before?”
Lin Qing asked with a curious expression.
“This has happened before, but it’s rare. Usually, there’s about 20 days between two snowfalls, and at worst, there’s about 10 days between them. It’s not like this short interval.”
Gu Nanxun pondered for a moment, then shook his head and said, "That was a very long time ago, but now that I think about it, it really wasn't that short a time ago."
"No matter what, as long as everyone returns safely, that's all that matters. You've already hunted quite a few prey, so it's fine even if they come back empty-handed."
Gu Nanxun nodded, then asked, "Yes, you're right. When did you get up? Did you have breakfast?"
"I just got up and ate an apple. I saw Xixi making lunch, so I thought I'd eat lunch right away."
Before Lin Qing could finish speaking, Gu Nanxun got up, took a can of malted milk powder from the cabinet, scooped three spoonfuls of malted milk powder into a cup, took out a pot of boiled spiritual spring water from his space, filled it halfway, stirred it with a spoon, added some cool spiritual spring water, touched the cup, and handed it to Lin Qing.
"Eating only fruit won't do, you need to drink a glass of malted milk powder first."
Lin Qing saw the malted milk powder handed to him and a bright smile appeared on his face. He picked up the cup and sipped the malted milk powder slowly. The malted milk powder was prepared just right, neither too hot nor too cold, and it made Lin Qing feel warm inside.
"Good girl!" Gu Nanxun looked at Lin Qing obediently drinking the malted milk powder and couldn't help but reach out and pat Lin Qing's head, praising her with a doting expression.
"Brother Nanxun, has the package been mailed yet?" Lin Qing was so flattered by Gu Nanxun's praise that she didn't remember what Gu Nanxun had done that day until she finished drinking the malted milk powder. So she asked.
"Yes, they've all been mailed. I also added some beef jerky and pork jerky, as well as some mushroom sauce and beef sauce, and some canned goods and fruit."
Lin Qing nodded, then added, "Why didn't you call me? I was thinking of going with you!"
