Upon hearing Lin Qing's words, the children's eyes lit up, and they instantly became excited. They rushed to surround Lin Qing, afraid that if they spoke too late, Lin Qing would not let them sit down.
Seeing the children's anxious expressions, Lin Qing quickly said loudly to them, "Don't worry, everyone. There will be a share for everyone. We'll come up in groups of four, from the smallest to the largest."
Gu Nanxun's sled seats are quite spacious, accommodating three adults, so there's no problem with four children sitting in the back.
Then Lin Qing selected four of the youngest-looking children and had them sit in the back.
The sled continued its journey across the snow, with children cheering as they followed. The adults, who had been huddled in their warm homes, were also drawn out by the commotion and emerged from their cozy houses.
"These city folks really know how to have fun! Why didn't we think of using dogs to pull the cart?"
An elderly woman, with her hands tucked into her sleeves, looked at Lin Qing and Gu Nanxun, who were surrounded by children, and said with a smile.
"What kind of cart are you going to pull? Look at the dogs in our village, which one of them can pull a cart!"
The elderly woman next to her touched her nose, which was red from the cold, and smiled as she looked at a little girl on the bus. Her face was full of kindness.
"That's right, the dogs in our village are so thin from hunger that they can't even run, let alone pull a cart!"
"That's true, Brother Gu's two dogs are really fat and greasy."
A young man in the village overheard the conversation of several elderly women, swallowed hard, and couldn't help but say something.
"Liu Dajun, let me tell you, don't even think about messing with these two dogs. If you anger Xiao Gu, no one will help you."
Liu Dajun swallowed, which his mother noticed. She quickly gave him a serious warning.
“Yes, Dajun, don’t make a mistake. Xiao Gu is a good kid. He’s helped our village a lot. And when wolves came down the mountain before, it was these two dogs who found them.” The aunt next to her quickly chimed in. She couldn’t let anyone else have designs on these two dogs. With these two dogs at the foot of the mountain, they felt safe living in the village.
“Yes, Dajun, listen to your mother, that’s right. Think about Hu Ziqiang, you can’t make a mistake!” Liu Dajun’s mother added.
"Alright, Mom, I was just saying. Am I that kind of person? I grew up with Brother Gu, how could I possibly betray him for a piece of meat?"
Liu Dajun rubbed his nose, looking embarrassed. He really had no interest in those two dogs; besides, those two big dogs looked like they were not to be trifled with. He was just being silly as to provoke them.
Liu Dajun's mother carefully observed his expression. Seeing that her son really had no idea, she was relieved and said, "Hmm, that's good. We still have wolf meat at home. Mom will cook meat for you tonight."
"Okay, thank you, Mom!" Upon hearing his mother's words, Liu Dajun's earlier embarrassment vanished, and he said excitedly.
As the sled continued its journey, more and more villagers and children joined the chase. They ran, jumped, laughed, and shouted, filling the entire village with a joyful atmosphere.
The villagers watched Gu Nanxun and Lin Qing's sled with envy and discussion, but while some were happy, others harbored resentment.
Hu Damei glared at Lin Qing and Gu Nanxun's retreating figures, wishing she could strangle them with her own hands. Why? Why did her son suffer in a remote place while these two bastards lived such a good life?
The old woman next to Hu Damei, seeing Hu Damei's vicious eyes, couldn't help but walk away. She thought to herself that she would have to tell Xiao Lin, the educated youth, later, so that Hu Damei wouldn't do anything bad again.
"It's all Mom and Dad's fault. If they had treated Fourth Brother better, we could have gone up and ridden the sled too."
Gu Xiaohua looked at Lin Qing sitting on the sled and said to Gu Xiaoli with envy.
Gu Xiaoli didn't speak. At this moment, she regretted why she hadn't treated her fourth brother well when he was around. Otherwise, given her fourth brother's loyal and righteous nature, even if he didn't care about their parents, he wouldn't have abandoned his younger sister.
Unfortunately, it's too late now. Fourth Brother already has a family and doesn't need them anymore.
Gu Xiaoli sighed, then pulled Gu Xiaohua, who was reluctant to leave, towards home. Recently, her sisters-in-law had been acting strangely. A couple of days ago, she overheard her second and third sisters-in-law discussing marrying them off in exchange for dowries.
She had to find a way to marry her and her sister off to good families, otherwise her second and third sisters-in-law would make the first move and wouldn't find them any good families.
When my parents were alive, my sisters-in-law were alright. But ever since my parents were arrested and my brothers are not home, they have become increasingly unreasonable. Now they make my sister and me do all the housework and don't even give us enough to eat.
Thinking of this, Gu Xiaoli sighed again. If she had been nicer to her fourth brother before, she could have asked him for help now.
As time went on, more and more children followed around the sled.
Looking at the ever-growing number of children, Lin Qing said to Gu Nanxun with a distressed expression, "Brother Nanxun, there are more and more children!"
Gu Nanxun patted Lin Qing's head, "Qingqing, just have fun. If you don't want to play anymore, Wang Haoran and the others are waiting for you! I bet they'd be happy to play with the kids too."
Suddenly, a few daring children tried to approach the sled, wanting to touch Thunder and Lightning's smooth, soft fur with their own hands.
Seeing this, Gu Nanxun quickly and softly stopped the thunder and lightning, making them slow down. He stretched out his arm, gently pulling the nearby children aside to prevent them from colliding with the sled, while shouting loudly to the children.
"Be careful, everyone stay away from the sleds. No one is allowed to get close to the sleds. If anyone doesn't listen, they won't be allowed to play with it later."
Upon hearing Gu Nanxun's words, the children all ran to the side, away from the sled, creating a vacuum around it in an instant. Gu Nanxun looked at the children's obedient behavior, smiled, and nodded, saying, "Don't worry, everyone, I'll make sure every child gets to ride on the sled today."
The children cheered happily, jumping and skipping with excitement, as if they were about to ride a sled.
Looking at these lively and adorable children, Lin Qing felt a warmth in her heart. She turned to look at Gu Nanxun, and their eyes met again. They smiled at the same time, both able to feel the happiness and contentment in each other's hearts.
"Brother Nanxun, thank you!" Lin Qing said softly.
Gu Nanxun smiled slightly and held Lin Qing's hand tightly: "We will be happier and happier in the future."
Lin Qing smiled and squeezed Gu Nanxun's hand tightly, nodding heavily: "Yes, we will be happier and happier."
The sleds continued to speed across the snowfield, leaving behind a trail of laughter and wonderful memories.
Gu Nanxun ran with Lin Qing for a while, then handed the sled to Wang Haoran and Chen Bin.
