Lin Qing also found it novel. Although she had seen television sets before, and even watched them, there were television sets ten times larger than this in later generations, and they were in color. But this was the first time she had seen a television set from this era.
Lin Qing looked up and saw several uniformed staff members standing next to the television set, proudly explaining how to use it to the crowd.
"Fellow comrades, this is a newly acquired television set in our department store. It's unique to our department store; many other places don't have it. It can receive signals and broadcast programs. Today, we'll be showing you some news and programs," a staff member announced loudly through a megaphone.
A cheer erupted from the crowd; everyone was eager to experience this novel form of entertainment.
Lin Qing and Gu Nanxun also found a spot with great interest, ready to watch the television program.
A short while later, the news started playing on the television. Although the sound was a bit noisy, it still drew gasps from the people around.
"My God, look! The people on TV seem to be really moving!" The old lady next to Lin Qing exclaimed excitedly, pointing at the TV screen as if she had discovered a new continent.
"Yeah! How did that person get into the TV? The TV is so small, how did he even get in there?!"
The older woman next to her also exclaimed in surprise as she craned her neck, stood on tiptoe, and looked at the television screen with astonishment.
“That’s not a person, no…that’s not a real person, it’s been filmed, like a photograph.”
A young man next to the older woman proudly explained to her, and as soon as he finished explaining, he attracted admiring glances from the surrounding crowd.
After finishing his explanation, the young man straightened his chest and stood up even straighter.
An older man stroked his short beard, smiled, and nodded: "This child is absolutely right. This is truly a remarkable invention."
Just then, a staff member walked over. He noticed the Spring Festival couplets in Lin Qing and Gu Nanxun's hands and asked curiously, "Gentlemen, where did you get these Spring Festival couplets? The department store didn't give out any Spring Festival couplets today."
Lin Qing and Gu Nanxun exchanged a smile, and Lin Qing replied, "Oh, we prepared this ourselves, thinking we could use it during the New Year."
The staff member nodded and then continued to maintain order.
The television program ran for about half an hour, and then the staff announced that the day's demonstration was over and the television set would be moved back to the warehouse.
The crowd reluctantly dispersed, but the discussion about the television set did not end with its departure.
Lin Qing and Gu Nanxun also walked out of the department store with the crowd.
"They certainly can't imagine that they won't even want to watch television in the future."
Lin Qing said to Gu Nanxun with a smile.
Gu Nanxun smiled and said, "When a product develops to a certain point, it will be replaced by a new product. This is inevitable."
Lin Qing nodded.
The two walked and talked, and soon arrived at the scrap metal recycling station.
An elderly man with gray hair was lying at the entrance of the recycling station. When he saw the two of them, he glanced at them and then asked Lazy Sheep, "What are you doing?"
Lin Qing stepped forward and said with a smile, "Grandpa, we'd like to find some newspapers to wallpaper the walls!"
Upon hearing this, the old man glanced at the two of them again, then moved closer to the stove and said, "Go ahead, but don't take what you shouldn't!"
"Okay, sir, we understand!" Lin Qing said with a smile. Then she pulled Gu Nanxun into the scrap metal recycling station.
"System check-in!"
As soon as Lin Qing was out of the old man's sight, she spoke to the system.
"Ding... Congratulations, host, you have successfully checked in and received 2 jin of waste paperboard. Would you like to claim it?"
"receive!"
"It seems we don't need to search anymore; we can just take it out!"
Lin Qing held up the newspaper in her hand and waved it at Gu Nanxun.
Gu Nanxun smiled upon hearing this, then looked around and saw that the scrap yard was filled with all sorts of items, including old furniture, broken appliances, books, and some gadgets that looked quite old.
Gu Nanxun looked carefully but didn't see anything of value.
Suddenly, Lin Qing's gaze was drawn to an old wooden box in the corner.
The old wooden box was hidden under a pile of rotten wood in the corner, with one corner of the box sticking out.
"Brother Nanxun, come and take a look at this." Lin Qing stepped forward, gently moved the wooden box out from under the rotten wood, and then softly called out to Gu Nanxun.
Gu Nanxun walked over and saw the wooden box in Lin Qing's hand. The wooden box had been wiped clean by Lin Qing with a wet wipe. The box was carved with exquisite patterns, and although it was somewhat worn, its exquisite craftsmanship was still evident.
Lin Qing wanted to open the box to take a look, but the wooden box had a combination lock. Lin Qing looked at it over and over again, but couldn't open it no matter what she did, so she had to give up.
“This box looks very old; it might be an antique,” Gu Nanxun said after examining it carefully.
Lin Qing nodded excitedly: "I think so too, let's put it away for now!"
After Lin Qing finished speaking, he prepared to put the wooden box into his spatial storage. Suddenly, his expression changed, and he looked at Gu Nanxun with a strange expression, saying, "Brother Nanxun, take a look, the weight seems wrong!"
Gu Nanxun reached out and took the box from Lin Qing's hand, then weighed it in his hand: "It's definitely not right. Let's put it away for now and study it again when we get back."
As he spoke, Gu Nanxun put the wooden box in his hand into his spatial storage.
The two continued searching for a while, but found no more valuable items.
"Do we still need to look? Why don't we just scan it?"
Gu Nanxun checked the time; a long time had passed. If they didn't go out soon, the old man would probably come looking for them. So he suggested to Lin Qing.
Of course, they also had a treasure-hunting compass, but Gu Nanxun felt that the system's scanning speed was the fastest and most convenient.
Lin Qing nodded: "Let's stop looking and just scan!"
"System scan!"
"Ding... Scan successful, time taken 5 minutes, 500 points deducted."
"Hopefully, what we find will be worth the 500 points."
Five minutes later...
"Ding... Scan complete. The following items have been found: one old book, 'Rare Ancient Books,' worth 1000 points; one antique vase, worth 2000 points; one old-fashioned radio, worth 500 points; one copper ink cartridge, worth 2000 points; one old-fashioned pocket watch, worth 600 points..."
