Chapter 44 Mutual Praise and State-Run Restaurants

"Are you Xiaolin, the educated youth?"

Suddenly, the doctor, who was sitting at the table, asked with a smile.

"Yes, doctor, thank you for treating Comrade Liu Cuilan's wound."

Upon hearing the doctor's question, Lin Qing politely answered the doctor.

"No need to thank me, it's my duty. On the contrary, you handled Liu Cuilan's poisoning case exceptionally well. Your professionalism and decisiveness have impressed me greatly."

Upon hearing Lin Qing's answer, the doctor praised her.

"You flatter me. It's nothing. I just did what I was supposed to do."

Hearing the doctor's praise, Lin Qing scratched her head shyly and said...

"No, you handled it very promptly and professionally, buying valuable time for subsequent treatment. Don't be modest, your performance was truly outstanding, and I believe you will definitely become a very excellent medical professional in the future."

"Thank you for your affirmation and encouragement. In fact, you are the truly professional and admirable one. Your experience and medical skills have always been a role model for me to learn from."

"Haha, you're really good with words, but I can tell you genuinely believe it. Keep up the good work and keep it up!"

"I will, thank you."

Hearing the doctor's encouragement, Lin Qing blushed and said shyly.

"Doctor, is there anything Comrade Liu Cuilan needs to be careful about now?"

"The poison has been neutralized, so you can go back and get some rest."

"Okay, thank you, doctor."

After hearing what the doctor said, Zhao Youcai and Liu Cuilan quickly responded.

"Well, thank you for disturbing the doctor. We'll head back now."

Seeing that the matter was resolved, Lin Qing bid farewell to the doctor.

As soon as Lin Qing and Zhao Youcai led Liu Cuilan out of the doctor's office, the captain and the others surrounded them.

"Young Lin, how is Comrade Liu Cuilan?" the brigade leader asked anxiously. Several people in their village had died from snakebites. The brigade leader was so worried that he didn't even notice Liu Cuilan following behind.

"Yes! How is Cuilan?" the others asked.

"Don't worry, everyone! The poison has been neutralized, and you're all fine now. Just go home and rest for a couple of days."

Lin Qing replied with a smile.

"That's good, that's good, that was terrifying."

"That's right, Dazhuang's mother was bitten to death by a poisonous snake before."

"Yes...yes...Gou Sheng's father was also bitten to death by a poisonous snake."

"Luckily, there was Xiaolin, otherwise Cuilan would have been in real danger this time."

"That's right. With Xiaolin, we're all no longer afraid of poisonous snakes."

"..."

Knowing that Liu Cuilan was alright, the onlookers started chatting excitedly, and Lin Qing couldn't help but feel happy as well as everyone else.

"Captain, now that we've arrived in the county town, and it's still early, why don't we give everyone some time to explore the town?"

Lin Qing raised her hand to check the time; it was only 11 o'clock. So she made a suggestion to the captain.

"Yeah, Captain, since we're already here, let's go take a look around! We can't have come all this way for nothing."

"Yes, the brigade leader wants us to go for a look around! We've never been to the county town before!"

"Yes, I've never been here before either."

"I've never been here before, Captain."

"..."

Upon hearing Lin Qing's suggestion, everyone pleaded with the team leader, saying that since they had come to the county town so often, they all wanted to take a look around.

"Okay, everyone go for a walk! I'll watch the cars for you. Xiao Lin, the educated youth, can come too! We'll meet at 3 pm."

"Okay, Captain, thank you, Captain, thank you, Xiao Lin, the educated youth."

"Thank you, Captain. Thank you, Xiao Lin, the educated youth."

"..."

"Don't get lost, everyone!"

Seeing everyone happily disperse, the captain gave instructions with concern.

"Don't worry, Captain, we won't get lost."

"Yes, Captain, you can rest assured!"

"Qingqing, where are you going?"

After everyone left, Lu Xianghong looked at Lin Qing and asked.

“It’s noon now, and I’d like to go to the state-run restaurant for lunch. Sister Xiang Hong, let’s go together.”

Lin Qing hadn't eaten at the state-run restaurants during her last visit to the county town because she found them too crowded. This time, however, she had plenty of time and was determined to have a proper meal there.

"Let's go to a state-run restaurant..."

Lu Xianghong hesitated. After deducting the money for building the house, she didn't have much money left.

"Let's go, Sister Xiang Hong. I'll treat you to a meal as a way of thanking you for taking care of me these past few days."

Lin Qing knew that Lu Xianghong didn't have much money left, so she advised him.

"No, I haven't taken care of you in any way, how can I let you treat me to a meal?"

Lu Xianghong firmly shook her head and refused.

"Stop arguing. Cuilan and I should be treating you to dinner. Come on, it's our treat today. The brigade leader should come too."

"That's what Zhao Youcai, who hasn't left yet, said."

"Alright, then let Youcai pay for it today." The brigade leader said cheerfully. He knew that the person Zhao Youcai most wanted to invite was probably the educated youth Xiaolin, and he was just benefiting from it.

So the group headed towards the state-run restaurant.

Approaching the state-run restaurant, a unique atmosphere immediately greets you. A red sign hangs high above the entrance; though the characters are somewhat faded, they remain striking. It reads "State-run Restaurant" in large characters. Above these characters is a large red five-pointed star. Further down, to the left is written "Self-reliance," and to the right, "Hard Work and Struggle."

Stepping inside, the lighting was somewhat dim, with a few old-fashioned light bulbs illuminating the room. The wooden tables and chairs were arranged neatly, and each table had customers waiting for their meals.

The restaurant walls were covered with posters and slogans, full of the characteristics of that era.

At the counter, a server in a white uniform and white hat was busy taking notes on the menu. The menu was hanging on the wall, and the selection was not extensive, including rice, steamed buns, noodles, dumplings, as well as braised pork, sweet and sour pork, braised chicken with mushrooms and three delicacies, stir-fried pork slices, braised pork with vermicelli, and pickled cabbage with pork belly, among other dishes.

The air was filled with the aroma of food and a faint smell of cooking oil. Customers ate quietly or chatted in hushed tones, creating a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.

Lin Qing and the others arrived at a reasonable time, and there were still empty seats in the room, so they found an empty table and sat down.

"Please have a seat, I'll go order."

Seeing that everyone had sat down, Zhao Youcai stood up and said.

"Okay, go ahead."

The captain continued.

Zhao Youcai went to the counter, looked at the menu, and ordered five servings of rice, five steamed buns, a sweet and sour pork dish, a stir-fried eggplant, potato, and green pepper dish, a chicken stew with mushrooms, and a braised pork slice dish.

The head chef of the state-run restaurant was a national level-three chef. He cooked quickly and well, and soon the dishes they ordered were served.
