Xiao Yichen looked in the direction of the sound and saw his sister-in-law, Zhang Hehua.
He stood by the wall, gritting his teeth.
Her face was contorted with anger: "You always think of the second son, the second son! Why don't you give it to the eldest son? How can there be such a biased mother-in-law like you? I'm going to fight you, you biased old woman!"
As he spoke, he reached up to the wall with both hands, ready to climb over.
Xiao Yichen frowned, his expression quite unpleasant.
I wanted to go up and say a few words.
Before she could even open her mouth, Aunt Xiao started cursing: "Get the hell out of here! So what if I'm biased? Isn't it my duty to be biased?"
My second brother always thinks of me and helps me with everything. What have you and my eldest brother done for me?
“I’m raising the child here. When we separated the family, we agreed that I would give him/her something every month, but you haven’t given him/her anything.”
"Even if I weren't your mother-in-law, you should still be filial to me. You don't give me what I'm entitled to, and you accuse me of being biased. Do you want my husband and me to starve, or do you want the children to starve!"
As she spoke, Aunt Xiao suddenly covered her mouth and began to sob.
The four eggs stood to one side, watching helplessly.
Especially Tie Dan, the bowl in his hand felt like it was burning his hand.
He was trembling, and his face showed great panic.
Even as a young child, he knew that his aunt was angry because of this bowl of wontons, and that's why his milk was crying!
A dark cloud gathered in Xiao Yichen's eyes.
He opened his mouth and called out, "Big brother, are you home? Come out for a second, I need to talk to you!"
There was no movement from the main house.
It was the second wife's side that came over.
Xiao Yiyun and Luo Xiaoyu had just finished eating and were resting.
The work was heavy today, so the two of them rested on the kang for a while. Even so, Luo Xiaoyu was not idle. She was using the pencil stub that Tiedan had used to draw shoe patterns.
Tiedan is too mischievous, wears out shoes quickly, and grows taller too. Shoes made in the spring are too small to wear in the fall.
Even if it's still wearable, I'd have to throw it away. The area where my big toe rests has been patched up several times, and the bumps on the inside of my foot have also been patched up again and again.
This time, Luo Xiaoyu thought that since these shoes were really unwearable, she would make another pair for her so that she would have something to change into.
Xiao Yiyun was also busy. He was sitting by the window, using the last rays of daylight to work on a basket.
It's not a particularly complicated design, nor is it particularly exquisite; it's just about being functional and durable.
When the third child arrived, the couple heard it. They were just about to get out of bed when they heard several children shouting that they had candy.
The couple exchanged a glance and then went back to their seats.
Every time the third brother comes, he brings something with him. If the couple happens to run into him, he will share some with them.
There wasn't much food; it was just enough to get a taste.
But I can't stop them from giving it to me every time!
After it happened several times, the two of them felt embarrassed.
They usually take advantage of others enough. Sometimes when Luo Xiaoyu delivers some melons and vegetables from the third brother's field to the third brother's family, the third brother's family will pack them up and take them back.
Whether it's food or other necessities, I'll just put whatever I have in it.
Some of the scraps of cloth used to make shoes for Tiedan were given to him by the third brother's family.
Don't underestimate them; they're all good stuff. You can use them to make shoes, quilt insoles, and mend clothes.
Luo Xiaoyu even used a larger piece of cloth to sew together a small bed sheet for Tiedan, specifically to cover his belly, which made Tiedan extremely happy.
Originally, the third brother's family was going to give her a whole piece of cloth, but Luo Xiaoyu didn't want it. It was a whole piece of corduroy, a really nice thing!
Three feet, that's three yuan and eighty cents, not even counting the cloth coupons.
How could she possibly take such a big advantage of someone?
She asked for this scrap of cloth herself; the third brother's family was initially too embarrassed to give it to her, saying it was leftovers from Zhou Aihui, a former educated youth, who came to make clothes.
Later, seeing that Luo Xiaoyu genuinely wanted it, the third brother's family gave it to her.
Hearing that their third son had bought candy again, the couple sat back down.
Otherwise, if the couple went out, the third brother would definitely give them each a piece of paper.
How can someone so old still take food out of a child's mouth?
Those are just for the kids to sweeten their mouths.
The two continued working inside the house, and since it was getting dark, they lit a kerosene lamp.
There's only a little bit left; the couple are both very hardworking.
The couple wouldn't feel at ease until they finished today's work.
Don't sleep tonight.
While I was busy, I heard the third child being scolded by his mother-in-law. While I was busy, I heard the third child being beaten.
Luo Xiaoyu was stunned by this development—no, she was completely dumbfounded!
She asked her husband, "What's wrong with Mom? She seems so irritable today."
After finishing the final touches, Xiao Yiyun took a machete and chopped off the excess willow branches.
I looked the basket over and over, and tidied it up if I saw anything that didn't fit.
Feeling that it was about time, she finally spoke up: "You just realized that Mom has a bad temper? She's been having a bad temper for days, with blisters all over her mouth, making it difficult for her to eat. But it's almost better now?"
Luo Xiaoyu looked completely bewildered: "When did this happen? How come I didn't know about it?"
Xiao Yiyun chuckled, put the basket aside, picked up a broom specifically for sweeping the kang (a heated brick bed), and swept away all the debris he had made.
Xiao Yiyun made this broom himself.
While working, he said, "How come you don't know? You should ask yourself that."
Every night when you go to bed, you fall asleep as soon as you lie down on the kang (heated brick bed). When our son talks to you, you just grunt or hum in response.
"Our son doesn't even bother telling you anymore. Now, he tells me everything, and he says he's on my side. You've been separated from him by us!"
Luo Xiaoyu stopped what she was doing and got anxious: "What the hell? How did I get separated? Why didn't you tell me? Didn't our son say that I was his favorite?"
